Ryan Gustin Penn State
Born November 8, 2002, in Rochester, New York, Ryan Gustin is a vibrant example of passion and dedication to engineering and community service. Currently, a Civil Engineering student at Penn State, Ryan Gustin Penn State has continuously demonstrated leadership and a commitment to helping others from his early days in Penfield, NY. He began his academic journey at Plank Road North Elementary in Webster, NY, where he participated in sports like football, basketball, and baseball. He developed an early interest in technology through Lego robotics. This early engagement with problem-solving and design laid a strong foundation for his future endeavors in engineering. His educational path continued at McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester. Here, he learned the importance of being a "man for others," a principle that profoundly influenced his activities and projects. He led the school's robotics team, playing a pivotal role in designing a climbing mechanism that significantly boosted the team’s performance in competitions and earned them the "Excellence in Engineering" award. At high school, he also mastered using the school’s CNC Mill to create precise parts for various projects. He used his CAD skills to design and manufacture with materials such as aluminum and steel. These experiences enriched his technical skills and understanding of engineering principles' real-world applications. Aside from his academic and technical pursuits, he was active in the arts and athletics, participating in the school's stage crew, cross country, football, golf, and his musical journey as a violinist. In the community, he demonstrated a profound commitment to service. He volunteered significant time at the House of Mercy Homeless Shelter, the St. Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Ministry, and Maplewood Nursing Home, dedicating over 170 hours to older people, enriching his sense of social responsibility.
