Summer Open Rec Program Returns this June

SUMMER Open Rec, made possible by an ongoing partnership with the Sahuarita Unified School District and Rancho Sahuarita, returns this summer, offering the community’s children a fun, engaging and cooling alternative to the summer heat.

This year the no-cost program runs June 5th – July 13th, Mondays – Thursdays from 12:00 – 4:30 p.m. at the Anza Trail School. Children 6 to 13 years of age can come by to enjoy a variety of different activities; all designed to engage children’s creativity and encourage fitness through play.

Throughout the course of the summer, each week has a different planned theme. Past activities available to children have included games, sports, and arts and crafts. Special guests are also invited to provide unique programming and interactive sessions as a break from the typical activities. Past examples have included the portable Planetarium, sessions with team members from the Reid Park Zoo and more.

Kelly Kyper, Clubhouse Director for Rancho Sahuarita shared that “Rancho Sahuarita is excited and thankful to again be able to partner with SUSD so that we may continue to offer this important program to children in our community.”

Participation in Summer Open Rec requires the completion of a pre-registration form. Attendance will be offered on a drop-in basis, and a limit of 80 children per day will be in effect. Children 10 years of age and older may come and go as desired. Children 6 to 9 years of age must be signed in and out.
