Hello and welcome to the March edition of S41 Local Magazine.

There seems to be a lot going on in Chesterfield at the minute and I don't mean the road works (sorry, couldn't help myself).

The Glassyard on Whittington Moor is well underway with several, local businesses already operating from there.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the artisan food hall known as the Batch House officially opening. I feel this will be a great addition to an area of town on the up!

Mr Packard called me a few weeks ago and kindly left me a voicemail pointing out that Brockwell is an S40 postcode and that he likes reading the magazine. I'd like to thank him for his message and assure him that S41 is just a name. I was raised in Brockwell and had the best childhood ever. Thank you for reading my humble publication.

Speaking of Brockwell, the Badger Park is open and Florie (aged 3) and I have enjoyed playing on it several times already! A big thanks and well done to everyone at the 'Friends of Badger Park' for this wonderful transformation.

This month's front cover was sent in by one of our readers, Lindsey Till. Lindsey sent me the most heart-warming and encouraging email I have ever received whilst doing the magazine. It just so happens she is a very talented photographer. Lindsey had no idea she was going to feature on our front cover. We get back from the world what we give out!

The March edition is packed full of great editorial written by some amazing local people, as always.

We have lots of new advertisers in this one which fills me with hope for the future of Chesterfield's, local, businesses.

I

'm not sure if we tend to be negative to change, but as Cesterfeldians, we have a lot to be celebrate; we sometimes just need to understand the bigger picture.

I'm a Chesterfield Champion and admit that it's sometimes difficult to see how specific projects can be beneficial. If I'm a Champion (e.g., someone who should spread positivity) and I feel this way, it's not surprising that reaction is sometimes adverse to things in the pipeline. However, these schemes are often part of a larger 'master plan' and will prove beneficial in the long term.

Recently, Jewson relocated their business to Sheffield Road, from the site to the east of the A61 corridor, this move facilitates the development of a new link road to the railway station. After this, the later phases will see a new pedestrianised walkway from the station up past St Marys (Crooked Spire) and into town. The purchase of the Chesterfield Hotel forms part of these plans and will create a vast improvement on the narrow unattractive bridge over the A61.

Our town centre is doing exceptionally well, and many other similar towns are struggling to maintain a high street anything like ours. We have many major retailers in town, some may have moved down to Ravenside, but this has enabled several smaller independent businesses to fill the spaces. True, there are some empty units in town but we have a vibrant market, dynamic Antique and Artisan markets, and Vicar Lane continues to attract the independents. One new tenant I'm excited to see back is Pizza Pi, in the unit opposite H&M beneath the large screen. We've become a University town and our college has seen the investment to engage with local businesses and provide the skills needed to support these businesses.

Slightly out of town, there is investment along Sheffield Road, The Glassyard is nearing completion, and several businesses have taken space, some new, some relocating. This was Page 4

perhaps sparked with the building of the CASA hotel in November 2010. Casa has since become one of Derbyshire’s leading four-star hotels.

Next door is the Technique Stadium, home to Chesterfield FC and other recent developments.

Clay Cross town centre is seeing significant change, and with the Avenue links to Chesterfield, more people are coming into town. Along the corridor to Clay Cross, you can't miss the number of housing developments taking place. These new houses bring in new residents wanting places to eat, shop and play.

The M1 corridor and Markham Vale are attractive sites for new logistics and manufacturing businesses, and with these new businesses come new jobs. The new Enterprise Centre in town will bring new businesses to the town centre, people wanting lunch, local facilities and services.

I'm not saying everything is rosy in Chesterfield, we still have some of the most deprived areas in the country, and we have a long way to go to rebuild confidence in town, but I do think we're on the leading edge of change.

I've always thought what a great location Chesterfield is in; we’re close to the M1, we can access numerous airports quickly, are close to three major cities, we have our own identity and, although we're not a Peak Park town, the Peak District is on our doorstep. We're in a great place … but don't tell too many people!

When I moved to Chesterfield, almost 20 years ago, I noticed a really strong sense of community, which is still very much apparent today. Our local leaders talk about the grand vision, 'a modern awakening, celebrating local, creating connections, and nurturing inventiveness'.

I wonder if, alongside the grand vision, we can aim for something a little simpler – 'let’s become a fabulous place to live!'

he latest edition to Chesterfield's evolving town centre is the vinyl market, held on the second Sunday of every month, and It's growing in popularity every month.

One of my fondest memories as a child was playing records on my dad's old record player. I remember being no older than seven when I was blasting out 'Alright now' by Free in the living room, singing along with dreams of being a rockstar!

Now Andy Wilkinson and Adrian Wells, the entrepreneurs behind AA Record Fairs, enable kids all over Chesterfield to form similar memories to me as they blast out Ed Sheeran on vinyl in the living room! (AA Records Fairs probably don't sell Ed Sheeran on vinyl!)

Andy has been part of the furniture at Chesterfield Market for over 30 years and has seen it all. Adrian is a classically trained pianist who left school at 16 to pursue his dream of being a rock and roll star.

Together they are the perfect match to run pop-up vinyl markets.

Last month, I caught up with Andy and Adrian on their busy market stall.

What made you both start a pop-up vinyl market?

Adrian: 'Well, we both had record shops and sold online, but it just wasn't for us. We didn't like it! So, we started standing at other people's record fairs and talked to the guys at the one in Leeds about how it all works. We spoke to some of the guys trading at the fairs who were happy to venture a little further south, and in 2019 the very first AA Record Fair was launched.'

Since the first one in 2019, you appear to have spread all over the place.

Andy: 'That's right, we hold record fairs in Chesterfield, Matlock Bath, Sheffield, Derby, Workshop, Lincoln, Nottingham and even as far south as Leicester!'

The vinyl revival is well Underway. Why do you think people are collecting records again?

Adrian: 'Well, I don't think vinyl ever went away.

We have always sold music whether on vinyl, cassette or CD, but all the serious collectors have always wanted vinyl. It was always older people in their late 50's or 60's who came to us, but now it's very popular with young people. A new generation has picked up on the experience of listening to and collecting music on vinyl, and it's turned the industry’s head. They (the record labels) have started issuing all their music on vinyl Again. It's great!'

Parallel lines, Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the moon and Michael Jackson – Thriller. These albums are purchased as soon as we put them out.'

What are you guys listening to at the minute?

Adrian: 'I’m really into my experimental music, Japanese electronic stuff that's a bit out there!'

Andy: 'I was into Jane's addiction back in the day, Rage Against the Machine, who I had a ticket to see play Leeds Festival two years ago which was cancelled for obvious reasons.'

People are starting record collections all the time.

What are your top tips when starting out?

Adrian: 'The most important thing you need is a decent turntable. There's no point in buying one of those little 'plasticy’ things. Buy a retro 1970’s turntable. You're not going to have to spend a lot of money on them, they are built to last and will look after your records when you play them.'

What was the first record you guys purchased?

Adrian: 'Mine was Mud rock volume two, but I had to send my mum in to get it!'

Andy: 'Michael Jackson – Farewell my summer love from Woolworths on the Chesterfield high street.'

What are your plans for the future?

Andy: 'We don’t want to get too big to be honest.

We like the little pop-up fairs which we do as a pair, we could grow quite a bit, but we are happy as we are."

Adrian: 'On the larger markets like Chesterfield, we invite about 40 traders to come and stand with us, but as Andy says, we are more than happy to keep doing our pop-up fairs and markets.'

It was great chatting with Andy and Adrian. Their passion and appreciation for music are infectious, and I can’t wait to start my own vinyl collection very soon. Let's hope my dad has his 70’s turntable in the loft!

he past two years have been hard work for us all, but imagine you're running one of Chesterfield's best-loved places to grab some food, Bottle & Thyme, (the 1317 Facebook reviews rate them as 4.7 out of 5 overall), so when lockdown required them to close the doors it gave owners, Gavin and Hannah time to reflect. The reflection resulted in them bringing forward something they had been thinking about for a while.

Welcome to OTI Interiors, a bespoke cabinetry business named after their son Otis.

But it wasn't quite as simple as that!

"Conversations with a customer had me thinking about whether I could set up a cabinet-making business, I've overseen all the work at Bottle & Thyme, and it was tempting," explains Gavin.

I've known Gavin for quite a few years now and learned how determined he is to get things done, he has a love of design, and I didn't realise he's handy on the tools too. He was responsible for designing and renovating Bottle & Thyme, turning an old bank into a restaurant, and designing their most recent bar renovation in addition to the interior furniture. "Quite a few customers have asked who designed the interiors at Bottle & Thyme? I explained that it was me that put the style together," Gavin says. "I love design, how things look and feel, so being able to marry this with the physical construction of cabinets for kitchens etc., is great fun for me."

What struck me about the new business, talking to Gavin, was the investment they've made.

With two units set up in Hasland, fitted out the machinery and tools needed to do the job, including a dedicated spray shop, he already has a small team to put together the quality, bespoke units for customers. The young team is a mix of experienced joiners, an apprentice, electricians, plumbers, decorators, all the trades needed to complete a job. Gavin is on hand to ensure everything is finished to the quality required.

Gavin's phone was full of pictures, and I was impressed with what he was doing. The problem was every time he showed me an image, I thought, 'oh, we could do with that. This could be an expensive chat! As I write, the website is on the 'to do list', but the social media for @otiinteriors on Facebook and Instagram is growing rapidly.

"We create a solution that works for you and your family. Our designs are built around your lifestyle and how you use the space. For instance, our most recent design featured a 'breakfast cupboard'; everything needed to start the day right is in one place. We installed vertical storage for baking trays etc., ovens were at a safe height away from the younger family members, and the whole space was fit for the customer's family," Gavin explained.

The process starts with a chat and pencil sketches.

Designs are drawn up using realistic 3D renders, and every aspect is shown to customers visually before any work begins. "Our designs are not cheap," Gavin adds. "We want them to be a longterm investment. Our units are manufactured with a ten-year guarantee. We use full oak internal shelving and carcasses, the gaps between units, doors and drawers will remain constant, and our drawer rails will take an 80kg load. We have a lovely range of timeless heritage colours that we use to spray that will outlive fashion trends. The finer detail is so important to us."

It’s not just kitchens though, OTI Interiors can build bespoke solutions for bedrooms, bathrooms, storage areas, such as under stairs, pantries etc. They can do utility rooms, boot rooms, book shelving, alcove shelving and storage, bespoke units for TVs for instance for those awkward corners - in fact, anything that needs a cabinet!

So far, the plan looks like an investment that's paying off, the order book is filling up, and this is just from recommendations. And what of Bottle & Thyme, I hear you ask?

They have weathered the COVID storm which has enabled them to review their menu, something they've wanting to do for a while. They are now offering smaller plates that feature seasonal foods, changing each month around what's available, a much more sustainable way to work and fingers crossed, I'll be telling you more about this in a future edition. Yum yum!

This is a long-term plan that is already delivering high-end kitchens. "What makes us different from major manufacturers is that we aren't tied down to specific sizes of unit, we don't have to use filler panels in your run of kitchen units, we can make the units to fit the space or incorporate creative storage solutions.

Tools with a mission Words: Tools with a mission

T

ools with a Mission is a Christian charity enabling people to earn a living and support themselves and their families. In many countries people have few skills, little education and no means of earning a living. A switch from aid dependency to self-sufficiency is impossible without help.

TWAM started 30 years ago and has been operating in the Chesterfield area since 2015.It has provided that help of becoming self-sufficient by collecting and refurbishing tools and equipment no longer required in the UK and sending them overseas.

Through a team of volunteers in Chesterfield started by the late David Sanderson through St Thomas’s in Brampton we manage to send up to four full vans a year of tools and equipment to help transform many lives.

The tools are sent to Coventry for refurbishment and then onto Ipswich for kitting as we send

complete trade kits, such as groundworkers, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, mechanics etc.

We also send out sewing and knitting machines and haberdashery packs to help women set up tailoring businesses.

TWAM as whole shipped over 2500 sewing machines in 2021 Our requests for tools come through our partner organisations in Africa which also provide the training and mentoring to the people so the tools can be used effectively in the learning of the many trades which become their lifelines.

So we encourage you all to look in your sheds and under the stairs to see if you have anything that you no longer use but could transform a life in Africa.

I

t’s that time of year again. Even if you’re not going through the process yourself, you probably either know someone in your family who is, or you remember your own experience of it many moons ago. Making the leap to your next step post-18, be it university, an apprenticeship or full-time employment, is terrifying, but also very exciting. Wishing to study the English language further, I have applied to university. Luckily, I have been accepted by all 5 of the universities I applied to, on the condition that I obtain certain A-Level grades, which, I should achieve with some dedicated revision and intense completing of past papers. Whilst the primary focus is on gaining a new lease of independence when going away to university, some of the more worrying feelings that come with the process are often overlooked. By writing this, I hope to alleviate some of the stress that any fellow applicant reading is Feeling. To let you know that you are not alone in your thoughts, or if you’ve long since completed your degree, you’ll hopefully be able to read this with sympathy as, looking back on your own experience with uni, you remember feeling the same.

packet food or blowing all my student loans on takeaways. I am sure certain that many others will have this same anxiety, so rest assured, if you perfect a selection of classic dishes, you’ll be absolutely fine, and then you can practise even more meals with your flatmates once you get there.

My biggest concern is not whether I’ll get the grades, nor is it whether I’ll make friends; it’s the fact I’ll have to cook for myself.

Growing up an only child, I’ll admit it, I’ve been indulged. Every night, my tea is on the table (which at least I have set - my one chore) and I’ve never questioned it. But soon, all that is going to change. Currently, my specialities are microwaveable rice in a packet, pasta with a microwaveable sauce or anything you can shove in the oven on a tray with chips. If I don’t start practising, it will be a shock to the system when I’ve exhausted all my culinary delights two weeks in. Thankfully, my mum has offered to give me some tips and tricks over the next few months and during the summer before I go, to ensure that I won’t just be living off

So, whether you’re going off to university like me, taking a gap year, starting an apprenticeship or full-time employment, I wish you the best of luck in the summer exams and I hope when you finally take that next step, it brings you lots of friendships and exciting opportunities.

Another thing I’ve been pushing to the back of my mind is how to handle my finances.

Don’t even talk to me about how much I spent on a meal last night - all I’m saying is my bank account was groaning. In my defence, it is pretty hard to know exactly how much is too much for a sandwich if you’ve never had to portion your money like me. Realising you’re going to have to be more restrained with your money to ensure it doesn’t all run out after a month is a hard fact to face, but I’m sure there must be hundreds of student finance tracker apps to help you manage your money wisely. Suppose your university takes your accommodation money out automatically. In that case, this will alleviate a bit of stress as you won’t have to worry about getting it paid in time, but it will still be crucial to make sure you do have the funds available to pay for it.

SNAILS & TRAILS Words & Images: Jude South

S

41 and S40 Local Magazine’s are always keen to support the future generation of writers and journalists.

So, when Jude South (aged 14) contacted us and asked us if he could write a historic piece on of his favourite sculptures in Chesterfield, naturally, we said YES!

I love these sculptures because it makes me think of the miners who sadly died and the hardship and suffering their remaining family members have faced daily. It’s a piece of physical history that will be here for generations.

The area behind Chesterfield Train station where The Snail stands tall and proud was once home to several factories.

Chesterfield has some wonderful art sculptures, some of which are steeped in local history. I want to share two of my favourites with you lovely readers.

Markham Colliery Mining Memorial Trail The Markham Colliery Memorial trail is a social action project that was set up to commemorate the 106 miners who lost their lives in the disasters of 1937, 1938 and 1973. The sculptures designed by Stephen Broadbent, represent the sites strong heritage and the journey the miners took from their homes to the pit. Each sculpture has metal medals attached displaying information about the miners such as their names, ages and roles. The 106 sculptural figures are part of the ‘walking together’ trail that sees them heading off to work, never to return home. The trail starts in the village of Duckmanton and ends at the former pit head of the Markham Colliery.

The Memorial was planned, fundraised and realised thanks to the Memorial Vale Heritage Group. The 25 members are made up of volunteer historians, relatives of the lost miners and local residents. We have these amazing individuals and the businesses that supported them financially to thank for this wonderful piece of art.

The Snail

The factories stopped production in the 1990’s and a housing estate was built. Fast forward a few years and The Snail joined the estate, slowly!

The artist behind the sculpture, Liz Lemon, took inspiration from the land and its industrial history. The land is known for its gastropod and Goniatite fossils. Pretty cool!

The Snail sculpture stands at a staggering 25 feet high. At night you can see the magnificent sculpture light up with blue and green fibre optic lights which are built in.

The metal used to make the spiral form was created from many sections of stainless steel that vary in thickness, just like the factories used that once stood on this historic site.

I love this piece because it represents the site and it’s past perfectly. Plus, it lights up at night which is very cool!

Both The Snail and the Markham Colliery Memorial Trail are amazing examples that art and love, when combined, can make something beautiful Thanks for taking the time to read my article.

T

he first part of this article concerns information about nutrition as it is paramount in the elderly and their digestion needs to ensure wellbeing.

The stomach allows us to eat at regular intervals.

With age, it cannot accommodate as much food, because its wall loses elasticity.

Changes to the gastrointestinal tract due to ageing are well known. How they affect you will be individual to you, the following are only guidelines.

There is evidence that older people are more prone to lactose intolerance, also certain harmful bacteria that reside in the small intestine have been shown to increase as we age, leading to bloating, pain and decreased absorption of calcium, folic acid and iron.

Age-related shrinkage of the facial bones and reduction in bone calcium content cause a slow erosion of the tooth sockets, leading to gum recession and an increased risk of root decay.

People who have poorly fitting dentures may find chewing difficult and eat less becoming malnourished. Alternatively, they may choose highly refined, easy-to-chew foods, thereby consuming less dietary fibre; this will affect their bowel function and may cause problems such as constipation.

People aged 70 years and over, produce less saliva than younger people, as the saliva production decreases as an adverse effect of medication (those who are taking more than four prescription drugs per day), from diseases such as diabetes. It is more likely to occur in the following medications for blood pressure, diuretics, antibiotics, bronchodilators and certain antidepressants.

With age, the muscular contractions that initiate swallowing slow down, This may lead to swallowing difficulties which can increase the risk of choking and the feeling that food is stuck in the throat. Many elderly people aged 75 years and over experience this.

In general, the motor function of the gastrointestinal tract is well preserved in healthy older people but some suffer from reflux and heartburn.

There is an age-related slowing down of the large bowel and activity of the colon, which is associated with delay in colonic transit of waste, leading to constipation.

Things to consider: • In older people, reduced appetite and food intake may lead to weight loss and malnutrition Small meals taken regularly help to prevent some of the problems.

Dry mouth is common in older people and may be a side-effect of a range of drugs.

• Significant changes in gut microbe populations that occur with age increase the risk of bacterial infection, Natural yoghurt or probiotics can provide a counterbalance.

• If you have any significant changes in your bowel or bladder routines seek advice from a pharmacist or your GP. • A regular dental check-up can help to identify potential problems early.

• One of the most important things we can do as we age is to ensure good dietary intake.

Important nutrients include protein, omega-3 fatty acids, dietary fibre, vitamins B6, B12 and E, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. See a dietician for advice your GP can arrange this.

• Base your meals on starchy foods rather than sugar-based foods.

• Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, drink 6 cups /mugs of fluid per day.

• Eat more fish – including a portion of oily fish each week.

Cut down on saturated fat and sugar Eat less salt – no more than 6g a day for adults try using herbs as an alternative, seek help.

M

id-March onwards is the time to plant out potatoes, assuming that the weather is not too cold. If frost is forecast, simply delay the planting until it is over. Once the foliage starts to show, be prepared to cover it if a frost is forecast; most varieties will recover from a light frost but may be weakened, affecting the yield. The cover can be as simple as a sheet of newspaper – anything as long as the foliage isn't directly exposed to the freezing air will usually be fine at this time of year.

Plant onion sets and shallots. Birds sometimes think the tips are worms and pull them up; just push them back if this happens. To discourage the birds, run a few lines of black thread tightly over the bed.

Give perennial herbs a good tidy up, rosemary and sage can often do with a trim now and you can divide and replant clumps of chives and mint also. It is time to buy and plant out young plants of thyme, sage and rosemary.

If the weather is warm the lawn will start to grow, so if there's a dry day give it a cut with the blades set fairly high. Petrol mowers can usually cope with longer, wetter grass but electrics may struggle, so try not to ever let it get too long.

In March, seeds to sow indoors include tomatoes, aubergines, peppers, broccoli, calabrese, lettuce, Brussel sprouts, summer cabbage and try growing beetroot in clusters in modules.

Weeds will start into growth, so try to prevent them getting hold by regular weeding. At the same time you can prepare beds by lightly digging them over, incorporating any old compost you have.

Deadhead daffodils, letting the foliage die down naturally, then removing it when it starts to turn yellow. This is when the bulb's reserves of energy are restored, and it prepares for next year - tying it up prevents this happening efficiently and doesn't look nice.

There will be a lot more heat in the sun, so open greenhouse and conservatory doors if you have seedlings in them, so they don’t overheat. But clear sunny days often mean clear, chilly nights, so remember to close them again.

The winter, so far, has been kind to slugs and snails, so expect there to be lots this year. As it gets milder they will start to appear in the garden, so be prepared to combat them. There are lots of possible solutions (pellets, beer traps, and copper bands) but, whatever you do, you'll never entirely be rid of them, so concentrate your efforts on precious plants and small areas.

Plants in containers will appreciate a top dressing. Carefully remove an inch or so of soil and replace it with a new one suitable for containers; it might seem unnecessary to use different sorts of composts for different places but, especially with pots, the right kind makes a big difference.

We’ve now reached the time when the gardening year traditionally starts to get going, so there’s lots to do; keeping on top of it all is the key to success. However, it can be weather dependent - never worry if you can’t do something at the exact time columns like this say you should; relaxing and enjoying it is far more important; get round to things when you can. If you’re trying to get your children interested in gardening then all your good work could be undone by dragging them out into the cold and wet for several hours to do something that could well wait for a week or two.

elcome back my fellow Spireites. So, who saw that coming!?! Still think promotion is on the cards?

Who would have guessed James Rowe would end up suspended and then agreeing with the club to “terminate” his contract “with immediate effect by mutual consent” when he walked out down in London against the kings of European football last month, in the FA cup!?! Talk about the highs and lows of this beautiful game, in such a small time frame too. James was only the manager for 15 months or so, but in that time he; rescued the club from the depths of despair, brought the bounce back to the stands, rebuilt bridges with the fans, became the manager of a non-league club that actually scored against Chelsea FC. Also, let's not forget, he reached the top of the league...and the next thing, he's gone! But why?

Well, at the time of writing no-one officially knows, 'pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct’, is the official line. With a big sigh and a heavy heart, let's ask the obvious question, are we still on track for league 2 promotion?

So who stepped up?

After all the speculation Paul Cook has returned to Chesterfield FC to hopefully finish what he started 10 years ago, to gain promotion to the Championship - "Hopefully we can go up and go up again and restore the club to a place where I left it.” Paul was the 36th Chesterfield manager and now becomes the 45th with his reprisal.

You can't fail to be happy (well I certainly am) with his return and he's eagerness to continue where he left off, judging by his first interview with the club. Speaking of his “love” for the club, Cookie said he'd continued to follow us in the league, even after he departed. Whilst at Portsmouth and the following clubs he managed, and promoted, he kept a sad eye on Chesterfields decline down the leagues to where we inevitably crash landed in the National League. Now though, he can retake the reins and complete what Rowe/Webb started this season.

Chesterfield FC holds a special place for Paul as he admitted in his returning interview with the club.

"My love for Chesterfield is purely on the basis of what they gave me so it is a perfect opportunity for me.” Now, seven years on Paul becomes one of the few CFC managers to return as manager for a second stint. Others include John Sheridan and John Duncan. This time round he will be without Richardson by his side, he stayed on at Wigan Athletic when Cook left. Danny Webb will continue in his assistant role alongside Cook.

"I would not have dropped out of the Football League for any other team in the Conference."

Recent results.

After the cup game against Chelsea, Chesterfield returned to the bread and butter of league footy and travelled back down south, this time against Barnet. The Spireites continued to score, four in fact, to secure all three points for the blues.

Asante, too, bagged another to get on the score sheet again following on from his goal against Chelsea seven days earlier. Tshimanga also netted two, and King sealed the win in the 90th minute with the fourth.

Next up, that away game with Maidenhead United three days later where, even though Tshimanga and King scored again, Chesterfield lost 3-2.

After this, on the 22 January Chesterfield hosted Aldershot at home which ended goalless. This was the first 0-0 result of the Spireites' season under Rowe. After this game the boss was very vocal in his post match interview on the state of the pitch at the Technique Stadium not helping with the result. That was the last game that James Rowe managed for the club as, two days later, he was suspended for misconduct allegations.

Rowe's right hand man, Danny Webb was in charge for the next away game against Eastleigh which was a featured live game on BT Sports.

Personally the match was not the greatest football match ever to be televised, but that all changed in the 89th minute when Curtis Weston volleyed home a stunning strike from outside the box, flying like a missile into the back of the net leaving everyone speechless. Any premier league striker would be happy to claim that goal let me tell you!

The game, which didn't kick off until 5.20pm as we were on the telly box, saw Chesterfield dropped down to 6th in the league due to other promotion chasing teams kicking off at 3pm who all went on to win. But come the 90th minute we were back into second place with two games in hand.

The Dagenham and Redbridge game was the first game without Rowe and Danny Webb took charge for the home tie again. Keeping some structure and belief in the existing squad to continue the momentum to fight for promotion is paramount now until we secure our next gaffer, but what does the future hold? Right now, as a Spireite, it's quite daunting given the promising road we were on just a couple of weeks ago when everything seemed to be on track. Let's just remember though that the whole set up at the club is still more stable since the Community Trust took over in 2020. So that's a good place to remain hopeful and to rebuild. Trust the Trust. Last up, unfortunately our goal scoring machine Tshimanga, our top scorer, is now out due to injury, wishing him a speedy recovery.
