UN My World Survey

Summary Results from India MY World is a global survey for citizens led by the United Nations and partners. It aims to capture people's voices, priorities and views, so that global leaders can be informed as they begin the process of defining the new development agenda for the world. The survey asks individuals to select six out of sixteen possible issues they think would make the most difference to their lives. The sixteen issues have been built-up from the priorities expressed by poor people in existing research and polling exercises, and they cover the existing Millennium Development Goals, plus issues of sustainability, security, governance and transparency. By May 2013, survey had accessed the opinion of nearly 530,000 participants in 194 countries, through various partner organizations, Oxfam India being one of them.

Oxfam India's role in UN My World Survey - India Oxfam India’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team was responsible for analyzing the responses, and developing the India and State report of the survey. This was a significant task for Oxfam India since the issues covered in the survey are congruent with those Oxfam India (OIN) works with. Therefore, along with making the voice of India matter in the global decision-making, this survey helped OIN get first-hand knowledge about the priorities of India citizens and how these priorities differ in terms of age, gender, educational level, and geographical regions.
