SAG-AFTRA Conservatory on Self-Taping Jim Dougherty will present his self-taping workshop on Feb. 26. This workshop will be a refresher for those who attended the last one with additional new material - and it's a great opportunity for those just learning to self-tape.

You will be empowered to make your setup great!

Topics include:  Lighting on a budget.  Backgrounds and clothing to make you stand out.  Utilizing your existing equipment.  Getting great sound and capturing great video.  Using editing software.  Compressing video for EcoCast delivery.  Utilizing file transfer services.  Travel setups in a carry-on.  Utilizing your cell phone.

Dougherty has taught this workshop in multiple markets, including Chicago and Atlanta.

He is an actor and editor with four IT certifications. He has successfully booked multiple roles via self-tape, including work on Chicago PD, The Inspectors, Killing Reagan and House of Cards.

When: 6 - 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26

Park at 10 East Ontario. Enter on the north side of Ontario between Wabash and State, and then take a ticket. When you sign in, you may purchase a four-hour ticket for $13 cash, $14 Visa, MasterCard or American Express payment. You will need both tickets to exit the parking structure.

Please note that we will also have a follow-up to this event sometime in March, where participating members will put their new-found skills to the test by sharing a self-tape for peer critique. Stay tuned for details.

This meeting is only open to paid-up SAG-AFTRA members in good standing.

Unfortunately, no guests allowed. Parents/guardians of younger performers under 18 years old are welcome. SAG-AFTRA members, please bring your membership card or digital card on the app (paid through April 30, 2018) for admittance.

Actor Tax Tidbit Always peruse your paychecks and residual checks to make sure that taxes are taken out for Illinois if you live and worked there. On occasion, an error can be made and California taxes are taken out instead. If that happens, you will need to contact the employer of record to make the correction.

Member Discount to Academy Awards Reception The Davis Theater and Carbon Arc Bar & Board are hosting a reception and live viewing of the 90th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 4 at 5:30 p.m.

The event is open to the public, but a special offer has been extended to SAG-AFTRA members. Tickets are $25 per person, or two for $40. The price of the ticket will include hors d'oeuvres and one glass of Champagne.

Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the KMRC and the Alzheimer's Association.

When: Sunday, March 4, 2018. 5:30 p.m. reception, 7 p.m. free viewing of the Academy Awards at the Theater next door. .

W&W (Wages and Working Conditions) Meeting The SAG-AFTRA Chicago local will be convening a W&W (wages and working conditions) meeting for the upcoming contract negotiations for the National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting.

Shows that have recently been covered by the code in the Chicago area include, The Detroiters, Hot Date, The Untitled Joe Pera Project and Judge Mathis.

If you have worked on any of these productions and are interested in sharing your ideas and coming up with proposals for the national negotiating committee, you are encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 20, at 6 p.m. at 1 E. Erie, Suite 650.
