MEET
Mandy Racine - Mandy’s works have been acquired by private collectors across the US, Europe and Middle East, as well as by the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Nice, France.
- Her works were shown at Artbox Projects
during Art Basel, Switzerland in 2017 in a juried exhibition of 30 international artists.
Mandy Racine’s figurative paintings live in a transitional space between classical portraiture, abstraction, and street art. Finding inspiration in the works of the Old Masters, Mandy’s canvases are scored with charcoal underdrawings and then layered with gesso, paint, and pastel to create textural works reminiscent of frescoes. Mandy received her BFA (Hons) in Printmaking from West Surrey College of Art & Design, Farnham, UK, and now lives in Mallorca, Spain. She has exhibited her works in numerous international and group exhibitions.

Can you explain your process? Seeing abstract elements in figurative subjects and the space between things, flow and movement all inspire me to paint in a variety of media. Often it starts with a charcoal drawing which is worked over with gesso, paint, plaster and sometimes crayon or pastel, creating different textures and layers. Where do you find inspiration? I take inspiration from classical works which offer a rich source of ideas, particularly in terms of textures, colors and movement. When Iʟm not painting, I work as a freelance decorative painter creating frescoes, ageing and antiquing furniture, doing marbling — all techniques that cross over into my paintings. Beate Garding Schubert studied painting at the Braunschweig University of Art in Germany and she works from her studios in both Germany and Mallorca. These two different landscapes inform her vibrant, spontaneous and gestural paintings which are the result of a desire to inspire happiness in today’s uncertain world. Each work contains subtle elements of the natural world, and moves from fluid abstraction to surreal landscape upon deeper contemplation.
