Castle Garden Clean Up

It was a rather interesting event not because the event was too interesting but more of the fact that most of the Key Clubbers attending weren't dressed for the occasion. For the Castle Cleanup which is essentially spring clean up but with a bigger building, we raked, shanked and weeded until noon. We also re-planted some plants and replaced some flower beds. I had a bee every now and then come around and getting myself stuck on thorns every once in a while. We also got provided refreshments and tools to aid us in cleaning up the Castle. By the time we left, I was covered in dirt and also soaking in the rain. Besides that we had a good time and that's all that really matters.

Ronald McDonald House Attending Ronald McDonald House for the month of May was one of the most fun out of all the ones I went to. For this event, we cooked dinner for the families and we finished quite early, so after we finished cooking everything, we were able to just sit there and relax, beside us was another group of people who baked some treats and they offered us some, which was like a rewarding treat after we finished cooking. It was really heartwarming seeing everyone come in and thank us for the food that we prepared for them. But, the one thing that stuck out to me during this event was when two kids came in and they were in awe with all the food presented upon them. They screamed “look at all this food” to each other and then hearing their soft voices coming to thank us, that was such a great feeling seeing how happy they were!

Tourette Walk The Tourette’s walk took place in corona park to help advocate for awareness by gathering groups of people with the same goal. From the young to the elderly, everyone radiated positive energy from the hopes of making a change. There were music, food, and most importantly, the support of others nearby that kept me going through the three mile walk. By the end, I felt tired yet extremely proud that I was able to take part of this event. I was greeted by those who had completed the walk as well and received a gold medal as a reward. Even though commuting back home took another hour, I do not regret the experience.

Car Wash Fundraiser

The car wash was an amazing experience. It was my first one and it was really fun. I loved holding the sign, spraying my friends with water but still getting the work done. There was also many generous people who have donations without getting their car washed. In the end, the community and setting was great for a wonderful car wash.

Passport to Taiwan

Passport to Taiwan Passport to Taiwan was probably one of the most fun key club events I went to this year. Bayside hs was in charge of a Taiwanese noodle stall, Although helping out with pouring those noodle in a cup in almost 85 degrees would seem like a lot of torture, it really wasn't lol. The best part of this event was getting to visit all the multiple stalls in the park that day. We all were given pamphlets that told us where each specific place was and the food in all the ones that I went to was very good. Overall, it was very exciting. I will, for sure, help out next year too !!

AIDS Walk

The AIDS Walk was in short, a great experience for me as I got to meet new people and talk to them. At first, I made small talk and tagged along with a group of guys though I didnèt intend to do so from the beginning. We walked to the train station and got on the 7 Train when I noticed the AIDS Walk poster pasted onto the subway train. At that moment, I’d realized how big this event really was and we weren’t just walk for Key Club, we were supporting many others. We got off the train after what felt like forever and walked all the way to central park where they were hosting the walk.

When we arrived there were snacks and drinks for us since we were going to be walking for 6 miles. We signed out names on the poster for the walk, waited for everybody to get ready and began walking. During the start of the walk I had already lost my group of people which was Division 8 and asked someone if they knew where the D8 sign was. The person said no but asked me if I wanted to walk with them since my group was lost in the crowd. And so thus began my 6-mile journey AIDS Walk.

Divisional May divisional was the first divisional that I attended as a board member.

There were guest speakers from circle-k that talked about how key club will be like in college. Hearing them talk about their experience makes me want to stay connected with key club and join circle-k after high school. Overall, I had a good time connecting with other key-clubbers from division 8 and I’m looking forward to our next divisional.
