Mo Ghlas

web design, content management, product customization The Mo Ghlas project began as an Adobe Illustrator assignment in my freshman year of college. The purpose of the project was to create a mock website in Illustrator to help prepare for upcoming web-based classes. After that, I decided to take it a step further and use it for a project in a coding class during my sophomore year of college. Finally, I took it into WordPress, and that’s where the magic happened. I reconstructed the website and further updated it to make it better than it was. I was inspired by big whiskey companies such as Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, Johnnie Walker, and Maker’s Mark. My site has been well-received and I’m so proud of what it’s become in WordPress. Cheers.

Tamasu content management, typography

This project was different, due to the fact that it required being part of a Design Team. We were tasked with creating a set of deliverables with a real client within Johnson & Wales University. My team was given Tamasu, a Japanese street food style restaurant. Each member of the team created a logo for the client, that would later be picked by said client. Once the logo was chosen by the chef team, each of us took a deliverable to work on. First, Nolan Badore took charge of the menu creation and postcards. Then, Justin Gecse volunteered to do the Instagram Post Campaign. Finally, I decided to tackle the Digital TV Advertisement campaign. The deliverables were used by the team to open their restaurant - and we were later given feedback which said that they would actually use it for a real restaurant.

Get Up web design, photo editing

Habits. We all have them. The goal of this project was to create a habit tracking app that allows the user to start new habits or break old ones. Get Up was inspired by the Shinedown song of the same name as well as my habit of going to the gym nearly every day. Get Up is for those who want to keep track of their exercising habits as well as habits they want to break related to exercising. Getting used to good habits and breaking bad habits makes people feel better, and Get Up aims to allow the users of the app to feel the same way. Get Up includes ‘start’ and ‘break’ tabs that separate the habits the user wants to start and/or break. Get Up also allows connections to be made through the app to other apps, such as Planet Fitness, Calm, and Nike Training Club.

The client, the Lincoln Senior Center, requested twelve posters to be made to advertise that they were selling personalized Christmas ornaments. The ornaments would be used to decorate the Friends of the Lincoln Senior Center Christmas Tree located at the Senior Center. The money would then be used in their 501C3 to help support further events. For the poster, my assignment was to revolve it around the ornament itself. The client provided me with the text that would go on the poster, but I was allowed to use my own creativity with the illustrations. Since Christmas is my favorite holiday, I decided to use Christmas-related fonts to fully embrace the Christmas theme. The project itself was a blast to do, and I’m glad that my work was used to help sell the most ornaments the Senior Center had sold since they began the fundraiser.

Arrow Hotel web design, content management

“AND NOW YOU’RE IN NEW YORK, NEW YORK, NEW YORK!” Sorry. I created Arrow Hotel with a challenge in mind: use Pantone’s 2019 color of the year, Living Coral, and create a theme for a hotel out of it. I fell in love with the bold, yet peaceful color, and ran with the idea. Out of it, I made a whole website that made for a great project. When I pushed it further to WordPress, it came out better than originally planned. This hotel site has made me fall in love with content management, web design, and websites overall. The creation and development of Arrow Hotel is why this project is one that I am most proud of.

Something About Gatsby ten photograph series

They say that pictures are worth a thousand words. In this photography series I created, I am certain I told the whole story with some spoilers if you’ve never read the book. My inspiration for this series was “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Somehow, I did this on no budget and a few cups of coffee. I swear, I didn’t spend the money shown in the 5th picture…or drink the whiskey in the 6th.

1. The Book

Before I began taking the photos, I wrote out the descriptions of the shots I wanted to take and how I wanted to tell the story. Then, I began gathering the props I wanted to use in each shot. I had some limitations because I don’t own all the props I wanted to include. Luckily, I had backups and worked them in so they fit into the theme I was going for. When I finished, I had transformed a popular 1920’s novel into ten photographs.

Facebook Redesign web design, content management, re-branding

Facebook is a social media site that allows users to connect with friends and family. Facebook appeals to everyone: kids, teenagers, adults, seniors, etc. Facebook stayed way too simple for way too long. At the time the project was assigned, I decided to make it more modern and include a more photography based homepage, like Tumblr. The objective of the assignment was to find an existing website and redesign it, including making improvements and adding one’s own style to it. My redesign of Facebook creates a more modern and inviting atmosphere for the demographic Facebook aims towards.

Backstage Pass web design, content management, product creation It’s about to get heavy. The goal for this project was to create a site for a monthly subscription box. I love music, especially through CDs, so I decided to use that to my advantage and created Backstage Pass. It allows customers to discover new music. Backstage Pass was founded in April 2019. They set out to solve a problem in the music industry: CDs going out of style. While creating the site, I found that it began to come out the way I wanted. Once I got used to using the page builder I installed in WordPress, the website came out so much better than I imagined. I was inspired by my other blog project, Amplified, to create this site. I absolutely love music and created Backstage Pass to promote underground bands that many people don’t know about.

Safety On web design, content management, product design, branding Ready. Aim. Fire. SAFETYON is a nonprofit company that promotes positive gun use, proper education, and enforces the correct use of guns. Their mission is to educate people about the safety, proper use, and laws about guns and ammunition. I was inspired to create this because I feel strongly about gun rights, and I feel that they have a lot of positive attributes about them. SAFETYON aims to cater towards lovers, haters, and owners of guns and ammunition. They are open to educating the general audience and teaching responsible protection. While developing the campaign, I learned so much more about proper protection, use, and very interesting facts. Creating SAFETYON has taught me so much. I hope to continue work on this project, such as developing an entire website for the brand and keeping it up to date on what’s happening in the gun world.

Animated Title Sequence animation, typography

“captain deadpool. no...just...just deadpool.” The objective of this super fun project was to redesign a movie or TV show title sequence as an animation. The first Deadpool movie was my choice for this project. I powered through this project with a lot of reruns of Deadpool to get the easter eggs right. I can recite almost the entire movie. I started by going through the original title sequence, jotting everyone down that the sequence included. I had a lot of hurdles to jump over during this project because of copyright and not being allowed to make it R-rated, like the original sequence was. I solved this by creating my own illustration of Deadpool, my own artwork, as well as my own animations throughout the piece. When I finished, I had finally become really comfortable with animation – something I had previously been afraid of.

Amplified web design, content management, blog site *insert drumroll here* The mission for this project was to create a blog site based on a topic of choice. I created Amplified because I love music. I love the learning the story behind a band’s albums and how one fits into the next. I wrote out all my posts first, to save time later on. Then, I created the site through WordPress. I published my posts, added photos, and spruced up my typography palette. I was really inspired by Loudwire, a popular rock music blog. They post news, while my blog focuses on opinion based articles. I aim to continue posting to Amplified, because that bad boy is getting a Grammy for best new website.

Reputation web design, photo editing Reputation. The word to describe Taylor Swift’s greatest and most detailed era. From beginning to end, the era was intricate, intimate, and inspiring. Taylor Swift showed that she came out stronger after taking a brief hiatus. I decided to do a timeline on this era because I loved the overall meaning behind it - fighting back against those who have hurt you as well as finding something real. The album may have been dark, but it truly spoke to me. there will be no further explanation. there will just be reputation.

12 Month Calendar print, photography, typography

The client, the Lincoln Senior Center, requested 100 copies of a 12-month calendar. The calendar was an incentive for a Christmas party they were hosting. For the calendar itself, they gave me one objective: to have it be revolved around the Senior Center. So, I decided to go around the center and photograph the rooms in order and match them up with each month of the calendar. From beginning to end, this project was a challenge, but it was a really great learning experience for me.

Knot Shore web design, content management

The objective for this project was to create a microsite for a brand that I had to develop with an existing brand as a client. The microsite was to include a top ten list of features from that brand. I chose Royal Caribbean as my client, although the site is not affiliated with the brand. The name, Knot Shore, came to me because I literally was not sure what to name the site. The process of creating the site through PHP was a roller coaster ride, but a great learning experience nonetheless. I plan to use the site as a model for future projects that need to include PHP.
