Glassworks The Glassworks, which is composed of four working studios created and supported by the Dale Chihuly Foundation. Its artists in residency program attracts glass makers from around the world, who direct and teach groups of apprentice art glass making during their two-year grant. Each of the four artists have twelve apprentices, whose two-year internship creates glassworks which are the Glassworks gallery temporary exhibition. Both the artists in residence and the apprentices will live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Each of the four glass studios include a workplace consisting of material supplies and storage, hot-shop furnace area with its seating for the public, glass finishing area, packing and raw material storage area, and both interior and private exterior gallery for the work completed by the artist in residence and their apprentices.

Safe streets for kids Jersey City has been affronting a high rate of deficiencies in safety and health, having a poor quality and length of life. Many factors shape its opportunity to be healthy, between those factors we can mention health behaviors, social and economic factors and physical environment. Data show a persistent pattern in barriers to opportunity for people with lower incomes. Children in poverty is a measure of both current and future opportunities for the wellness of the community. 34.8% of children in Greenville, West Bergen and Bergen-Lafayette were living in poverty which is higher than the Hudson County percentage at (22.4%) and more than double New Jersey’s percentage at (15.4%). Kids are affronting barriers to physical activities including affordability, traffic safety, access to high-quality facilities, transportation, neighborhood inequities, program availability, lack of information, and low community engagement.

WEST SIDE AVE

In Jersey City, there is a high number of traffic accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians. Unfortunately, various of accidents occur when students are likely to walk to or from school. We want to improve student health and reduce traffic congestion within school zones with an infrastructure that will help foster safe and active options for traveling to and from schools.

This is the proposal of West Side Avenue. Where it is a busy intersection, located in Jersey City, New Jersey. West Side Avenue leads to Elementary School 24. The changes that were proposed is to have more greenery and more bike lanes. That way it is more safer for pedestrains and students going to school. We also proposed to limit parking around the area.

In this section, you can see the width of sidewalk is too wide. Also, there are no bike lanes. Cyclists have to ride their bikes on other vehicles lanes which is unsafe overall. There’s also not a lot of public seating in the area.

In this section, you can see the width of sidewalk are made smaller with greenery to separate pedestrain accessibility and vehicles. Also, there are bike lanes. We also limited the parking spaces as well and add more public seating for pedestrains.
