Since its opening in 1935, Merewether baths has remained the largest ocean baths complex in the southern hemisphere and one of Newcastle’s most cherished features. Tip: If you’re up for a challenge, try for a couple of laps on “The Stairs” leading from the baths to the carpark.

Constructed in WW1, Newcastle Ocean Baths with the Art Deco Pavillion as well as the Canoe pool next door, are also a popular choice for all ages

Bogey Hole - Newcastle’s best kept secret

The Bogey Hole was hand-hewn out of a rock platform by convicts for Major James Morisset, in 1819 for his personal use

Glenrock Lagoon

Glenrock State Conversation Area is a popular option for mountain biking, hiking, hang gliding and fishing. The Yuelarbah Trail is a popular 5km return, pedestrian only option, bypassing two waterfalls on the way to Leichardt’s lookout

Anzac Walk

Officially opened in 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing in Gallipoli The walkway lists the names of 11,000 names of local men and women who served in World War 1 The 160-metre-long bridge is also attributes Newcastle’s history of steel making and was built with 64 tonnes of stainless steel
