Hello! My name is Sabrina Laramee. This is the part where I tell you a bit about myself and my work. I’m not particularly good at this, but I’ll try my best. First, I love to create a background, or a story, with each project. I think that when you give your projects a persona, they seem to come to life easier. What qualities does it have? What does it look like? Where in the world could it fit in? I ask myself a lot of questions when I start a project. I try to narrow down and nail the project’s persona, but sometimes I end up going a different way than I originally planned. That’s life, I guess. I think each project I’ve done so far has also involved some sort of challenge for me. Whether it was using a different color palette or a new program, I work to involve a few hurdles for myself along the way. It makes it worth it in the end, in my opinion. Second, I prefer to really step outside of the box, making me more independent and different. I like seeing things from an outsider’s standpoint, I always have. I enjoy being outside the box. I don’t give up easily, either. I like to explore different options on whatever I’m working on. I’ll change different things along the way, just to try it out, and either hit ‘undo’ or go with it. I have a pretty good ratio of going with it over hitting ‘undo’. I might fall down a few times, but that doesn’t mean I stay down. I get back up, dust myself off, and keep going. Once I really put my mind to something, I do everything I can to get it done the right way. It might take a bit longer sometimes, but I think that’s understandable. Third, this is where I tell you about what I’m passionate about – career wise. I have experience from all ends of the spectrum, and I haven’t found an area that’s disappointed me. I believe my work shows that. In the end, I’m not sure where God will take me. But for now, I’ll enjoy making the things that I love. -Sabrina Laramee

Mo Ghlas link: moghlas.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a site that customizes a product. tools used: WordPress Elementor - Page Builder Mo Ghlas is a site that customizes whiskey. Mo Ghlas allows the customer to build their own bottle of whiskey online. It began as a project in my freshman year of college, and its purpose was to help prepare for future webbased classes. I started the project in Adobe Illustrator, creating multiple layouts for each page. After using it for various projects during those web-based classes, I brought it to life with the help of WordPress. The original objective of the project was to create a product that can be customized. With this objective in mind, I ran with the idea of customizing a product that nobody thought about customizing. Luckily, the idea blew my professor away and I was allowed to continue with the project. This was the project that encouraged me to think way outside the box. Who would’ve thought to create a site that customizes whiskey? The final site has become something much better than I ever imagined when I started it. Cheers!

Fuggedaboutit objective: In a team, create a set of deliverables for a culinary-based client. Deliverables: Menu Social Media Campaign Digital Advertisement Campaign Postcard tools used: Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator Fuggedaboutit is a restaurant that’s all about New York street food. If you’ve never been to New York, street food is everywhere. There are multiple food carts lining the streets with all different foods to try. On this project, I worked with a team. We each took different parts of the project to work on, then put it all together in the end. For the project, each member of the team created a logo for the client. The client chose their favorite, and we incorporated that design into the rest of the deliverables. When it came time to choose our deliverables to work on, Nolan Badore chose the menu, Justin Gecse chose the Instagram Posts and postcard, and I took charge of the TV advertisements. The final pieces came out the way we intended them to come out – like one person had done everything. Fuggedaboutit was a very exciting project to work on because of my love for New York City.

Land, Air, & Sea objective: Create a collection of 15 still digital art pieces using your own photography. tools used: Adobe Photoshop Digital Glitch Art was new territory for me when I began this project. The objective was to create 15 glitch art photos from one’s own photography with a theme to tie them all together. As I began looking through my photos, I noticed I was choosing ones related to the ocean, planes, and landscapes. Thus, Land, Air, & Sea became the theme. Adobe Photoshop became my best friend during this project. I explored different settings in Photoshop that helped me complete each of these pieces. This collection expresses stepping out of the box. I wanted to change the perspective even more than the original photo. After reviewing this set of photos, I am seeing them with new personalities and characteristics that I hadn’t seen before when as I was capturing each of the moments through my camera. Digital art is all about creating something different from what the naked eye can see, and I believe that each of these photos accomplishes that. Glitch Art allows the creator to explore all the “what-ifs” of photo manipulation and editing. Glitch Art allows the audience to see those “what-ifs” and recognize them – which differs from person to person.

SafetyOn link: safetyon.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a nonprofit campaign for a good cause. Design the brand, company, and advertising. tools used: Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator WordPress Elementor - Page Builder A project about designing for good is what lead me to create SafetyOn. SafetyOn is a nonprofit company that promotes positive gun use, proper education, and enforces the correct use of guns. The mission is to educate people about the safety, proper use, and laws about guns and ammunition. SafetyOn is a project created with WordPress, which gave me complete creative freedom. My inspiration was my stance on gun rights, and I wanted to develop a message that focused on the positive attributes of guns. SafetyOn aims to cater towards lovers, haters, and owners of guns and ammunition. I used this project with the goal of educating people in mind. While developing the campaign, I learned so much more about proper protection, use, and very interesting facts. Creating SafetyOn has taught me so much, and I have continued to learn thanks to my research for the project. I hope to continue developing this project, such as updating the website for the brand and keeping it up to date on what’s happening in the gun world.

Get Up objective: Design a habit tracking app that allows the user to start and/or break habits. tools used: Adobe Xd Get Up is an app about habits. Not all habits, though. Get Up focuses on habits related to physical health. Get Up is an app created in Adobe Xd. Getting used to good habits and breaking bad habits makes people feel better and Get Up aims to allow the users of the app to feel the same way. Get Up includes ‘start’ and ‘break’ tabs that separate the habits the user wants to start and/or break. Get Up also allows connections to be made through the app to other apps, such as Planet Fitness, Calm, and Nike Training Club. The biggest goal for this project was to create an app that encourages the user to start new physical health habits and/or break old ones. My biggest inspiration for this project was the song by Shinedown, “Get Up”, as well as my habit of working out. Get Up is for people like me who want to keep track of their progress. From creating this project, I learned that progress and creating/keeping up with habits makes a difference, whether they’re good or bad. The final piece turned out to be a lot better than my initial idea for Get Up.

ReVision objective: Create branding for the event series, ReVision 2021, for Bread Bakers Guild of America. tools used: Adobe Illustrator My first college client project…and I get to do it on bread? Okay!

After completing the logo, the second half of our project focused on creating Instagram posts to advertise the event series, certificates of completion for the students, and a brand guide that broke down every piece of the logo. Nolan Badore created the editable Instagram posts, Justin Gecse created the certificates, and I pulled apart the logo to create the brand guide.

Working with Bread Bakers Guild of America has taught me much about branding, brand identity, It wasn’t exactly working with bread, but rather working with Bread Bakers Guild of America. The and involving the client in every step of the profirst half of the project was developing a logo for cess. The final piece means a great deal to me because it shows that one crazy idea can turn the 2021 event series hosted by Bread Bakers into an awesome logo. Guild of America, ReVison. Due to their 2020 series being canceled due to COVID, they decided to carry that theme over to 2021. The logo for ReVision was born from an idea about putting a cinnamon roll in a pair of glasses. Not literally, of course. The idea came from the client, and I decided to run with it. After multiple versions being done in Adobe Illustrator, we finally hit the mark, which became the final logo. This project was done in a team, and we each have an element within the logo that we created. The layout was created by me, the glasses frames and cinnamon roll by Justin Gecse, and the blue and grey millstone by Nolan Badore.

Corsican objective: In a team, create a set of deliverables for a culinary-based client. tools used: Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign I absolutely love learning about new places in the world. Corsica was one of them. Corsican is a corporate cuisine restaurant inspired by the island of Corsica. For this project, I worked with a team. When my team began creating logos for the client to choose from, we all focused on the mountains of Corsica and the colors from the scenery of the island. For this project, I worked with a team. Each member of the team created a logo for the client that would later be chosen by said client. Then, each of us chose a deliverable to work on. First, I chose the menu. Upon creating the menu, I chose to use a topographic background to continue the mountainous theme. Second, Justin Gecse assigned himself the takeaway cards and stickers. Lastly, Nolan Badore chose the flyer. The biggest inspiration for the project was Corsica’s mountains. In creating the deliverables, we focused on a calm, cool color palette that still stood out. This project allowed me to step outside of my comfort zone for a while, including my first ever menu creation. Our goals for the project were to make all the deliverables cohesive with one another. After seeing the final product, we accomplished that goal.

Beacon Charter Capital Campaign objective: Create Capital Campaign materials for a client. tools used: Adobe Illustrator Adobe InDesign Adobe Photoshop Creating a Capital Campaign was new territory. After this project? Not anymore. Beacon Charter School was working on obtaining an abandoned church to expand their school and create a theater for the students to perform in. I and my design team partner, Justin Gecse, each created a logo and stylescape for the client. After meeting with them to show our initial progress, we refined our logos based on their feedback to create one final logo. The final logo is the shape of the church they were taking possession of, which was the main inspiration for us. After a logo was chosen, we worked on multiple brochure layouts that the client would choose from later to promote the new addition to the school: Beacon Charter Center for the Arts. The client provided us with the textual content, I produced the updated architectural maps and final logo, and Justin formatted the postcard. The final product was the result of a wonderful collaboration between Justin and I. Our final piece came out greater than we imagined, and we loved every step of the process.

Lincoln Senior Center: 12 Month Calendar objective: Create a meaningful project for a client. tools used: Adobe InDesign Adobe Photoshop Adobe Acrobat This was the project that made a big difference. My first calendar and my high school senior project was the project that people still talk about years later. The client, the Lincoln Senior Center, requested 100 copies of a 12-month calendar. They gave me one objective: to have it be revolved around the Senior Center. The creation of the calendar was a long process. It began with taking photos of the entire senior center, gathering information about the center, and meeting with the client about what they envisioned for the calendar. My original goal for the calendar was to celebrate the senior center. After printing it over 100 times, my goal changed. My goal was to celebrate the senior center and those who occupy it every day. The seniors deserved something they would remember. I learned much more than I thought I would from this project. After a lot of paper cuts, misprints, and paper jams, this project taught me a lot about not giving up. Persistence was the key to this project. The final product was well worth it, every step of the way. As far as inspiring future projects, all future calendars will have a lot to live up to.

Lincoln Senior Center: Christmas Ornament Poster objective: Create a poster to advertise Christmas ornament sales. tools used: Adobe InDesign Adobe Illustrator Adobe Acrobat Anything for Christmas, right? Creating a poster for Christmas Ornament sales definitely put me on Santa’s nice list. The client, the Lincoln Senior Center, requested 12 posters to be made to advertise the sales of Christmas ornaments to decorate the Friends of the Lincoln Senior Center Christmas tree. The money would then be put towards their 501C3 to help support future events. The poster was inspired by the ornaments the senior center was selling. After gathering the information needed for the poster, I was allowed creative freedom for the design. My biggest goal was to create a poster that stood out from the rest and portrayed a straightforward message. The final poster achieved the goals I set for myself in the beginning, with a little extra Christmas spirit.

Rudolph Christmas Card & Wrapping Paper objective: Create a holiday card with a notable character from that holiday. tools used: Adobe Illustrator Having fun with Christmas is one of my favorite things, especially when it involves design. Being able to design a Christmas card brings me a lot of Christmas cheer. For this project, I chose a very popular Christmas character to include in my card: Rudolph! The card is done entirely in Adobe Illustrator, and it was a result of playing around with a few tools. Even though the project only required a card, I added a printed wrapping paper to match. My biggest inspiration for this project was, in fact, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The goal of this project was to spread some Christmas cheer before the holiday break. After finishing the project, I passed out the cards to my family and even wrapped a few presents with the wrapping paper! This project did what I wanted it to do – spread Christmas cheer!

Backstage Pass link: backstagepass.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a website for a monthly subscription box. tools used: WordPress Elementor - Page Builder Subscription boxes are boxes you can get monthly, packed with goodies based on a monthly theme. I incorporated my love of music into this project, creating a site that sends subscription boxes filled with CDs. Backstage Pass is the name of the site, as it sends the message that it feels like you’re going backstage to get to know an artist through their music. My biggest inspiration was my love for music and my big collection of CDs. I used this to my advantage in this project, even photographing some of them for the project. My goal was to show that CDs are not going out of style. I wanted to explore what I could do when I crossed my CD collection with creating a website. Backstage Pass was the result. The final site was more than what I had envisioned.

Amplified link: rockmusic.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a blog site based on a topic of choice. tools used: WordPress Elementor - Page Builder My first blog was something I had to do for a project, but later became a site that I keep updating. It was first named Rock Music in 2019 and renamed Amplified the following year. The purpose of the blog is to share my opinions on albums that have made a big impact on me. The main inspiration for Amplified is Loudwire, a popular rock music news blog. I wanted to have a similar outlet, but one more opinion-based. My goal for Amplified is that I have a space to talk about my love of music that has impacted me, even if it doesn’t get readers. Amplified, even though it gets updated often, is much better than what I originally envisioned for the site. Amplified has given me a space where I can talk about what I love.

Facebook objective: Find an existing website and redesign it. Make improvements to the site as well as put your own twist on it. tools used: Adobe Xd Social media sites that don’t update to fit with the times can end up losing a lot of users or end up replaced by another social media site. This project involved redesigning a website to make it more modern, fix any issues with the design, and put one’s own twist on it. My choice was Facebook. My redesign of Facebook began in Adobe Photoshop and ended in Adobe Xd. The original project called for the redesign to be done in Photoshop, but I wanted something that worked. Later, I did the project again in Adobe Xd. My inspiration for the project was solely my own creativity and Facebook’s color palette. My goal was to turn classic Facebook into sleek, modern, upscale Facebook. The second version turned out to be much better than the first, including much more detail. This piece will influence future works that involve Adobe Xd.

Gotham objective: Build a type specimen book based on a self-chosen font. tools used: Adobe Illustrator For someone who’s been to New York a good number of times, I still needed inspiration for this project. This project’s objective was to build and create a type specimen book based on a self-chosen font. The font I chose was Gotham. My type specimen book was built in Adobe Illustrator, and when printed, ended up being over six feet long. Let’s just say that the vertical accordion layout didn’t exactly work. To gain inspiration, I searched for all the train maps in New York City. I not only gained inspiration, but a color palette as well. I designed the book to look like a subway map, with lines that flowed throughout the entire book. My goal with the type specimen book was to celebrate the Gotham font in a way that was different, but also gave hints to its origin city. In the end, the Gotham type specimen book came out to be my favorite typographical piece.

Arrow Hotel link: arrowhotel.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a website for a boutique hotel with a self-chosen theme. tools used: WordPress Elementor - Page Builder If you’ve ever stayed in a hotel, it’s obvious that all the rooms look the same, the floors look the same, and even the artwork from floor to floor is similar. This project throws all of that out the window. For this project, the task was to create a website for a self-created boutique hotel. Thus, Arrow Hotel was created. I created Arrow Hotel with a challenge for myself in mind: use Pantone’s 2019 color of the year, Living Coral, and create my theme from that color. The color was bold and comforting, so I ran with the theme. Arrow Hotel’s branding and website includes the color to make the theme cohesive. My biggest inspiration for the site was bringing together stunning French artworks and the upscale New York City. My goal was to create a site that invoked the feeling that you were in Paris and New York City simultaneously. This website achieved more than just that one goal. Arrow Hotel quickly became the project I’ll never regret.

Michelle’s Basement objective: Create a full menu for a fictional restaurant. tools used: Adobe InDesign Menu design was something I became more interested in after working on projects such as Corsican. After that project, I resurrected a menu for a project that I had done a few years prior: Michelle’s Basement. Michelle’s Basement began as a simple editorial project, getting to know Adobe InDesign better. After making changes to the menu a few years later, Michelle’s Basement became something better than what I envisioned when I first did the project. My inspiration for the menu was my mom, whose name is Michelle. I wanted to name a project after her, and this was my way of doing so. The biggest goal I had when redoing this project was to fix all the prior issues, add menu items, add imagery, and create a better design for the menu. I wanted the menu to come back to life, but in a way that would make it better than the first version. After finishing the menu, I learned more about menu creation and organization. The final menu is much better than what I imagined when I first began the project.

Broken Arrows objective: Create a custom hand-drawn font. tools used: Micron Pens Adobe Illustrator Calligraphr Creating a font was not something I ever thought I’d do. However, when given a project and a bit of inspiration, things become possible. Broken Arrows is a font I developed by myself. A prior version is the one that works as a font! The new version, however, has not been made into an official font yet. The new and current version Broken Arrows was inspired by the song “Broken Arrows” by Daughtry. I wanted to reflect the feelings from that song into the font I had already created. The script yet edgy font represents those feelings in every part of each letter. My goal was to have my own font that would be unique to me. After creating Broken Arrows, that goal has been met! In the future, I hope to create more fonts from my own handwriting.

Something About Gatsby objective: Tell a story in ten pictures. tools used: Canon EOS Rebel SL1 They say that pictures are worth a thousand words. In this photography series I created, I’m pretty sure I told the whole story (with some spoilers, if you’ve never read the book). This photography series project is based on “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was also my inspiration. With my camera and a handful of good props I had around my room, this series was created. Before taking the photographs, I wrote descriptions of the pictures I wanted to take and how I wanted to tell the story. This process also involved reading the book again to make sure I got the story right. Next, I set up all the props I wanted to use for each picture. This process came with limitations because I had a bigger vision than I had budget. I used whatever I could with what I had and worked them into the Gatsby theme. When I began, my goal was to tell the story of “The Great Gatsby” in pictures. When I finished, I had successfully transformed a popular 1920’s novel into ten photographs.

Deadpool Animation objective: Redesign a movie or TV show title sequence as an animation. tools used: Adobe After Effects Adobe Illustrator Adobe Premiere Pro Title sequences are in every movie and tv show. They can be animated or live action. Some of the theme songs can even get stuck in your head! This project focused on title sequences and redesigning them as an animation. The first one that came to my mind was Deadpool. Deadpool is a movie with a lot of easter eggs, and I wanted to be sure I used them to my advantage in my design. I designed each frame in Adobe Illustrator, then animated them in After Effects. The biggest goal in this project was movement and timing. I wanted the animation to be timed right with the music. Animation was new territory for me, but the process of doing this project made it feel easy. The final video came out much better than I had originally given myself credit for.

Knot Shore link: knotshore.sabrinalaramee.com objective: Create a microsite for a brand you developed. You are welcome to use an existing brand as a client. tools used: HTML/CSS/PHP WordPress Usually, when I’m given an objective for a project, I have ideas that I can run with. This project was not one of them. The project’s name, Knot Shore, is the result of me literally not being sure of what I wanted to do my project on. The objective of the project was to create a microsite for a fictional brand with an existing company as I client. The microsite was to include a “top ten” list of features from that company. After finally deciding my project theme, I chose Royal Caribbean as my “client”, although the site is not affiliated with the brand.

My project theme was about the top ten things to do on a Royal Caribbean Oasis Class ship. I created the site entirely in code with HTML, CSS, and PHP. PHP was my biggest hurdle in this project. My goal was getting over that hurdle. The process of creating the site with PHP was a roller coaster, but a great learning experience nonetheless after spending three hours on Zoom with my professor on how to do the site in PHP. The final site is something I will always tell the story of, and it came out much better than I ever imagined when I started. Knot Shore will become a model for future projects that absolutely need to include PHP. Otherwise, it will be shown as my favorite project I’ve ever done.
