Weekly log

The Brief was to design an exhibition space for a chosen artist. I chose Mohammed Ali, a local artist from Birmingham. He does street art on a large can-
I decided to do an outdoor and in indoor exhibition. I went with a maze idea for the walls where the art will display. I wanted the main exhibition museum areas to have a complete feeling so I decided to go for circular shapes for the building.

Throughout my final year, my classmate and I were assigned to design a building with a proposal of creating a building of cultural, recreational, workplaces and educational design process. My building falls under the category of Educational.
At the start of the year we were introduced to clusters, in which was considered in themes of the style in which we would be designing- I decided to go with materiality and context. The specific site that was chosen for my cluster was Bristol hotel on prince street.
I decided to design an educational learning centre for students who would like to focus on university work outside of university. I took my personal experience on how I feel working in place that’s I’m studying. I wanted to create a space that won’t affect a student’s mental health and don’t feel as much pressure as they would in a university institution and feel relaxed to they could exceed in doing well.
Element A- after analysing the Bristol hotel with a group site visit, I saw the building in a negative perspective. I took pictures of the decay and impurities in the building. I decided to study the area, and I found this part of the harbour to be neglected and full of decay. But the more I studied the building, I found my new passion of looking at decay as part of life and how natural it is. So towards the end of element a I now saw decay as a natural way in showing how a building ages.I expermented through painting skeching and drawing.
Element B- in element b I decided to design a learning institution in which used for large projects such as studying and experimenting on decay. I created a more relaxed environment in which students can relax. I saw and studied Uwe and saw what improvements its needs and decided to create a building according to.

THE PANELSTHESE PANELS WERE MADE IN HONOUR OF THE COLSTON’S. THE SEA LION REPRESENTS THE CREST OF THE FAMILY. THERE ARE 15 PANELS AND EACH BEING UNIQUE IN REPRESENTING BRISTOL. FOR EXAMPLE, THE BOMBED CHURCHED OF ST NICHOLAS, BAGE OF BRISTOL GUIDE WEAVERS, TADE TOKEN AND THE CORPORATIVE SOCIETY. THESE ARE SOME OF THE PANELS THAT INTERESTED ME.
THE ONES THAT I HAVE DRAWN ABOVE ARE, THE HISTORY OF BRISTOL, THE CORPORATIVE SOCIETY AND JET INTAKE. I THOUGHT THESE PANELS PERFECTLY REPRESENTED BRISTOL AS A WHOLE. FURTHERMORE I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM TO IN ORDER TO CREATE A COLLAGE OF REPRESENTING MY SITE.

FROM THE SITE I TOOK A FEW SKETCHES, I CONCENTRATED ON MAJORLY ON TEXTURES. I FOUND THESE TEXTURES FROM THE NEGATIVES OF THE BUILDING FROM MOLD, DECAY, RUST AND PAINT STROKES. I REPRESENTED THE SKETCHES THROUGH A COLLAGE.

AFTER RESEARCHING AND LOOKING FOR A PRECEDENCE I FOUND SOMETHING THAT WAS SIMILAR TO WHAT I AM STUDYING IN THE BUILDING ON PRINCE STREET.VTHESE WERE SIMILAR TO THE TEXTURES I SAW, SKETCHED AND EVEN PAINTED

MATERIALS LEFT IN THE OPEN-
FOR THE EXHIBITION I WANTED TO PRESENT THIS EXPERIMENTED MODEL, TO SHOW THE AFFECTS OF DECAY. I USED MATERIALS SUCH AS PAIRS OF PLASTER, CLAY, CONCRETE, CARDBOARD MESH AND WIRE.
IT WAS INTERESTING TO SEE THE MOLD AND ALGAE FORMED ON THE MODEL. I LEFT THIS MODEL IN THE GARDEN FOR TWO WEEKS AT THE END OF NOVEM-BER. I LEFT IN IN A SEMI SHELTERED SPACE, OTHER WISE IT WOULD HAVE LOOKED A LOT WORSE.
IN PREPARATION OF THE EXHIBITION, I DECIDED TO DO COLLAGES OF ALL THE BUILDINGS THAT HAD BEEN AFFECTED BY DEAY AND WEATHER-ING. THIS IS THE PROCESS OF ONE CANVAS. I USED PAINT, INK AND WA-TERCOLOURS. I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO SHOW THE BEAUTY IN DECAY AND WEATHERING.

THESE ARE THE SKETCHED I DID, MAINLY WITH WATERCOLOURS. I CAPTURED IT ALONG SIDE DOING THEM.
Element B- in element b I decided to design a learning institution in which is used for large projects such as studying and experimenting on decay. I created a more relaxed environment in which students can relax. I saw and studied Uwe and saw what improvements its needs and decided to create a building according to.

HERE I STARTED TO LOOK AT GRIDESHELLS AS I LIKED LOOKED AT ORGANIC SHAPES.

THE SITE PLAN WAS DESIGNED AS WOODLAND AREA WITH AN OUTDOOR WORKSHOP, VEG PATCH FOR THE PUBLIC, AND OUTDOOR EXHIBITION AREA.
