As everyone is well aware, we are in the throes of a global pandemic where things change rapidly from one day to the next. There's no denying that the Coronavirus outbreak and everything it brings with it has rocked our nation's infrastructure to its foundations. But as the situation unfolds, I've found myself asking the unimaginable: could our reaction to COVID-19 actually give us some positives outcomes for the business world?

How Can You Keep Going?

My point is that this level of business continuity is attainable for anyone looking to take the risk and push for change that will ultimately make your organisation better. The best results I've seen are from those who just keep going, those who don't just drop all projects and programmes altogether and wait for things to turn back around. Doing nothing is a big risk in and of itself.

I understand the temptation to drop tools entirely to preserve budget but isn't it better to not only ensure your teams have a business to come back to, but make it a better business at that? If you simply can't push the button on transformation projects due to budget concerns or a lack of resource - then utilise this time to reflect and strategise instead.

We are all aware that when we get into a post Covid-19 world things will forever be different. Our attitudes, approach and ways of working and engaging will change. More so than ever before the business world will need to think about this change and behave differently. It's for this reason that we see this as an opportunity; an opportunity to think differently and to reprioritise everything.

Agency that issued Safety Audit Report to Mall will face action, Fire Brigade writes to Directorate. said the firefighting system was in working condition. But during firefighting, we found the system non-functional," said a senior officer from the BMC. Form B is a fire audit report submitted by establishments every six months to the fire brigade with the help of governmentauthorized private agencies that conduct such audits. The exercise is mandated in the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act, 2006.

Officials said while Sunrise Hospital got the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire brigade, except the fire alarm and smoke detectors, no firefighting systems like sprinklers, hydrants, hose pipes were operational.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade has initiated action against the agency that issued a fire safety audit report for Dreams Mall in Bhandup West. It has also sent a letter to the Directorate of Maharashtra Fire Services to revoke the license of the agency for submitting a "wrong" audit report.

On March 26th, a fire broke out at Dreams Mall, which led to the death of nine patients at Sunrise Hospital located on its third floor. The fire brigade took more than 12 hours to douse the fire. Officials said while Sunrise Hospital got the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the fire brigade, except the fire alarm and smoke detectors, no firefighting systems like sprinklers, hydrants, hose pipes were operational.

Officials from the fire brigade said when they reached the spot and started firefighting operations, they found that a major part of the firefighting system was not functional.

"The Form B, which is mandatory for the establishment to submit every six months, was submitted in this case. The audit report has 12

At present, an inquiry is on under Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Disaster Management and Fire Brigade) P S Rahangdale. He is also the director of Maharashtra Fire Services Rahangdale refused to comment as the inquiry is still on.

Officials from the BMC said an inquiry report was expected to be completed in a week.

After the fire broke out, it was found that Sunrise Hospital was granted provisional occupational certificate to start Covid-19 special hospital by delinking all illegalities and issues related to Dreams Mall.

Supreme Court Directive to Implement CCTVs in All Police Stations Across India.

Supreme Court through its judgement dated December 02nd, 2020 emphasized the pressing need for all State Police Forces to implement IP based CCTV surveillance system in each police station of the State/UT in order to prevent unlawful activities, ensuring safety of its citizens and also to efficiently deal with the cases involving allegations of torture in custody.

Salient features of Supreme Court Judgement in respect of CCTV surveillance of all Police Stations in the country.

1) CCTV cameras should be installed at each and every Police Station and no part of a Police Station should be left uncovered, it is imperative to ensure that CCTV cameras are installed at following locations: Entry and Exit Points, Main gate of the police station, All lock-ups, All corridors, lobby/the reception area, All verandas/outhouses, Inspector's room, Sub-Inspector's room, Areas outside the lock-up room, Station hall, In front of the police station compound, Outside (not inside) washrooms/toilets, Duty Officer's room, Back part of the police station etc.

2) CCTVs shall also be installed in all the offices where interrogation and holding of accused takes place in the same manner as it would in a police station.

3) CCTV systems that have to be installed must be equipped with night vision and must necessarily consist of audio as well as video footage.

4) In areas where there is either no electricity and/or internet, it shall be the duty of the States/Union Territories to provide the same as expeditiously as possible using any mode of providing electricity, including solar/wind power.

5) The internet systems should support clear image resolutions and audio.

6) CCTV camera footages should be preserved for a maximum possible period up to 18 months but not lesser than 12months.

7) An oversight mechanism should be created whereby an independent committee can study the CCTV camera footages and periodically publish a report of its observations thereon.

- Health Monitoring and reporting of the CCTV systems.

- To review footage stored from CCTVs in the various Police Stations to check for any human rights violation that may have occurred but are not reported.

9) The Commission/Court can immediately summon CCTV camera footage in relation to the complaint of any incident for its safe keeping, which may then be made available to an investigation agency in order to further process the complaint made to it.

10) Posters at the entrance and inside of police station informing about the coverage of premises by CCTV, their privilege to file complaint to given authorities in case of any human rights violations inside the premises.

The Government of Bihar has taken a huge step forward in its efforts to introduce transparency in the functioning of the police forces in the state. The Bihar State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd (BELTRON) has recently completed an ambitious project to bring the police stations of the state under 24x7 CCTV surveillance. More than 10,000 IP based CCTV cameras have been installed at over 900 police stations of Bihar. The project initiated and funded by the Home Department, Government of Bihar aims to fulfill the mandate of the Hon'ble Supreme Court to bring all police stations of the country under constant CCTV surveillance to protect

human rights and prevent the use of torture in detention. The project was awarded to TATA Advanced Systems Ltd, one of India's leading Physical & Cyber Security firms through a competitive bidding process at a cost of Rs 168 crores including operation and maintenance support for 5 years. Smoke Detector Testing

Requirements for testing of smoke detectors vary by country, the common need is for a functional test where smoke, or simulated smoke, is introduced through the vents of the detector to the sensor.

Functional testing is required by all national standards around the world, including BS: 5839, DIN 14675 and NFPA 72. A functional test should be carried out using an appropriate test tool which is designed for purpose and will cause no damage to the detector under test.

If you have standalone smoke detector, test the alarm monthly. Replace the batteries at least once every year. Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years. Press and hold the test button on the smoke detector. It can take a few seconds to begin, but a loud, ear-piercing siren should emanate from the smoke detector while the button is pressed. If the sound is weak or non-existent, replace your batteries. Most of Standalone detectors have either a blinking or a solid light that glows to let you know that the alarm is getting power.

Before starting the testing job for 2wire / 4wire 38

 Prior to testing of Smoke detector see the LED status of the Smoke Detector it should be blinking red.  Check the voltage of the Smoke Detector, it should be + 30 Volts DC. This can be checked at the addressable base of the detector.  Now Smoke Detector is healthy and it is ready for testing.  Clean the Smoke Detector's dust by cotton cloth and blower  Apply the aerosol spray to the Smoke Detector by solo Smoke detecting gun with the help of the Solo A10/A5 aerosol bottle.  Keep applying aerosol spray for 10 seconds.  After 10 seconds LED status of the Smoke detector will change from the steady blinking red to steady red and after that alarm appears and hooter is activated on the fire alarm panel.  To silence the hooter press acknowledge key on the Fire Alarm Panel.  After alarm appears remove Smoke detecting test gun from Smoke Detector.  Note down the alarm tag and descriptions from the HMI or workstation. The alarm details must match with the smoke detector tag number and installed location.  Confirm the smoke detector activation status from the respective graphics page. You have to visually identify the colour change signals of the respective smoke detector on the graphics.  Reset the alarm of the Smoke detector from Fire Alarm Panel.  The LED status will change from steady red to blinking red.  Smoke Detector is now working normally.  Repeat the above procedure for all the remaining smoke detectors.  Normalize the forced interlocks or logics if any.  Close the work permit.

There are different types of heat sensors, which are classified based on different criteria such as the amount of heat withstanding capacity, nature of heat sensing capacity, and so on. Furthermore, the heat sensors are classified into different types that include analog heat sensors and digital heat sensors.

Heat detector can sense the heat (change in heat according to the features of heat detector used). But, a circuit is to be designed for activating an alarm system to indicate fire or heat change and for alerting the security or protection system. Heat detector circuit can be designed using heat sensor.

These heat detectors are mainly classified into two types based on their operation and they are "rate of rise heat detectors" and "fixed temperature heat detectors".

The alarm details must match with the heat detector tag number and installed location.  Confirm the heat detector activation status from the respective graphics page. You have to visually identify the colour change signals of the respective heat detector on the graphics.  Reset the alarm of the Heat detector from the Fire Alarm Panel.  The LED status is changing from steady red to blinking red.  Heat Detector is now working normally.  Repeat the above procedure for all the remaining Heat Detectors.  Normalize the forced interlocks or logics if any.  Close the work permit.

Note: The mentioned voltages, terminals, circuit module names may change as per the vendor or model of the Heat Detector. Available in both 110 / 120 and 220 / 240 volt versions the Solo 423 and 424 are the professionals' choice where cables and leads are acceptable. We did notice the darker side of Covid - 19 so far, however, it aptly taught us the true value of our old roots. Following the traditional practices of burning camphor, having herbal "kadhas", practicing yoga, pranayama and meditation has been our rich heritage, and gladly, today, people have embraced it gracefully. Many people have now moved towards naturopathic and ayurvedic cure.

Eating homemade food is more preferred now; avoiding the junk food like pizzas, calorie flour, pastries, fried and bakery products.

The only maintenance cost is power consumption and the disposable filters and sieve beds that need to be replaced over years of usage, Khurana said.

While oxygen concentrator devices can be used at the convenience of patients under the supervision of doctors or healthcare workers, the standalone cylinder needs to be refilled and needs utmost care and monitoring as there are chances of leakage and can cause fire accidents.

 Preparing Your Staff As this period of uncertainty continues, it will be very important to maintain an open line of communication with staff for several reasons.

It is important to reassure staff that the workplace is ‘COVIDsecure’. Ensure that they understand exactly which measures have been taken – if they are contacted by NHS Test and Trace, passing that information on may remove the need for co-workers to self-isolate. You should reassure staff that contingency plans are in place for various eventualities, including local lockdown, a second wave and/or a further national lockdown.

Be aware of how your employees are travelling to work – those with higher-risk commutes (e.g. getting the tube through central London at rush hour) or with health-related vulnerabilities may need to be given additional flexibility.

If the R rate increases, staff in these categories may need to return to home working or work varied hours to lower the risk posed to them.

The rules on lockdown and quarantine change frequently, and an outbreak can happen in an instant. Therefore, you should ensure you have up-to-date personal contact details for all staff in case you need to contact them in an emergency, e.g. to ask them to stay at home.

It is important to explain to staff what your approach will be if they must self-isolate, particularly where they are unable to work from home, e.g. in terms of their sick pay entitlement.

You should also establish a wellbeing plan to deal with any adverse impact on staff mental health, as reinstatement of lockdown would likely be very difficult for many people.

You should also consider offering an employee flu vaccination programme to help to protect staff health and boost their confidence.

 Contingency Planning Throughout this period, it is advisable to monitor the R rate at a local level and nationally to watch for sharp increases or rates above 1. This will allow you to keep up-to-date and respond quickly to any significant changes.

You should ensure your business continuity plan is up-to-date and addresses the potential impacts of a further lockdown.

It is therefore very important to refer to the ICO’s guidance and be clear on how the GDPR allows you to use and store staff data, and particularly special category data such as health information.

If you are in the hospitality, tourism or leisure sectors or provide close-contact services (such as a hair salon), then you have an additional obligation to retain specified information about staff, customers and visitors for a limited period. Ensure you are equipped to do this in a way which complies with the GDPR.
