A wellness examination includes a complete physical examination and discussion about your pet’s daily habits and nutrition. Depending on your pet’s age, these visits may be recommended annually or more frequently. Lab work such as blood tests, urinalysis, and fecal tests are often recommended to screen for underlying disease that may not be detectable by a physical exam and discussion alone. Blood pressure assessment and radiographs of your pet’s chest, abdomen, or joints may also be suggested. Prepare for your pet’s wellness examination by knowing what food they eat and how much, any supplements or medications they are taking and if anyone in your household has noticed changes or concerns. Financial FOCUS

How should you respond to a bear market?

So far, 2022 has not been a good year for investors. In fact, we’re moving into bear market territory. What should you know about bear markets? And how should you respond?

To begin with, a bear market occurs when a stock market index, such as the S&P 500, falls at least 20% from its most recent high point. You might think this type of drop is rare, but that’s not actually the case. Historically, bear markets have occurred every few years and are a normal feature of the investment landscape. We experienced a bear market fairly recently, from mid-February 2020 through late March of that same year.

What causes bear markets? Each one is different, but the current one is largely the result of several factors, including high inflation, rising interest rates, the war in Ukraine and global supply chain problems.

When will the financial markets again start moving in a positive direction? No one can say for sure, but in any case, it’s not really a good idea to make investment decisions based on what may happen next in the financial markets. Instead, consider these moves:

• Be patient. It can be challenging to look at your investment statements during these days. But you’ll help yourself by taking a long-term view. Consider this: From March 2009 until the end of 2021, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained more than 460%. So, if you’ve been investing for a while, compare where you are now to where you were 10 or 12 years ago.

You’ve probably made pretty good progress over this time –and 10 years from now, the current downturn may not look like such a big event, either.

• Review your risk tolerance. If you’re having a hard time coping with investment losses – even if they’re just “paper losses” for now – you may want to review your tolerance for risk and see if it’s still the same as it was when you began investing. Even without a bear market, people’s risk tolerance can change, especially as they approach retirement.

• Review your goals. A bear market is not meaningless, but by itself, it shouldn’t cause you to change your long-term goals. And if your goals haven’t changed, neither should your investment strategy.

• Look for buying opportunities. During a down market, you can find quality investments at attractive prices. So, you could take this opportunity to fill gaps in your portfolio or add shares of investments that you already own and that you believe have good prospects for growth.

• Get some help. When trying to navigate a lengthy market downturn, it can be useful to get some support and guidance. Consider this: Among investors who work with a

financial advisor, 84% said that doing so gave them a greater sense of comfort about their finances during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a survey conducted in 2020 by Age Wave and Edward Jones. And getting professional help may provide the same type of reassurance during the current market turmoil.

A bear market is never enjoyable. But taking the long view and making moves appropriate for your needs can help you get through this period and look ahead to better days.

NATIONAL Rotisserie Chicken Day

The National Rotisserie Chicken Day is observed annually on June 2nd. The Rotisserie Chicken has its own golden color skin which makes our mouths water! isn’t it? The Rotisserie Chicken is made to continuously roast over the heat. The spin makes the chicken cook evenly all the way through and led to the Rotisserie style chicken. People consume fried chicken and baked chicken every day but this Rotisserie Chicken is a differently delicious treat. The Rotisserie Chicken is often stuffed with a blend of seasonings to enhance its flavor. Also, the leftovers are used in many ways, pairing it with salads, sandwiches, and casseroles. The National Rotisserie Chicken Day is celebrated all over the world and its popularity is increasing constantly as its health benefits are now more widely known.

The history of the National Rotisserie Chicken Day dates back to the 1930's as they have been available in the supermarkets and stores since then. Even though there was a huge drop in grocery shopping by the people after World War II, due to the increase in restaurants, the Rotisserie chicken has not waned out from the people. To point out the popularity of Rotisserie Chicken, 600 million of Rotisserie Chicken was sold in the US alone, with 76 million of them sold in Costco outlets alone!

The Rotisserie cooking practices go back to hundreds of years with paintings explaining its recipes being cooked in large batches. No doubt they had to manually turn the Rotisserie by hand. What makes Rotisserie Chicken so special? The steady turning makes the chicken cook evenly with the moist remaining in the chicken, which makes it more delicious as the baste continuously settles in it. Thanks to the invention of motor driven rotisseries that led to the bulk production of Rotisserie Chicken to be readily served whenever we enter a restaurant.

Go out and get yourself a Rotisserie Chicken to celebrate the National Rotisserie Chicken Day. The Rotisserie Chicken comes in a row of flavors like roasted butter garlic, Italian herb, and even some spicier varieties that include crushed red pepper if you wish to have something really hot. If you don’t want to buy a pre-cooked rotisserie chicken, buy your own whole chicken and create your own variety of Rotisserie Chicken with some new flavors and share them with your friends and family.

DIY HONEY CITRUS MASK

This honey and orange-based mask is the ideal quick remedy for brightening dull skin and giving it a lovely glow.

Raw honey helps balance the bacteria on your skin, which makes it a great product to use for acne. Manuka honey has been studied as an anti-acne product and found to be significantly more effective than other popular products. Honey speeds up your skin cells' healing processes.

Oranges are rich in citric acid, which helps in controlling acne. They have exfoliating properties also, which gives you a natural shine and youthful glow. You can apply the orange juice directly also on the skin with cotton pads or ball.

INGREDIENTS

3 tbsps of freshly squeezed orange juice, 1/4th cup of honey.

DIRECTIONS

Step 1: Mix together 3 tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice and 1/4 cup honey.

Step 2: Apply the mixture to your face lightly and leave it on for 15 minutes.

MARSHALL GULCH PICNIC AREA

Route Type: Out & back • Distance: 2.4 miles (round trip) • Elevation: 534 ft • Difficulty: Moderate

It is June already! Unless you are out early in the morning, or late in the evening, hiking can be pretty unbearable. Head up to Mt. Lemmon to get out of the heat.

Getting there: From Tucson, take Grant Road to Tanque Verde Road. Turn left, and continue east on Tanque Verde to Catalina Highway. Turn left. At mile marker 5, you will need to stop as the fee station and pay $8 for a day pass. Continue on Catalina Highway until you reach the town of Summerhaven, at mile marker 25. The trailhead is located at the Marshall Gulch Picnic area, ½ mile past Summerhaven.

What a great place to spend some time with your family. Take a hike, have a picnic and take in the beautiful scenery on top of Mt. Lemmon. Of course don’t forget to take water with you.

Night Sky JUNE

JUNE 14 - FULL MOON, SUPERMOON. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 11:52 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Strawberry Moon because it signaled the time of year to gather ripening fruit. It also coincides with the peak of the strawberry harvesting season. This moon has also been known as the Rose Moon and the Honey Moon. This is also the first of three supermoons for 2022. The Moon will be near its closest approach to the Earth and may look slightly larger and brighter than usual.

JUNE 16 - MERCURY AT GREATEST WESTERN ELONGATION. The planet Mercury reaches greatest western elongation of 23.2 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning

sky. Look for the planet low in the eastern sky just before sunrise.

JUNE 21 - JUNE SOLSTICE. The June solstice occurs at 09:05 UTC. The North Pole of the earth will be tilted toward the Sun, which will have reached its northernmost position in the sky and will be directly over the Tropic of Cancer at 23.44 degrees north latitude. This is the first day of summer (summer solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of winter (winter solstice) in the Southern Hemisphere.

JUNE 29 - NEW MOON. The Moon will be located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 02:53 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.

Sahuarita Food Bank & Community Resource Center: Nourishing the Community

This February, the Sahuarita Food Bank & Community Resource Center (SFB-CRC) moved into its new home, just over a year after breaking ground. The project was completed after years of preparation, fundraising, and community support, and now provides them a crucial new space out of which to serve even more families in need.

The Community Resource Center’s mission is to provide support to strengthen families, health/nutrition programs, and many workshops and training programs to help people learn new job skills and get employment; with the ultimate goal being economic and family well-being. Founded in 2009, the Sahuarita Food Bank served over 10,000 individuals last year, with over 50,000 visits. Food Bank visitors received over 1,300,000 pounds of food.

Thanks to the opening of its new space, the team is able to also provide area families resources for family support, health/nutrition, and workforce development programs. For more information about the classes offered, visit https://www.sahuaritafoodbank.org/ book-online.

Board President Penny Pestle shared: “We have been incredibly fortunate to have the support of so many in the greater Sahuarita and Green Valley area.” She shared how local volunteers and donors continue to be so generous with their time, their contributions, and as continuing sources of food donations.

Over the last year thanks to the support of the community, the Sahuarita Food Bank was also able to work with the team at Rancho Sahuarita on Neighbor-to-Neighbor Sahuarita. As part of the program, each participating household collects one or two non-perishable food items as part of their weekly shopping trip and saves them for regular Saturday collection events. The food bank then picks up the food for distribution to their visitors.

Pestle continued: “The community of Rancho Sahuarita has partnered with us on this important program that has engaged residents in donating non-perishable food on specially-scheduled Saturdays. Lora

who have helped organize this program, along with Kelly Kyper and Sigi Sanchez from Rancho Sahuarita. We are very grateful to them!”

“This commitment to feed those who struggle to have enough to eat makes a real difference. Thank you to all who have participated.” To find out more information about Neighbor-to-Neighbor Sahuarita or how to get involved, residents can reach out to the organizers for more details at 520-207-7730. 

Creating a Better Life and Lasting Memories for All Families

SPECIAL NEEDS PROGRAMMING AT RANCHO SAHUARITA

In addition to offering unique amenities, events and programs to residents, Rancho Sahuarita is dedicated to continuously going above and beyond and to finding new and inventive ways to ensure that all residents are able to create a better life in the community.

For ten years, the Sahuarita Green Valley Family Support Network, now run by residents and community members, Jamie Comeau and Hania Medrano, has provided a support group for local families with kids, teen and adults with special needs. In 2012, the group first started as a Facebook page for parents to connect, after personal experience showed them the lack of many resources in the area. After an initial partnership with the United Way ended, they reached out to the team at Club Rancho Sahuarita sharing what they wanted to do for families in and around the community, and the types of events they wanted to hold. The team at Rancho Sahuarita eagerly agreed to host the groups’ events and support the group’s efforts however possible.

Both Hania and Jamie have children of their own with special needs, and they share that “making this group something amazing was truly heartfelt and meant the world to us because we wanted to make a difference for families like our own!”

The partnership now allows for the occurrence of many special events throughout the year. Events over the years have included an annual Prom for Families of Children with Special Needs, a Holiday Party, an Easter Egg Hunt, an event for Autism Awareness Day (as Club Rancho Sahuarita is illuminated blue) a private Water Park Day at the Splash Park at Club Rancho Sahuarita, a fall Homecoming

Dance and more. These events allow the families to enjoy the spaces and event activities, without the typical crowds and noise that come with them.

Hania and Jamie said that they rely tremendously on the help of the team at Rancho Sahuarita, as well as donations from local residents and groups. Club Rancho Sahuarita provides the group with the spaces needed to host, which vary depending on the event, as well as some financial support. “We cannot say enough just how amazing they have been!”

Venessa McAdams, Lifestyle Director for Rancho Sahuarita also shared that “Part of our team’s dedication to Creating a Better Life is to make sure we find ways to do that for ALL families. Because of these events, we are able to help give those families lasting memories and these positive experiences in a way that works for them. It is truly an honor to be a part of it all.”

Jamie and Hania conclude that “Once upon a time we all felt alone in our journeys and at times even helpless. But with this group, we have made some amazing connections with other families going through the same struggles, not knowing where to begin to find services, doctors, therapists, they need. We read each other’s posts about struggles & triumphs, great days & days we just want to be over, smiles we see for the first time, words spoken that we never thought we’d hear, guiding each other in the right paths for IEP’s, evaluations, medications and more. Even just asking for someone to meet up at McDonald’s to talk and laugh and cry and eat our feelings away.”

“We’ve made lifelong friends who just get it, and our kids have found a place where regardless of their different abilities and diagnosis, they simply belong!”
