YOUTH IS OUR PRIDE
Founder Zoh P Mashabane Every 16th of June, South Africans unite to commemorate and celebrate the many courageous children of this country. In 1976 the streets of Soweto ran red, but bravery and determination effected a tsunami of change, the waves of which are still felt, seen and heard to this very day.
You should decide whether you intend to live within the status quo or you want to challenge it. Either one you choose, remember that it is your decision and not anyone else

WHAT COMES TO MIND?
Anelile Dlamini-Gibixego
When we think of 16 June, what comes to mind? For some, it is a holiday so there is no school or work. For others who work over holidays think about the double pay. Many think about the 1976 June 16 riots in Soweto where the youth marched against the apartheid education regime. Others, are not aware of the significance and the importance of the day. Many of us will also enjoy watching iconic early 90s movie Sarafina and find some new perspective on how to apply those lessons to modern day life.

THE YOUTH OF 1976 The youth of 1976 are now older citizens and are tired. They have lived through apartheid and have seen freedom and now weep at the look of the youth of today. The youth of 2022 faces many challenges, unemployment (over 40% of youth are not in employment or education or training), gender based violence and mental health of the youth have deteriorated.
What does June 16 mean for them? The fighting spirit is definitely within them, between the revolutionary Fees Must Fall movement and the ongoing calling out ill behavior online and cancelling artists. The youth of 2022 is filled with the fighting spirit, yet, they are met with minimal positive outcomes.
Perhaps in the dire state that the country is in, we all must take the opportunity to take a different action. As a magazine that profiles businesses and their products. We have a responsibility to keep finding raw youth talent and profile them. They must be a priority for training, support and exposure.
