DeAr ChAmpionS of the miSSion:

A remarkable chapter in your journey of obedience is about to unfold. As you receive your first appointment, it will be more than just a point on a map or a listing in a directory. It will soon become your home – a place where you will settle down to begin your ministry.

While you will have an office in a building that serves as a hub of activity, your congregation may not always cross your threshold. They will, of course, include your soldiers and those who attend various programs or ministries, but they will also include your neighbors, co-workers, volunteers, and donors. You are called to minister to your entire community, not just those who show up in your building.

Every day, you will encounter someone new. Some may need something you can provide through the resources of The Salvation Army. Others may not recognize their need for a Savior or how He can redeem and reconcile their circumstances. You will see some regularly because they want to be with people who love and care for them. Still, others have no idea that their path in life will soon intersect with one of Christ’s ambassadors, whom He will use to touch their lives in an unexpected but powerful way.

Begin to pray for your people – and don’t stop. Let God cultivate a deep love for them within you, motivating you to stay faithful every day for their sake. Be ready to be used by God as you see opportunities for ministry around every corner.

You are an integral part of God’s plan for your new place of service. Stay focused on His purposes as you continue to champion His mission!

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”

—Ephesians 4:11-13 (NLT)
