Starring:Nick Blood, Emily Wiseman, Paul Kaye, Allan Corduner
About: In the wake of a young Jewish girl’s disappearance, the son of a Hasidic funeral director returns home with his pregnant wife in hopes of reconciling with his father. Little do they know that directly beneath them in the family morgue, an ancient evil with sinister plans for the unborn child lurks inside a mysterious corpse.

Starring:Robert Downey, Sr.
About: From documentarian Chris Smith (American Movie) comes a lovingly irreverent portrait of the life, career, and last days of maverick filmmaker Robert Downey Sr., whose rebellious spirit infused decades of counterculture movie-making. “Sr.” widens the lens from Downey's art to the life with which it was deeply intertwined, including an intimate examination of his relationship with son Robert Downey, Jr. Shot over the course of three years, the film truly honors Senior's nonlinear, outlaw-like approach, including capturing his decision to embark on his own concurrent and final film project. Smith’s portrait of a family and an artist is a meditation on life that’s as surreal as it is sentimental, a celebration of making art with no rules that tosses out its own rulebook along the way.

Starring: David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Beverly D’Angelo
About: When a team of criminals breaks into a wealthy family’s mansion on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour) is on the grounds. And he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

TO achieve your financial security, and that of your family, you will need to create a comprehensive strategy. But for this strategy to succeed, you'll need to guard it from various challenges – and that means you'll need to build in different layers of protection.
What are these challenges – and what types of protection can be used to defend against them? Consider the following:
• Challenge #1: Protecting your ability to reach your goals – To achieve your long-term goals, such as a comfortable retirement, you'll need to build adequate financial resources. And that means you'll need to create an investment portfolio that's suitable for your objectives, risk tolerance and time horizon. And you'll need to keep your long-term goals in mind when adjusting your portfolio during times of volatility.
• Challenge #2: Protecting your family's future if you're not around – Hopefully, you will live a long life and always be around to support your family. But the future is not ours to see – and if something were to happen to you, how would your family cope? Their chances could be much better if you have adequate life insurance. Proper coverage could help pay off your mortgage, pay for your children's higher education and allow your family to continue its lifestyle.
• Challenge #3: Protecting your income should you become temporarily disabled – If you were to become ill or temporarily disabled and could not work for a while, the disruption in your income could jeopardize your family's living situation, or, at the least, lead to an inability to pay bills in a timely fashion. To protect against
this threat, you may want to consider adding disability insurance. Your employer may offer a short-term disability policy as an employee benefit, but it may be insufficient, either in duration or in amount of coverage, so you might want to look at a private policy.
• Challenge #4: Protecting your long-term investments from short-term needs – Life is full of unexpected expenses – a major car repair, a new furnace, a large bill from the dentist, and so on. If you did not have the money available to deal with these costs, you might be forced to dip into your long-term investments, such as your IRA or 401(k). Taking money from these accounts earlier than you intended could incur taxes and penalties, and, even more importantly, could reduce the amount of money you have available for retirement. To help protect these investments from short-term needs for cash, try to build an emergency fund containing three to six months' worth of living expenses, with the money kept in cash or a liquid account.
• Challenge #5: Protecting your financial independence – You would probably do all you could to avoid ever becoming a burden to your grown children – which is why it's so important to maintain your financial independence throughout your life. One potential threat to this independence is the need for some type of long-term care, such as an extended nursing home stay, which can be extremely expensive. A financial professional can suggest
protection strategies to help you prepared for these types of costs.
It can be challenging to keep your financial strategy intact – so do whatever it takes to protect it.

Hiking in the Arizona desert is always beautiful. Lucky for us this time of year, hiking is everso enjoyable. It is not hot and it is not cold. Our weather is ideal for outdoor activities. The Catalina Canyon Loop Trail may be something you would like to try. This hike is a fun well defined trail. You will see an assortment of cacti and desert shrubs, but most of all the views of the rugged mountain ridges will be amazing. As the hike continues, you will drop into a wash bed that you will cross four times. You may be lucky enough to see some water flow, however use caution when crossing. Even though the weather is cooler that some of our desert creatures sleep during this time there is always a chance you may cross paths. Keep an eye out. As always, hike with plenty of water and a snack if needed.
If you were headed North on Oracle rd (HWY 77) a couple miles past 1st ave. but before you get to Tangerine Rd. make a right into Catalina State Park. You should see a sign for the park. Head east until you come to the Ranger Station, there is a $7.00 daily fee. Continue east until you see the parking lot, and a few feet south of the parking lot is the trailhead.
• December 8 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 04:09 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Cold Moon because this is the time of year when the cold winter air settles in and the nights become long and dark. This moon has also been known as the Long Nights Moon and the Moon Before Yule.
• December 8 - Mars at Opposition. The red planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Mars. A medium-sized telescope will allow you to see some of the dark details on the planet's orange surface.
• December 13, 14 - Geminids Meteor Shower. The Geminids are the king of the meteor showers. It is considered by many to be the best shower in the heavens, producing up to 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by debris left behind by an asteroid known as 3200 Phaethon, which was discovered in 1982. The shower runs annually from December 7-17. It peaks this year on the night of the 13th and morning of the 14th. The waning gibbous moon will block many of the fainter meteors this year. But the Geminids are so numerous and bright that this should still be a good show. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from
the constellation Gemini, but can appear anywhere in the sky.
• December 21 - December Solstice. The December solstice occurs at 21:40 UTC. The South Pole of the earth will be tilted toward the Sun, which will have reached its southernmost position in the sky and will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn at 23.44 degrees south latitude. This is the first day of winter (winter solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and the first day of summer (summer solstice) in the Southern Hemisphere.
• December 21 - Mercury at Greatest Eastern Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest eastern elongation of 20.1 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the evening sky. Look for the planet low in the western sky just after sunset.
• December 21, 22 - Ursids Meteor Shower. The Ursids is a minor meteor shower producing about 5-10 meteors per hour. It is produced by dust grains left behind by comet Tuttle, which was first discovered in 1790. The shower runs annually from December 17-25. It peaks this year on the night of the 21st and morning of the 22nd. This year, the nearly new moon will leave dark skies for what should be a really good show. Best viewing will be just after midnight from a dark location far away from city lights. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Ursa Minor, but can appear anywhere in the sky.

3 large leeks (3 cups, chopped)
2 tablespoons butter
4 cups chicken broth
2 pounds potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled, diced into ½ inch pieces
1 teaspoon sea salt, less or more to taste
Pinch dried Marjoram
1-2 sprigs fresh thyme, or ½ teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley Sprinkle of Tabasco sauce or other red chile sauce
White or Black pepper to taste
Cut off the roots of the leeks. Cut the leeks lengthwise, fan them open under running water to dislodge any dirt or mud hiding inside. Cut off the tough dark green tops and discard (either compost or freeze for making stock).
Slice the white and light green parts of the leeks crosswise into 1/4inch thick slices. Place the slices in a bowl of cold water and agitate them with your hands to dislodge any remaining dirt. Then scoop out the leeks with a sieve or slotted spoon.
Melt butter on medium heat in a 3 to 4 quart thick-bottomed pot. Add the chopped leeks, stir to coat with the butter.
Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low, cook for 10 minutes until the leeks are softened. Check to make sure the leeks are not browning. Add the broth, diced potatoes, bay leaf, marjoram, thyme, and a teaspoon of salt to the pot.
Increase the heat to high to bring to a simmer, then lower the heat to maintain a low simmer, and cook for 20 minutes, until the potatoes are cooked through.
Remove and discard the bay leaf and thyme sprig. Use an immersion blender or standing blender to blend about half of the soup if you want a chunky soup, or all of it if you would like your soup to be more smooth.
Add the parsley, and cook a few minutes more. Add a few dashes of Tabasco to taste.
Add freshly ground pepper and more salt to taste.
½ cup unsalted butter, room temperature
Zest from 1 orange 1 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
1 egg, room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon kosher salt
2 cups fresh cranberries ½ cup buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Cream butter with orange zest and 1 cup of the sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla and beat until combined. Meanwhile, toss the cranberries with 2 tablespoons of flour, then whisk together the remaining flour, baking powder and salt.
Add the flour mixture to the batter a little at a time, alternating with the buttermilk. Fold in the cranberries.
Grease a 9-inch square baking pan (or something similar) with butter or coat with non-stick spray. Spread batter into pan. Sprinkle batter with remaining tablespoon of sugar. Bake for 35 minutes, then check for doneness by touching the top gently or by inserting a toothpick. If necessary, return the pan to the oven, check every five minutes or so — it took my cake a little bit over 45 minutes to cook. (Note: Baking for as long as 50 minutes might be necessary, especially if you made the batter in advance.) Let cool for at least 15 minutes before serving.v
Pomegranate helps to combat breakouts, skin infections and reduce scarring.
It is a rich source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. Vitamin C is known for its ability to treat breakouts, hydrate the skin and lighten the appearances of marks and scars. Vitamin C also helps to boost our complexion naturally. A pomegranate face mask is highly beneficial to fight off premature skin aging. Pomegranates also contain other antioxidants such as anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. These antioxidants help fight the free radicals, which are the major culprit behind aging. Pomegranates can boost our skin cell regeneration process. It further helps with wound healing and tissue repair. Another benefit our skin can get from pomegranates is that it helps boost collagen production that maintains our skin elasticity and also makes our skin look plump. This particular face mask will help heal dry skin because it also contains punicic acid and omega 5 fatty acid. Punicic acid is also known as pomegranate seed oil, which is amazing for the skin. Pomegranates also contain sun protective compounds that can help protect the skin against free radical damage.
1 tablespoon pomegranate paste (blend some pomegranate seeds to get the paste) ½ teaspoon lemon juice
Mix the paste and lemon juice together and apply to your face and neck. Keep it on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and enjoy your healthy skin.
