About this production

Synopsis: As a young cobbler struggles to keep his business open and his marraige afloat in the currents of a fast changing city, he is haunted by the vision of a pair of red shoes through his shop window.

‘The Cobbler’s Shop’ is an original theatre play produced by the firstyear students of the BA in Performing Arts at MCAST’s Institute for the Creative Arts (ICA).

For this production, students used the knowledge and skills acquired in different areas of study. In the TextBased Production unit the students undertook different artistic and management roles, developing their output all the way from the ideation to the presentation stage. Acting students learned how to analyze and interpret a script in order to bring characters to life on stage. In the Media for Performing Arts unit, under the guidance of Kenneth Scicluna, the students planned and shot the window scenes, that formed an integral part of the plot. Furthermore, the students, with the help of second-year peers, benefitted from the guidance of Nadia Haber and Ray Ellul from the Product Design Department, to construct the set for this play.

Front-of-house roles are covered by Advanced Diploma students following the Management for Performing Arts unit with Rochelle Gatt, while Creative Media students Ona Rota and Dylan Charlie Thorley covered video and photographic documentation.

This makes the production a perfect example of the multidisciplinary and collaborative values that our students are exposed to at ICA.
