Director’s Message Welcome to the Experiential learning report 2018/2019. We are happy and grateful to God that we had the year wrapped in this exercise which is the outside classroom. The experiential learning program form a core in our curriculum at Mother Mary Junior Schools.

We are grateful to God and our parents for enabling us to have this project achieved this year.

Experiential Learning has four major objectives namely, exposure, mentorship, friendship building, research and fun. In building the tradition of excellence in life in our children, our promise is to produce confident, exposed, knowledgeable, aware persons with unquestionable integrity. The journey includes experiential learning which gives them emotional intelligence with ups their social and interactive quotient. We are very grateful for all those parents who take this external curriculum seriously and support it. The lasting memories will truly endear the children to you.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING REPORT 2019 It was another year and the theme of this year’s field experience was ‘’ The plight of the refugee children living in camps’.

This journey took our children through the districts of Maracha, Koboko and Yumbe.

The second leg of the field work took the learners to Nebbi and Zombo districts.

Why experiential Learning is a priority at Mother Mary Junior Schools.

The major aims of this vital learning process is to blend classroom theory with real life

situations in the community. We unpack theory to ensure that children have a lifelong knowledge.

Gone are the times when exposure was difficult because of the poor transport and communication. That is why we used to teach without taking the children to experience outside the classroom. The outside classroom gives our learners interaction with community leaders, civil servants and this is a way magnifies their interest in what they would like to be in their future lives. We are crafting dreams in through experiential learning.

When our learners leave the school compound for the field lessons, they bond. They enjoy the long drives, walk, talk and eat together. They, in so doing, build lasting memories and friendship. They bond and will stay connected throughout the ages. This is what makes Mother Mary Junior Schools, the school crafting dreams and building global leaders.

Building Mentorship

Our learners tour important places and interact with a wide spectrum of leaders. They ask questions and are happy to be associated with them. These interactions create lasting dreams and aspirations in these young minds and to us at Mother Mary Junior Schools, we want our learners to live their dreams.

Building Research capacities.

Our learners go to the field to dig out the unknown and confirm the known. They are usually equipped with research tools. They administer questionnaires ably and are improving on their report writing skills. This is very good to them because they will find it easier as they advance with their education. We are happy that we are building a strong foundation at the onset.

Today, many people hold degrees that are not theirs. Their dissertations are written by others for money. Mother Mary learners will create a difference, they are already being equipped with research methods and report writing skills.

Fun. We make our learners shade off hectic class environment through the experiential learning program. It is true, ‘work without play made Jack a dull boy’. We take our learners out for learning and fun (infotainment). They get entertained as they learn.

We are grateful to all the parents who take this as a very important exercise and encourage those who look at it as a waste of money not to deny their children these unforgettable memories. Life is a journey and we must see our learners grow through the lenses of the camera.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING REPORT 2018

Welcome to our second learning point, Experiential learning! At Mother Mary Junior School, we move from the classroom to the field to expose our children to the real world. We are creating a difference in the lives of our future global leaders in our quest for excellence.

We thank all the parents, guardians, caregivers, transporters, teachers and support staff who make our learning processes a success!

This year’s theme was ‘’ Blending the classroom with the community’’. The school was able to take the children to Arua aerodrome, Abi- Zonal Agricultural Research Institute (Abi-Zardi) and then the fun hours at the White Castle Hotel.

It is our belief that taking children from the experience in the class to the field is the best thing to actualize learning. How I wish as a child, I had such an experience, maybe I would have reached my dream.

We wish to most sincerely thank all the parents who take experiential learning seriously. Thank you for supporting our learners! You are aiding the work of our teachers.

Arua aerodrome, was a nice experience where many of our children dreamt of becoming pilots and the interesting discussions with the pilots was fantastic let alone the pictures!

The upper classes were able to make a learning venture through the Ajai Game reserve, Pawor, Wadelai, Packwach, Panyimur, Nebbi and back to Arua giving them the experience and feel of most of West Nile region.

Abi-Zardi.

Many children are born off the farm environment. Unlike us who pegged goat, grased cattle and swept chicken droppings from the kitchen and the like, many of our children are seeing chicken in cartoons, fridges and on plates. To feel how livestock and poultry is managed was a real full lesson. ‘’How does a cow give birth?’’

Keeping law and order! It is better to get it from the Horse’s mouth than anywhere else.

The historic eclipse site in Packwach is one tourist attraction for the district. The eclipse took place in …………………..and this saw people come from all over the world to witness this historic event that will happen again in…………………………….years. Understanding the solar system is possible with such visits.
