A Note from our SWD Captain

The Women’s Division is off to a terrific start! With 6 weeks of competitions and 2 big events completed, we’re setting participation records. Emerging from Covid, it’s clear we ladies are eager to reunite with friends, take group and private lessons, clinics, seminars, practice, play and enjoy our group of 108 ladies. I’ve noticed ladies introducing themselves to new members, unfamiliar faces or “I know her face, but can’t remember her name”. Having food service available on both Tuesdays and Fridays has elevated our club experience.

Our match play Captain’s Cup is well underway, as one of our easiest and most flexible tournaments which spans our 5-month golf season. We have set a record in recent years with 50% of our members participating and that’s worth celebrating!

The Pro Shop has been a terrific, enthusiastic team who offered SWD members 4 complimentary clinics to improve our skills and drills to practice, bolstering our confidence on the course. With practice, we might even lower our handicaps! The clinics were so popular, all 15 spots were filled within 2 hours.I have a hunch they’ll be in popular demand for next year.

Laura Kraft and Colin Campbell continue to be among our biggest supporters who have enough enthusiasm to match our ladies! We enjoy their new, innovative ideas and competitions on a weekly basis as well as our major events. Kudos to Sally Wallace to determines the winners of our Tuesday & Friday/Saturday games.

Right around the corner is “Spooky Spring Field Day” on June 9th and we’re already breaking the participant record! Last year we had 60 players and 39 in the famed Horserace. Registration isn’t closed yet and we have 62 players and 55 in the Horserace. This will be an event to celebrate! This year we’re continuing our traditional games since there are SO many ways to win:you could have a high score but still win “putts”. Following 18 holes, we’ll top it off with the Horserace, a highlight for all who play as well as the spectators and betters The chefs are sure to deliver a delicious dinner

Following Field Day is the Presidents Cup on June 27th, a one-day medal play net competition. Players are placed into flights by handicap and net prizes are awarded in each division. The low net score is the Presidents Cup Champion. We already have 14 signed up and registration just recently opened. This is where handicaps prove to be the “great equalizer” so everyone truly has a chance to win.

Be bold and sign up for every event which fits into your schedule: remember that 75% of SWD members have a handicap of 20 or more. You DO fit in and you ARE good enough to play with us! If you’re unsure of the rules, etc. there is plenty of help from the pro shop and SWD members, so don’t be shy – just sign up and begin making friends!
