Drive gradually up the mesa to the lake just below the wilderness boundary. Great for families.

Local’s favorite. Granny gear climb on Canal Trail to Jeep road then a worth while descent through aspens back to Brush Creek.

One of the hidden gems in the state. Dozens of spots for day use. Make a loop on Rocky Brook Road and come out at Spring Creek Road. Bring the fishing pole.

Seasonally closed for cattle. Great wildflowers and views of Mt. Crested Butte. Drops out on Washington Gulch. A ‘must do’.

Harder to get to be well worth it! Nice day use area, and trails circling the lake. Another great family spot.

A great series of trails that keep you close to town. One spur is even stroller accessible! Bring the camera.

Recently upgraded amenities. An incredible variety of lakes, trails and peaks. Great for car camping.

Lift accessible. Downhill course. Well maintained trails crisscross the ski area.

A 164-mile-long loop drive that encircles the West Elk Mountains, passing numerous geologic features, dense aspen woodlands, and spacious valleys.

8 Trail 401- Difficult

This is the road less traveled. The one that ends, where the wilderness begins.

8 Blue Mesa Dam/Black Canyon - Moderate

The signature trail of the north valley. A long climb from Schofield Pass finally reaches an alpine meadow. Descend through chin-high flowers and a narrow single track back to Gothic Road.

No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls, and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.

Granny gear climb on Canal Trail to Jeep road t Bring the fishing pole.

Voted best mid-sized ski town in Colorado

~Elevation Outdoors Magazine 2013

Nestled at the base of Crested Butte Mountain is a ski area that was started in 1961 by two men from Kansas, Dick Eflin and Fred Rice. The name, “Mt. Crested Butte”, comes from the geologic formation of a volcanic, craggy faced butte that rises up above town to 12,162 feet. The Town of Mt. Crested Butte was founded in 1974 and was originally made up of 11 Chalet Village additions centralized around the ski base area. Today the town includes many new neighborhoods like Prospect, Gold Link, Elk Run, Timberline, Summit, Overlook, Pitchfork, Glacier Lily Estates and Sunlight Ridge.
