CLINIC NEWS
Now Open: Temple Family Health Center Amid federal budget cuts and growing need, the Clinic is doubling down on our commitment to the community — proof that when public funding falls short, private generosity helps make the impossible possible. On July 27th, we opened the doors to our newest medical clinic, expanding access to care for families in the Echo Park neighborhood. This new 6-room clinic, located on-site at Children’s Institute’s Otis Booth Campus, marks an important step forward in our mission to bring accessible, high-quality healthcare to the families and communities we serve. By partnering with Children’s Institute, an organization dedicated to helping individuals achieve educational success and emotional wellbeing, we’re bringing care into a space families already know and trust. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of the Danhakl Family Foundation and the Saban Family Foundation, whose support made this clinic a reality. At a time when federal funding for community health services is under increasing pressure, partners like these remind us remind us there is good in the world.
FEDERAL UPDATES
How Federal Healthcare Cuts Are Affecting Our Patients A quick look at what’s changed, what’s coming, and what it means for the people we serve. Quick refresher: Medicaid provides free or low-cost health coverage to people with low incomes — pregnant women, families with children, older adults, and people with disabilities. In California, it’s called Medi-Cal.
$4.6 Million in patient care funding is at risk each year from pending state and federal cuts FUNDING CUTS OCCURRING IN 2026–2027 JANUARY 1, 2026
JANUARY 1, 2027
Enrollment freeze for undocumented adults
New work requirement for Medicaid re-enrollment
Adults with an “Unsatisfactory Immigration Status” can no longer newly enroll in Medi-Cal.
$672K at risk / year
Many adults on Medi-Cal must prove 80 hrs/month of work, school, or volunteering — and reverify every 6 months instead of yearly. We expect this to cost some patients coverage based on paperwork alone, and we’re preparing now to help them stay covered.
80 hrs required / month JULY 1, 2027
End of reimbursement for undocumented patients’ care
JULY 1, 2027
We may no longer be reimbursed for primary care and mental health services to these patients — care we’ll keep providing regardless.
Loss of full dental benefits for undocumented patients
$3.3M at risk / year
Some of our most vulnerable patients will lose dental coverage entirely.
$608,000 at risk / year These cuts are real and significant. But so is our commitment to this community. No matter what lies ahead, we remain focused on one thing: showing up for our patients and delivering the care they deserve. Thank you for standing with us.
