thirdplace third place FOURTH YEAR | FALL 2020 when reassessing places of communal gathering to be pandemic compliant, reinforcing health through actively healing architectural interventions is vital. a public restroom project within a proposed park space engages the context of this community-driven neighborhood.

inverting a public restroom to be a place of transparency not only encourages safety and comfort within a traditionally enclosed space, but it also provides a unique opportunity to combat disease by ventilation and encourages social parity in the typically overly-politicized program.

02

VENTILATIVE COMBAT the biggest combattant to viral infection via aerosols is ventilation. this proposal encourages active healing by design with its open corridors and gathering spaces, which are directly informed by airflow, as reinforced by aeronautical simulations conducted on the project.

PENGYUAN VILLAGE, YIFENG COUNTY, JIANGXI PROVINCE, CHINA

publicrestroom public restroom THIRD YEAR | SUMMER 2020 a multinational collaboration design-build project that serves within recent governmental initiatives to revitalize the neglected rural villages of china, where sites prove to be a distinct opportunity for cooperative intervention within a non-western sphere of influence.

the design proposal and subsequent construction aim to engage intentional aesthetics and agendas while utilizing the limited and specific site, materials, and infrastructure available. traditional roof construction is paired with a duo of masses to encourage utility and rest for users.

UNIFIED DUALITY intersecting formal and linear geometries work in perpindicular and parallel to create the parti diagram, which opens the eye to views of the surrounding landscape. the resulting elevation relies heavily on the articulation of material and the subsequent apertures.

NORTH BEND PARK, BOYDTON, VIRGINIA, USA

sauna SECOND YEAR | SUMMER 2019 this two-week study of a highly specialized program within a specific site took place in the context of a larger studio semester focusing on tectonics through modelmaking and succinct, isolated projects.

a conceptual proposal primarily circulates a progression of experience that dictates a sauna program. major conceptual influcences include active monolithc massing in both the plan and section views, an orienting clerestory datum, and diagramming abstraction.

06

TECTONIC MODELING the primary technical skill that was emphasized for this proposal was model making: creating intentional and palpable realizations via material and technique choice. quick-pour concrete, wood, and acryllic combined to make this single-pour model.

kioskplaza kiosk plaza THIRD YEAR | SUMMER 2020 this interdisciplinary design sprint focused on a proposal for a major film studio and their renovated headquarters. the client was seeking a design that acts as a kiosk during lunch hours, and activates the space in a different way for the rest of the day.

vintage film reels proved to be a major inspiration for this project, with circular canopies that centralize the program and the subsequent radiating lines dictating placement of other elements such as circulation and vegetation. materials were chosen with californian heritage in mind, and formal elements reflect west coast modernism.

08

ACTIVE TRANSFORM The focus of design intitiatives was the kiosk, which by requirements of the brief, had to be a dynamic design that activates the space outside of vendor hours. a gear mechanism controls a series of arrayed slats, which raises and lowers the mesh, transforming the struture between a vendor kiosk and a leisure bench.

inclinehousing incline housing FOURTH YEAR | SPRING 2021 an urban proposal encouraging connection through infrastructure, agriculture, and housing. previously the site of a historic incline trolley, this site connects three major neighborhoods via bisecting a sharp grade change, terracing up with greenery and architectural intervention.

reusable resources such as water and timber provide the backbone of the project, which relies on a funicular trolley to provide universal access to a proposal that integrates the most celebratory visions of a future under a federal green new deal.

HYDROLOGY INTEGRATION water drainage becomes an integral question within such a large ecological site. runoff water is harnessed in all three pillars of the proposal: water is drained into the residences from the greenroofs, it powers the funicular through counterbalancing, and it is redirected to irrigate the urban orcharding that populates the project.

communityplanning community planning THIRD YEAR | FALL 2019 a collaboration with a third party student group to create conceptual planning fitting a proposed program of housing, retail, travel, etc. to result in a master site plan and visual aids to convey the atmospheric condition of the proposed solution.

entirely revised partitions, finishes, and lighting were the scope. implementing the company’s brand identity was a continuing design opportunity. contributions include extensive 3D modelling and management, client engagement, and drafting standards.

collaborativeworkspace collaborative workspace THIRD YEAR | FALL 2019 a tech startup seeks relocation to expand in larger offices, and extensive renovations lead to a full-scale reconfiguration of existing conditions to provide ample collaborative conditions for a workspace.

a centralized statement staircase, internal cafe, and external renovations were the major constructive goals contributions include presentation standards, extensive 3D modelling, and design development collaboration.

lobbyrenovation lobby renovation SECOND YEAR | SPRING 2019 realizing a third party’s design visions by working with an internal design team and external consultants to make the initial conceptual design logistically feasible. a full remodel of a brutalist building into a colorful and vibrant place to work.

deckof deck ofcards cards THIRD YEAR | FALL 2019 a personal project for a holiday gift exchange, fully designing a bauhaus- and low-poly geometric-influenced standard 54-card deck of poker playing cards over the course of eight months.

this highly curated project required creating a comprehensive graphic brand as well as marrying traditional standards with modern influences and including personalized homages to the receiver.
