Many commonly prescribed medications are known to cause nutrient depletion. Nearly 50% of all adults take at least one prescription medication and many of these medications often lead to depletion of critical nutrients in the body.

Congratulations APPE Preceptor of the Year, Ed Strubel The Pharmacy Program at Manchester University College of Pharmacy, Natural, and Health Sciences awarded the first of our Preceptor of the Year awards this year. We had many nominations from our students and it was hard for our advisory council to pick the winners.

We are happy to acknowledge Ed Strubel from Parkview Hospital in Huntington as one of our APPE Preceptors of the Year. The student who nominated Ed wrote the following:

“I nominate Ed Strubel to receive APPE preceptor of the year. During my four weeks there, he set me up to round with the hospitalist and we would spend time after rounding to talk about any findings. Although it was a small hospital, with an average of about 6-8 patients per day, he managed to find teaching points either through the findings during rounding or from previous patients he remembers. He always found ways to help me expand my knowledge and included me in all activities that were going on in the pharmacy. He wasn’t just an awesome preceptor, he went above and beyond for everyone who worked in the pharmacy proves he is very deserving of this award!”

The winners were honored with a trophy and an 18 month membership to the Indiana Pharmacists Alliance. Additionally, their names were added to a permanent plaque that is displayed in the Experiential Education office. We would like to thank all of our preceptors for their hard work and dedication to our students. We truly appreciate all that you do!

Dr. Alvarado received the Oakdell Pharmacy “O” Award in 2012 and 2015, which signifies loyalty, leadership, and excellence in management. In addition, Dr. Alvarado was the recipient of the Texas Pharmacy Association 2013 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award, as well as, the University of the Incarnate Word, Feik School of Pharmacy 2013 APPE Preceptor of the Year Award. Performing the Test

The Pyrosate® kit is a rapid gel-clot test that contains a 2λ* endotoxin tube (PPC) matched to the sample (SPL) tube for each sensitivity.

This feature is unique to the Pyrosate assay. The endotoxin tube (PPC) assures that the sample does not interfere with the test, ruling out false negatives. Pyrosate is formulated to eliminate false positives due to (1g3)-ß-D-glucans. This endotoxin specific reagent does not require additional blocking buffers.

Reconstitution Pyrosate® is reconstituted directly with the sample by adding 0.5 mL to the sample tube (SPL). After approximately 60 seconds of gentle mixing, 0.25 mL is transferred to the endotoxin tube (PPC). The lot-specific incubation time at 37±1°C is given on the Certificate of Compliance.

Company Background KnowMyC2 was founded to help improve the efficiency of the retail pharmacy by helping to manage their Schedule II Controlled Substance Inventory. Product Overview A well run pharmacy will keep a log of its Schedule II Controlled Substance Dispensing History so that the exact count of all CII drugs on their shelves are accounted for. This is usually done with some sort of log, either paper binder or excel spreadsheet.

Some pharmacies do this voluntarily and for others it is required by state pharmacy law. The purpose of this log is so the pharmacist knows their controlled drug count 100% of the time.
