editor’s note
The 1st issue of Eine Schöne Geschichte! celebrates the creatives and brands that came together and collaborated on this magazine. Eine Schöne Geschichte! means a beautiful story, we want to collaborate with our artists to bring stories to life and inspire our readers. The contributors follow a story line about an evil mother who follows her runaway daughters into a forest. The magazine features editorials and interviews that portray our vision behind this issue. We had many extraordinary submissions for our new magazine, and we loved going through each application. After carefully discussing and browsing we chose individuals from the following category: Styling, Makeup, Photography, Writing and Editing. We loved working with everyone on the team whether it was providing assistance, mentorship or advice. We would also like to say a huge thank you to the brands that reached out to us and collaborated with our creatives. They understood our initiative and were on board giving their full support. We loved bringing upcoming talent and the futures of creativity to the forefront of our reader. Our issue of is packed with magnificent spreads from different creatives. Our layout editor was inspired by BFC’s New Wave Creative Stephen Tayo and created layouts in the style of his work. This exciting volume is a sensational blend of art, fashion, literature, and beauty. We are very proud of our creatives who have produced such amazing work. After weeks of hard work, we present you the 1st issue Eine Schöne Geschichte!
the plague tha Once upon a time there lived two sisters, lily and Lucy in a faraway village. Born from the same mother but different father. Having been neglected by their mother ever since they were young, the sisters shared an undeniable bond. One day, the sisters went out for a walk by the river. Lily slipped in the river and being unable to swim, she was struggling to get out. Lucy looked around frantically to find something that Lily could grab onto to pull her back up. Not finding anything, she rushed back to try and get Lily out of there herself. As Lucy grasped Lily’s hand, both of them felt a burning sensation within them. Suddenly a patch of green land grew under Lily and lifted her up. Both sisters stared at each other in bewilderment wondering what they had just witnessed. Their mother had been watching everything from behind the trees and was shocked to see that the very power she had been searching for many so years, had been in her own daughters this whole time. She quickly returned home to find the book about that power that would teach her how to make it her own. Their mother already had the evil power to consume the soul of everything at her will, but she still wasn’t satisfied. Lily and Lucy, unaware that their mother had already seen their power, decided to keep it a secret from her. They knew their mother had obsessed over this power and were afraid of what she would do if she were to find out. A few weeks had passed since the incident and the sisters would secretly practise their powers at night. However, they only managed to grow a few flowers, a few leaves and nothing more. They wondered why they couldn’t create anything bigger like last time no matter how hard they tried or concentrated. They decided to go to lake again to see if that would make a difference. Once it was dark and they were sure there mother would be asleep they snuck out of the house to go to the lake. They sat there holding hands thinking long and hard about growing a patch of land. Unfortunately to their dismay, nothing happened. They agreed to come again tomorrow night and rushed to get home before their mother awoke. When they reached home, they heard some strange noises coming from their mother’s room. Curious, both sisters peeked into the slightly agape door and were horrified to see their mother sitting in the middle of the room surrounded by a circle of dead crushed flowers chanting something in an unfamiliar language. The girls looked at each other with terror in their eyes. Their mother had known all this time and was secretly practising the rituals to perfect for when she would actually use it. Lily recognized the book in their mother’s hand and had come across it before. She remembered reading something about their power and that the only way someone could acquire them was during a full moon through sacrificing the people who had already possessed them. The sisters, fearing for their safety decided to run away. The next day, after their mother had left, the girls snuck into her room to find the book. They hoped to find some clues about growing their power so that they could defend themselves when it came to that. They read about a magical forest that was home to fairies whose responsibility was to teach the wielders of their power. They found a map of how to get to the forest, which they ripped out of the book. The sisters decided to run away to the forest in order to protect themselves to get help.
at grew flowers When their mother returned, she noticed the girls hadn’t completed their daily tasks and chores. When there was no response to her yelling their names, she went to find them in their rooms. As she furiously flung their door open, she was startled to see they weren’t there. Making sense of the situation, she hurried to her room, to find the book out of place to where she left it, with a page ripped out. She threw the book and yelled in frustration. She had been too careless and now the girls, the power that she wanted were both gone. She set out immediately to follow the girls as there were only 5 days left till the full moon. Luckily for the girls the forest wasn’t that far from where they lived but was hidden from plain sight. The girls managed to get there the next day by sunrise. They knew they had entered the forest as they could feel the air around them change. The forest felt alive, it was as if the wind was speaking to them. They were in the forest but had no idea where they could meet the fairies. As they went further in, they reached a field and they saw someone sitting there. The fairy looked up and smiled warmly at them. She welcomed them and introduced herself as Rose. She told Lucy and Lily that the wind had told her everything about their powers awakening and that she was expecting their arrival. Rose’s face suddenly turned dark as she informed the sisters that their mother was also on her way there and that they only had 4 days left before the full moon. After resting for a bit, the girls met with Rose so she could teach them about their power. The reason why their power was so strong when it came to help Lily was because there was a strong desire, a determined mind and a strong- willed heart. Rose explained that that’s how the power works and that it can forcefully be taken through the ritual. Rose held both of their hands and decided to give them a boost in their power to help them get started. Two days had passed, and the sisters had made tremendous progress. They learned to use nature around them to help use their power for a long period of time. Rose would drop by from time to time to warn Lucy and Lily of their mothers’ whereabouts. The winds and lands were delaying their mother’s arrival, but they could no longer do so because of their mothers’ power to consume souls. She had been killing the grass and leaves and the other fairies couldn’t grow more land that quickly. There wasn’t that long left till there mother reached them. With only 2 days left till the full moon, she had been raging to get there in time. The sisters and Rose had decided to come up with a plan for their mother. The time came where their mother had reached. She stood outside the forest and yelled Lucy and Lily’s name. She threatened that if they wouldn’t come out, she would forcefully bring them back and consume the fairies’ soul. However, she had underestimated her daughters and overlooked the possibility of them developing their powers. The sisters, now more confident in themselves, in each and in their powers, looked at their mother and called her forward. As she came closer, they opened the land beneath her feet causing her to fall inside. The sisters closed the land to prevent their mother from escaping. They blossomed a single flower on top to remind them and others that all bad things come to an end. The sisters hugged each other in joy. Their lives had been saved and their mother had stopped wreaking havoc on nature. The fairies thanked them for their help and begged them to stay in the forest to which the girls happily agreed. Lucy and Lily were also very grateful to the fairies and had finally found a sense of family and a home they longed for so long.

This is why we at Eine Schöne Geschicte! reached out to MAC in hopes for a successful collaboration. MAC commissioned our selected photographers and makeup artists to use their products in order to create a series of photographs to be used for this month’s issue. We would like to say a huge thank you to the team at Mac for understanding our mission statement and providing upcoming talent with the opportunity to create imagery supported by the brand. MAC prides itself in being a makeup brand that welcomes out of the box looks. Bold colour choices, unique makeup trends and creativity is what MAC is all about. We decided MAC would be the perfect Makeup Brand to collaborate with for this particular issue with a theme of folklore. Our commissioned makeup artists were sent a kit from MAC equipped with makeup full of colour from eyeshadow palettes to lipsticks. Our artists were excited just as much as we were to experiment with the makeup and create amazing looks!

We couldn’t be prouder of the exceptional looks each artist created. They experienced first-hand what it was like to conceptualise ideas and bring them life within a day. eine schone geschicte introduces ruqayyah ali Ruqayyah Ali was chosen as the photographer to shoot this issue. We picked her from hundreds of submissions because of her style of photography and experimental style. We spoke to Ali about her thoughts on photography, sustainability and fashion. What influences your work?
Why fashion photography?
Everything. When working, I like to follow a theme or concept. That way, researching about the theme makes it easier for me to form an idea of how I want to shoot and what I need to learn before the shoot. For this theme of folklore/ fairy-tale, I had the idea of shooting in a field of flowers right after reading the story. I also wanted the photos to have a dreamy effect, so I learned how to create that effect and even searched up possible shoot locations.
I love fashion photography because it doesn’t limit you. You can do anything with it, in any way and it would turn out amazing. It could be a simple dress in a plain background, or it could be an over-the-top outfit in a crazy location. I also love working with a team. Working alongside the stylists, makeup artists and designers is so amazing because we see so many different visions come together to create one photo.
How did you find it working on this project? It was amazing. I’ve never done a shoot that follows a storyline, so it was a great experience. We planned out the moments we wanted to capture in the story and picked out days to do the shoot. I worked alongside the team to get everything ready in a sustainable way. I loved how everyone around me was like me, looking for an opportunity to step into the industry. It was inspiring and made me feel more motivated and determined.
How did you incorporate sustainability into your work? Sustainability is such an important thing. It isn’t something only Gen z’s should care about. All outfits used in the photoshoot were either owned by the models, me or the stylist. We didn’t buy any new clothes and any additional changes needed in the dresses, we used scraps of old fabric. For the props, we used artificial flowers that were borrowed from a flower artist known by the creative director. Any real flowers used, we dried them up and scanned them in created edits using them.
What input did you have to the story? I wanted to leave the ending ambiguous. The story is really well written, and the reader knows what happens but doesn’t see it happen through the photos. I wanted to reader to create their own ending for the sisters. They know that the sisters are happy, but the readers can imagine that happy ending in any way they want. What advice would you have for aspiring photographers? Just constantly keep shooting and being experimental with their photography. When out with family or friends or even going out with the purpose to shoot is great because you become more confident in not only in your work but also yourself. And always say yes to opportunities, you never know which one of your works gets noticed.
What are your goals as a photographer? I want to move forward. I’m grateful to Eine Schöne Geschicte for providing me this opportunity, a stepping stool into the industry and I don’t want to let go. I was able to meet so many amazing people while shooting and I hope to work with them again in the future. I want to keep finding work and becoming better.
