10 YEARS OF GROWING WITH GRAND LIVING

PARTNERSHIP. DESIGN EVOLUTION.

For a decade, Ryan Companies and Grand Living Management have transformed the senior living landscape. Rooted in a vision of exceptional hospitality and service, the partnership focuses on excellence in design, adapting to diverse markets, and promoting successful age-in-community strategies. The partnership has relied on Ryan A+E to help achieve that vision in the design of its communities.

"Our shared values have been the foundation of a successful partnership. We share a passion to create a remarkable experience for every resident and guest. Inside our communities, you’ll discover every detail and space is designed with purpose. This collaboration continues to elevate the built environment and the personalized approach to each resident we serve."

- Steve Strom, VP of Real Estate Development - Senior Living, Ryan Companies

EXCELLENCE IN DESIGN

The partnership prioritizes high-end amenities like multiple dining options, a spa, and a theater to enhance resident engagement and well-being at Grand Living communities. Each community is tailored to its location while maintaining core elements like the "Sterling Touch" service program and world-class cuisine. For instance, the Lake Lorraine community maximizes its lakeside appeal with walking paths and resort-inspired architecture.

AGING IN COMMUNITY

The partnership offers various care options within Grand Living communities, allowing residents the freedom to choose a residence that adapts to their evolving needs and the ability to stay in that residence as their needs change. This promotes continuity and comfort without disruptive relocations. With 13 successful communities across four states and more in the pipeline, their shared vision has led to thriving senior living communities that set new standards of care.

GRAND LIVING AT THE GROVE

The 13th Grand Living community is scheduled to open in Austin, Texas in early 2025. Located in The Grove mixed-use development and inspired by the Texas Hill Country, it features luxurious design with limestone finishes, spacious balconies, and stunning skyline views. This project represents the ongoing success and innovation of the partnership in redefining senior living experiences. PROXIMITY TO LOCAL AMENITIES

DESIGN FOR LIFESTYLE

KEY CONSIDERATIONS FOR ACTIVE ADULT

As part of the ongoing demographic shift in the US, it's clear that having a range of housing options is important to the current and upcoming generations of older adults. One of those options that has continued to grow in popularity is Active Adult. Driven by independent, active older adults looking for a maintenance free lifestyle and increased social interaction, active adult communities continue to grow in popularity. A handful of things to consider for a successful active adult community include a walkable environment and proximity to neighborhood amenities as well as amenity spaces and programming that prioritize wellness, social interaction, and flexibility for a range of uses such as coworking.

DOES A WELLNESS CERTIFICATION “FITWEL” WITH YOUR SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY?

Designers and operators of senior living communities seek to offer residents the best quality of care, comfort, and lifestyle in their environment. To help organize and prioritize design strategies that address all these dimensions of well-being, emerging certification systems like Fitwel provide a framework to guide the implementation in design, construction, and operations. Wellness certifications on properties also help corporations "quantify the S", or Social dimension of their ESG certifications. Increased momentum for ESG

reporting from many of Ryan's partners has boosted interest in sustainability certifications, Fitwel and others. It is key to identify these goals early so the design team can identify the high-impact strategies to incorporate as they're forming the design. Ryan's Senior Living design team has in-house expertise in both WELL and Fitwel, and can provide preliminary feasibility and value reviews for projects to help teams decide whether a certification is a good fit.

PRESENTATION SESSION

A+E team members, Amy Sullivan (Architect) , Kaitlin Veenstra (Sustainability), and Lauren DePoint (Interior Design), presented at the 2024 Environments for Aging Conference on "Does a Wellness Certification “Fitwel” with Your Community?" Learn more on the presentation here

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is sustainability certification offered by the USGBC (United States Green Building Council). Wellbeing is addressed primarily through the Indoor Environmental Quality category and offerings for Innovation points with direct ties to WELL credits such as biophilia. LEED has a broader scope and also addresses a building's energy usage, water usage, and sourcing of materials.
