Welcome to Out Brunch

Welcome to Out Brunch 2024! I am thrilled that you were able to join us today as we gather to celebrate our community's resilience, unity, and achievements.
I am honored to be a part of this event and delighted to applaud Tucson Queerstory, Miguel Cruz, Nick Wayne Eggman, Paul Durham, and Philippe Waterinckx . Our organization has been dedicated to serving the LGBTQ+ community and those affected by HIV/AIDS for over three decades. We have seen firsthand the challenges and triumphs that come with being a part of this community, and we are committed to providing support, resources, and advocacy for all.
As we gather today, let us recommit ourselves to the values of love, acceptance, and inclusivity. Thank you for being a part of Out Brunch. I look forward to celebrating with you all and continuing to work together to create a world where everyone can live their authentic selves without fear of discrimination or prejudice.

Out Brunch Award Categories
Steve Hall Award
The Steve Hall Award is given to an individual/organization who makes outstanding volunteer contributions to further the mission of promoting freedom, equality, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ people in Southern Arizona. Honoring the dedication and consistent commitment of the volunteer’s life to the LGBTQ+ community, the Steve Hall Award honors the past work and promotes the future volunteer endeavors of the recipient. The award is named after Steve Hall, a pioneering volunteer who served the LGBTQ+ community with tireless dedication.
Godat Award
The Godat Award was inaugurated in 1998 to recognize extraordinary long-term contributions by an individual to Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community. Recipients of this prestigious award have shown keen leadership in the LGBTQ+ community and advocated throughout their careers for the advancement of the whole community. Ken Godat, after whom the award is named, was the first recipient. Since its inception, the Godat Award has celebrated the personal commitment and public advocacy of Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ leaders.
Dr. Jean Baker Community Ally Award
In 2001, an award was created to honor a straight ally who has made significant contributions to advance the freedom, equality, safety, and well-being of LGBTQ+ people in Southern Arizona. Knowing that the work of so many in the LGBTQ+ community is aided and furthered by our straight allies. The Dr. Jean Baker Community Ally Award shines a light on the faithful and indefatigable efforts of an ally working with Southern Arizona’s LGBTQ+ community.
Richard Elías Public Servant Award
Inaugurated last year, the Richard Elías Public Servant Award will be presented to public or government servants who have made significant or extraordinary contributions to the equality, equity, health, and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community of Tucson and Arizona. This award is named after Representative Richard Elías for his long time support to both the LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS community, and other marginalized groups.

TUCSON QUEERSTORY
Steve Hall Award Recipient
Tucson Queerstory is an active archive of personal stories of the LGBTQ+ Tucson community. Their mission is to collect, preserve, exhibit, celebrate, and make our community's history accessible to the public. It is important to Tucson Queerstory to acknowledge, support and promote a comprehensive understanding of the diversity within Tucson's LGBTQ+ community; to support and collaborate with other local organizations and schools.

PAUL DURHAM & PHILIPPE WATERINCKX
Richard Elías Public Servant Award Recipient
Paul and Philippe were not only connected by their love for each other, but also by their passion to positively impact their community. Paul was a fearless advocate for Tucson serving on the City Council for four years. We can still see some of the changes that were led by Paul through his dedication to climate change. Philippe believed so strongly in the power of community supported agriculture, that he founded Tucson CSA in 2004. This allowed local organic produce to be more accessible to Tucsonans. Although their loss is heavy, both leave behind legacies that continue to be felt by the citizens of this beautiful community.

CLINIC
SAAF is advancing health equity for LGBTQ+ and underserved communities through the establishment of SAAF Health, our region's inaugural LGBTQ+ affirming health center. At SAAF Health, we deliver primary care in a secure and supportive environment with two main objectives: enhancing healthcare accessibility and improving health outcomes for LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalized groups, while also addressing health disparities within Pima County's LGBTQ+ community.
Our focus extends to diverse demographics, including LGBTQ+ individuals and marginalized groups such as houseless individuals, substance users (including participants in our Syringe Access Program), refugees, undocumented immigrants, and people of color. We offer primary care services at no charge to the patient, further diminishing obstacles to care and bolstering access for our community's most vulnerable members. SAAF Health serves patients aged 13 and above, providing a comprehensive range of outpatient medical services.
Our services encompass essential diagnostic and therapeutic procedures commonly found in medical practices or at the initial point of healthcare delivery, ensuring holistic care for all individuals who seek our support.
