Resilience in Action

"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated."
-Maya Angelou

Letter from the CEO

Dear Friends and Supporters,

This past year has been defined by a healthcare crisis— looming Medicaid cuts, systemic challenges, and undeniable turbulence. It’s a reality we cannot ignore. Yet, as I write this letter, my primary emotion is not despair, it is profound hope and resilience.

Saban Community Clinic has weathered many storms over the years and through it all, we have learned that we are defined by our resolve. The need for compassionate care is greater than ever, and we refuse to retreat.

Our resilience is a shared story: our staff adapts seamlessly to changing needs, and your essential partnership provides the stability needed to confidently forge a path forward.

Despite the current climate, we are growing and expanding our reach. This year saw our merger with Westmont Counseling Center in South LA, integrating crucial mental health services with our comprehensive medical, dental, and pharmacy care. We are also planning for the future, with a new clinic within Children’s Institute’s Otis Booth campus in Echo Park and breaking ground on our newest family health center at Crenshaw and Adams, scheduled to open in early 2027.

We anticipate the need will only grow greater, but we face the future with clarity and focus. As we continue to identify the needs of our community and how we can have the greatest impact, we work to create proactive courses of action, and ensure our mission remains the priority.

We are here because of you. Together, we turn challenges into opportunities to make a lasting impact.

With sincere gratitude and hope,

"I don’t just see resilience in our patients, but also in our staff; this inspires me every day. Their strength is the fuel for our mission."

Voices of Saban Community Clinic

“I am a theatre director and I don’t receive insurance through my employer. It can be really harrowing, having to try to figure out how I would pay for medical care if anything happened to me. Saban Community Clinic has been a blessing. They are always there with their doors open, ready to help. I feel a huge sense of relief having found them.”

“I feel blessed to be benefitting from Saban Community Clinic’s care. They have helped restore my oral health and as a result I now smile. I have gained self confidence, and it has touched every aspect of my life.”

– Guy, Patient

"I'm an LA native. To me, LA has always been about diversity. I always knew I wanted to work at a place like Saban, because I wanted to make sure that everyone was getting the health care that they deserve. We are all a part of this community and we depend on each other.”

– Dr. Jennifer Lee, OB/GYN

A life-saving diagnosis

When I first started feeling very uncomfortable with the symptoms that I was having, I went to several doctors to try to figure out what was going on. I didn’t feel seen and heard until I came to Saban. My doctor encouraged me to see a specialist and the Clinic’s care navigators helped me make an appointment. I ended up being diagnosed with cancer. I was scared, but the team at Saban held my hand through the entire process. Had I not been guided by them, I don’t know what would have happened. I am now cancer free and grateful to the Clinic for saving my life. – Russell, Patient

Making healthcare a human right

"Not only do they have these life saving programs, but they have programs that can help a pregnant woman deliver a healthy baby, or families who are struggling who don’t have a job. It seems like it should be a simple thing for everyone in our country to access that, but it’s not. A lot of people don’t have access to reliable, quality care. But for those of us who rely on the clinic, it’s more than important, it’s life changing." – Amanda, Patient

A happy, healthy family isn't a status symbol

Shortly after moving to Los Angeles from Canada, Laura learned she was pregnant. As a musician without steady income or health insurance, she didn’t know where to turn – she was scared. Finding Saban Community Clinic changed everything. She immediately called and made an appointment with our prenatal care team. She enrolled in the Centering Pregnancy Program and received prenatal care. She was assigned an OB/GYN, as well as a doula, and benefitted from the supportive community of women in the program who were due at the same time.

Since then, Saban has become her family’s medical home. Today, Laura, her husband, and their daughter, Zuri, all receive care at Saban, making it possible for them to stay in LA and pursue their dreams. “I feel lucky to have found the Clinic. I don’t think a happy and healthy family should be a status symbol. We all deserve to be healthy.” – Laura, Patient
