Philanthropy is a popular venture with small businesses and large corporations alike.

Companies that work with charities and help their communities receive more approval from their peers. In addition, philanthropy has lucrative tax benefits that can save your business a lot in overhead costs.

But philanthropy doesn’t have to be just something you do as part of your employee handbook. There are ways to integrate it into your day-to-day work, so your employees can participate consistently.

These are some ways to bring philanthropy into the core of your company culture.

Donate to nonprofits that need you You can partner up with community nonprofits for an ongoing relationship, or you can donate from a distance. Either way, supporting nonprofits is a great way to encourage community building.

If you want to encourage employee engagement, ask your employees about the nonprofits they care most about. You can even give them a chance to donate to the charity of their choice.

Use your leadership skills and influence to set the tone.

You can have the most generous and philanthropic company policies in the world, but it won’t matter if you aren’t demonstrating that you live by those rules.

Employees will judge you by your actions and attitude, not by the words you put on paper. It’s best to lead by example.

Some CEOs participate in charity runs each year, or they visit sick children in hospitals. Look for ways that you can get involved in your community.

Be mindful of who you work with.

The suppliers you use and the clients you work with matter just as much as the charities you donate to. You have the opportunity to seek out businesses that have strong codes of ethics to work with.

Whatever your niche, you can find like-minded businesses to work with and support. They’ll get a chance to support you in turn. All in all, you’ll foster a much more ethics-focused company culture.
