STAYING ON SCHEDULE In April, the number of vaccines administered to children in California fell by more than 40% compared to last year. To ensure that patients stay on schedule, the Clinic recently hosted a free Back to School Vaccine Clinic for the third consecutive year. “Staying on top of scheduled vaccines, has never been more important,” says Tiffany Fischman, Pediatrician. The drive-through/walk-up clinic allowed kids to receive their vaccines in a safe outdoor setting. Families came from as far as Orange County and enjoyed music, entertainment and a visit from “Sparky”, the LA Sparks dog. Giveaways like backpacks and toys brought big smiles and three lucky patients won new laptops to help with distance learning. Should I still get the flu vaccine? A MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER

With flu season just around the corner I wanted to remind everyone of the importance of getting a flu vaccine. The CDC recommends that everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine. Getting vaccinated is always important, but it’s even more critical now, when so many of our health care resources are being utilized. It’s best to get your vaccine in September or October, closer to the start of the flu season. Let’s be vigilant about keeping ourselves and our community healthy.

Holiday Fun Even if things look different, the need is still the same, in fact even greater. The 31st Annual Patient Holiday Party on December 9th will be a drive-thru, contactless event where patients can pick up essentials including a grocery store gift card, blanket, healthy snack, and more! Children will also receive a toy and book. Please help us continue to spread holiday cheer for our patients by making a monetary donation, purchasing an item on our wish list or volunteering at the event! Expanding Access for Unhoused Patients The 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count revealed that more than 66,000 people are now experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County, up 13% from last year. As the numbers and need continue to grow, we find new ways to step up and be a part of the solution. In August, the Clinic created a Roving Medical Team to provide COVID testing and medical services to individuals and families in temporary housing. A team consisting of a medical provider, medical assistant and patient enrollment specialist travel to multiple sites to deliver much needed medical care.
Is Healthcare a Human right? As a donor of the Clinic, you truly believe that healthcare IS a human right. Regardless of race, income, sexual orientation or immigration status, every human being deserves the highest quality care. IS IT OKAY THAT MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES ARE TREATED LESS THAN? The pandemic has highlighted the disparities in our healthcare system, ones the Clinic has been battling for more than 53 years.
