A Note from our SWD Captain
from March 2023 Tom Tom
by Sahalee
Based on our Fall 2022 survey, 90% of respondents said they’d like more golf clinics and we’re on it! After all, who doesn’t want to play better, armed with confidence, and enjoy lower scores? We all do! Our Pro Shop is providing a series of 4 hour-long clinics for SWD members. Space will be limited since Bryan’s goal is to have 5 ladies per pro for each group. Watch for an email for your schedule preferences.
Sessions will be:
Getting out of Bunkers
· Reading Greens
· Course Management
· Determining When to Use Fairway Woods, Hybrids or Irons
“Winter Golf” is almost over, as our regular season starts in April It’s been very popular this year with 10-12 ladies of all abilities playing a casual game and having fun together on Saturday mornings It’s an easy way to meet some new ladies and enjoy the camaraderie of golf; there are no competitions. When you want to join in the fun or have questions how this works, contact Sue Ursino at sursino@comcast.net.
The monthly seminars for SWD members are underway and well attended with an average of 20 participating. These sessions are valuable for everyone, regardless of golf capabilities. The feedback from attendees has been very positive and quite a boost for Sue Ursino, our leader.Make these learning opportunities a priority and consider staying for lunch afterwards with your friends.
The remaining sessions are:
April 1, 9-11: Pace of Play Tips & “Ready Golf”, presented by Michelle Hood & Pro Laura Kraft
May 6, 9-11: The Mental Side of Golf, Pro Shop
June 3, 9-11: Match Play Strategies, presented by Sue Ursino
One of the goals for this year is to increase our Major Tournament participation Last year we only had between 14 - 29% of our members playing in these events Given all the time, effort and planning of our organizers and pro shop, let’s step it up for everyone and have fun!
The Captain’s Cup is our first tournament and has such a flexible schedule, most ladies can fit it in between work, kiddos and vacations It’s a 3-day Match Play event starting on or after April 26 and you schedule your own matches, set your own date, set your own time, following the deadlines which span our season If you win your match, you move on to the next one You will play a minimum of 1 match and a maximum of 3 In 2022 we had 29 members play the Captain’s Cup – let’s DOUBLE that! Jeannie Link is chairman, has put a lot of effort into organizing this, so let’s support her and SWD! (Watch for more details via email )
All new members and any existing SWD member who wants help “fitting in” will be offered a Golf Buddy to guide, give an understanding of our competitions, casual golf and introduce her around. We need YOU to be a Golf Buddy if you are friendly, enjoy meeting ladies, “know the ropes” and want to make SWD better and more inclusive. Please contact Sue Ursino, sursino@comcast.net or 425-392-2056.
The first official SWD golf event springs us into our “Season Opener” mixer on Tuesday, April 25th. We’ll have a 9 AM shotgun start, play a 9-hole Shamble and enjoy lunch afterwards, meeting newcomers and enjoying the ladies we already know. I think we’re all ready to put winter behind us and get back in the swing of things!
