MESSAGE FROM CHAIRPERSON OF GOVERNING COUNCIL I convey our unreserved gratitude to the government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports for the relative peace in this region and to the development partners with whom they have collaborated to transform this college from what it was in the recent past. I thank the NTC Muni academic staff for exhibiting patriotism through their commendable academic job despite the challenging and wanting conditions of service. I call upon the staff to exert more effort in the field of research, knowledge generation and training for better academic delivery to the learners. The partnership with Enabel, Kyambogo University, ministry of education and sports should provide opportunities for improving the academic performance at NTC Muni.
Parents of the students are appreciated for supporting their children at the institution. The decision to invest in education is an informed one, notwithstanding the challenges in terms of cost. However, it is worth noting that since the creation of humankind, the most expensive commodity has consistently remained ignorance. True, education is costly, but it is worth bearing. The students who graduate from NTC Muni are reminded to pursue higher education to attain greater achievements in this world of stiff competition. Try to live safely, positively and constructively. Drania Rita Popo (Mrs.) Chairperson Governing Council.

WORD FROM THE EDITOR It is with profound satisfaction that you will peruse through the third edition of ‘The Light’ magazine of National Teachers College Muni. This is a sign that the community of NTC Muni is confident of publicizing the achievements in the college and sharing views with you. Light should not be hidden but be put on a stand for all to see.
Atiku Andrew Head of Communication Department.
To succeed in any vocation, profession or goal, one should love the task or career and then love colleagues both close and far. The staff and students of NTC Muni have proved their contentment to what God has given them to do as reflected through the articles in this magazine. Teachers in the profession and in training should speak out because they belong to a polished and enviable profession. They do not rust because they are consistently studying and learning as they prepare to teach.

Principal’s Reflective Message among the literature to read. Thirdly, this magazine reminds us that once one associates with useful literature he or she becomes useful to self and to society because of having useful and varied knowledge and hence being well informed. Remember the saying that knowledge is power. Whether one’s orientation is science or not. It is from being well informed that one becomes a leader and a communicator or otherwise.
At last the third edition of The Light is here! I am pleased and privileged to associate myself with this edition. I gives me pleasure to read it and I encourage everyone to read it. It provides useful information and lessons beneficial for one to live by. Here below are five lessons I draw from The Light. Indubitably, the first lesson is developing talent in writing skills. This then should remind us all that it is men and women of the history of this time and space who through their writing have transformed the world. Before human ideas were committed into writing, no fast and significant socioeconomic transformation had been realized by any developed nation today. Thanks to NTC Writers Club for soliciting articles for this magazine from staff, students and well-wishers. I encourage students and staff to take this path to be renowned publishers: on line and off line platforms. Secondly, the various articles provoke the reader to draw lessons of multifarious nature, ranging from knowledge to fun. As readers, when we internalize the lessons, particularly, those of enter education nature, it creates in us a condition of pleasure and satisfaction which enhances production of more white blood cells in our bodies hence the outcome is improved immunity. Upon this benefit, I encourage everyone to develop a reading culture in which this third edition of The Light is
Fourthly, once more, it is from the writing and reading culture that great men and women have emerged and by their varied talents and skills have greatly contributed to their societies and nations. They have done justice to their societies. I use the term justice in the context of Platonic Philosophy. I recall well very well that Plato, a prolific writer and a renowned Greek philosopher, defined justice as what an individual contributes to society. He did not take justice to mean the equitable sharing of something such as a cake. What one contributes to society is not simply forgotten by society or family. More so when it is recorded and published it endures. I encourage every member of NTC Muni to be just to the college, to our nation Uganda and to the entire world by personally contributing something so that it is reflected in the records. Justice can be exhibited in form of constructive ideas, discipline, academic excellence, subscription of articles to the college magazine, games and sports; name it. Finally, I conclude my contribution by saying that from this magazine we acquire three major levels of knowledge: namely, knowledge (information), understanding and wisdom. Wisdom is the highest level and form of knowledge. At this level one is able to offer solutions to complex issues and problems in the same way King Solomon did as we read from the Holy Bible. So, do not miss getting yourself a copy for yourself. Wish you the reader pleasant reading of this magazine; The Light. NTC Muni upholding “Hard Work for Excellence”.

MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL National Teachers College Muni has existed since 1985. It was founded on structures that were initially established for Muni Primary Teachers College which gradually phased out. At that time NTC Muni began with Diploma in Education Secondary (DES). The initial enrolment was 22 students of whom 2 were female and 20 were male. Later in 1991, Diploma in Education Primary (DEP) was brought on board to run concurrently with the DES programme until 1997 when the in-service programme for the DEP was introduced. Like the pioneer DES students, the DEP enrolment was also small. It had 69 students of whom 21 were female and 46 were male. Though the enrolment was small, the numbers have steadily increased over the years. Similarly, the college has progressed very well and her performance in the various fields is to be reckoned with. Mrs Aliwaru Daisy Deputy Principal NTC Muni
FARM LAND COMMITTEE National Teachers College Muni has coexisted with the surrounding community from the time the college started in 1985. The students of NTC Muni integrate with the community in various platforms through praying in nearby churches, buying from the local markets around, associating and identifying with each other during funerals and other functions. This contributes a lot to the physical and emotional development of the students of NTC Muni. However, while the community was enjoying the arena of liberty, they took advantage of the laxity of college administration that time and the vast land. Consequently, the surrounding community started cultivating college land and grazing their animals on it. The animals littered the compound for a long period of time. The portion of the college land near Muni Site Trading Centre was used as a market whereby Oluko Sub-country also built two pit latrines for the vendors. Toilets were also built on college land without seeking for permission from the college administrators. The college was able to recover the land through community social dialogue. We
learnt that social dialogue is an effective measure for conflict resolution and a channel for addressing persistent issues involving multiple stakeholders. We recommend that institutions use dialogue to communicate with the community and resolve emerging issues. Driwaru Juliet Awuta Chairperson Farm Land Committee NTC Muni

MESSAGE FROM COLLEGE REGISTRAR
Knowledge changes rapidly. In order to cope with the rapidity with which knowledge changes, the student who should succeed in life must seek to achieve academic excellence. Academic excellence is the consistent demonstrated ability to perform well in all academic activities, and achieve high grades. Academic excellence is much more than just making good grades. It actually involves knowing yourself, having conducive learning environment, good time management and appropriate relationships. Establish good study habits. Learn to use the library and use it often, since it offers a wealth of historical and current information which will greatly enhance your classroom experience and your general understanding perception and comprehension. The brilliant and hardworking students should be your friends. Hook up with the students who are the best, have the best practices and insights. This will be extremely valuable in your pursuit of excellence. Minimize your activities with peer students with whom you feel uncomfortable including practices and activities which may be harmful to your future. Endeavour to plan and learn good, efficient and effective management of your time and activities. Attend all lectures, seminars, workshops and other cultural activities whenever and wherever possible. Have at least eighty percent (80%) lecture attendance and lecture attendance should be taken with seriousness. Get involved in meaningful, established societal and club activities. Whenever possible assume membership and leadership roles in available committees, societies and clubs so as to develop qualities for social integration and interaction in order to fit successfully in future endeavors outside school setting as far as your professional relationships is concerned. Have good relationship with the lecturers. because they help in the achievement of one’s career. Students should have a good rapport with their lectuers. They give advice, share experiences and guide students. Students should be free to meet their lecturers for clarity when facing
difficulty in studies. Develop self-confidence, persistence and hard work with commitment. With every success, comes hard work. Without hard work you cannot achieve results. DEPARTMENT OF PROFESSIONAL STUDIES – Teaching is a noble course and call The obligation of the Teacher Trainer and Educator is not simply to train a teacher to teach but to produce an all-round professional teacher who is empowered with knowledge and skills to fit in the new and broader fronts and horizons in the area of education for the 21st century era. National Teachers’ College Muni is one of the key institutions in Uganda in promoting professionalism and improving the quality of education by focusing on a teacher trainee as an agent for change. This has been possible because the Department of Professional Studies is guided by the very principle of adherence and to the college vision; “A Centre for Excellence in Professional Training for National, Regional and International development”, the mission is “to provide quality teacher education and skills training responsive to national, Regional and International needs”. The motto, “Hard Work for Excellence,” and her cherished core values: “Team work, Integrity, Excellence, Professionalism and innovativeness are a great light to the path of quality education”. The department has a very strong team of players who exhibit professionalism and a high level of cooperation. They are not only committed, self-motivated and hardworking, but qualified and competent with a wealth of experience to teach the professional subjects which are Educational Psychology, Foundations of Education and Development Studies and adequately cover the syllabus for Diploma in Education Secondary and Diploma in Education Primary within Kyambogo University scheduled time frame. Students are also ably supported in their research projects. Active Teaching and Learning approach has greatly been embraced at NTC Muni and the lecturers in professional department have clearly demonstrated to the teacher trainees that this is the 21st century way forward for every practicing teacher in the teaching fraternity. Needless to reiterate that, the lecturers in professional department promote students’ own engagement
in doing research, ability to restructure existing knowledge, and demonstrate critical thinking skills that enhance understanding of the concepts in the subjects they learn. This active learning also promotes adequate coverage of the syllabus for better academic performance in tests and examinations. It would be self-defeating not to acknowledge the fact the achievements in the department are largely due to good leadership and guidance from the College administration (Principal Rev. Fr Adrian Katarikawe), on matters pertaining to proper management of the department. The MoE&S under TIET Department and Enabel (Belgium Development Agency) have tirelessly supported the academic staff of the department in Continuous Professional Development in crucial areas such as Strategic Planning and Management, Monitoring and Evaluation Pedagogy, Andragogy methodologies, Basic and Action Research to mention but a few. This has been reflected in good academic staff performance evidenced in students’ good academic performance in professional subjects or studies. For God and my country Angima Christine

MESSAGE FROM THE CLINICAL OFFICER Bearing in mind that prevention is better than cure, my emphasis goes to disease prevention than curation. Most of the common diseases can be prevented on minimal costs through good sanitation, personal hygiene, sleeping under treated mosquito nets, avoiding drug abuse, drinking safe water and seeking early treatment among others thus avoiding unnecessary medical bills and the burden of taking drugs. Let’s not forget HIV/AIDs and other sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies and early marriages which are causing social economic draw backs to the youth in the country. FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY Thanks kind regards.

SCIENCE IS A FACT OF LIFE Thrills and excitements of capturing the dreams of science are undying and creativity never go to dim. So it’s interesting and for this reason, we have decided to let the cat out of the science bag so that other people can join the team. Because of science, people are able to discover facts just like Isaac newton, Archimedes, Kepler, Tinsten, plank, Avogadro and others. With science, we are able to explain everyday phenomena. We also go beyond mere catchy jargons to find out who, the what, the where, the how and the why of an occurrence. Hence, science makes us manipulate technology so as to uncover the details.

AGRICULTURE AT NTC MUNI
Students of agriculture at NTC Muni carried out a project on skills development. They produced high quality eggplants, which is a vegetable, crop majorly grown for consumption and also a source of income. However, the growth of eggplant requires various field operations such as raising nursery bed, land preparation, application of organic manure, weed, pest and disease control using methods friendly to the environment. Soil conservation refers to the art and science or measures taken to control soil erosion and maintain soil fertility and productivity. For all the agricultural activities to keep on moving well, all we need to do is to conserve the soil and the objectives of conserving the soil is to control soil loss by reducing soil erosion, control loss of nutrients from the land in order to maintain soil productivity and also reduce pollution of water bodies and to retain water in the soil for use in crop growth.

WHY THE FOX EATS CHICKEN they would pay for it. “Keep it well”, warned Mr. Fox, “I promised not to lend to anybody, but since your father is a good friend of mine, I have given it”. When Mr. Cock’s children arrived home, they told their father how heavily they were warned about the safety of the needle. Mr. Cock thanked his friend for the prompt response he had received and asked his children not to worry about the safety of the needle. He knew very well that his friend would not fail him because his songs usually attracted thousands of animals to the concert. Besides this, his friend was one of the active supporters though had an awkward voice on the stage. Once upon a time, Mr. Cock and Mr. Fox were very good friends. They used to enjoy their living together despite the fact that they had different occupations. Mr. Cock was a great musician in the forest. Besides, he had a small farm to support his family while Mr. Fox was a hunter. Mr Cock also had a workshop which was producing clothes out of hides he got from the animals he killed. These very activities made Mr Cock and Mr Fox famous in the jungle. So, they were accorded much respect in the communities they lived in. One day, Mr Cock sent his children to borrow a needle from his friend so that he could stitch his torn clothes. “Go and get for me a needle from my friend Fox”, Mr Cock told his children. “Tell him that I would like to stitch my torn clothes I will present in during the forthcoming concerts.” This annual concert normally attracted thousands of animals from all corners of the jungle. Therefore, his two cockerels went hurriedly to borrow the needle and repeated the words of their father. Mr Fox was ever stingy with all his belongings. He could hardly say a word on such a request. That’s why all other animals havd stopped borrowing things from him. Mr. Cock remained as still as a statue in a minute, looking at his friend’s children. He suddenly entered his house and gave them the needle on condition that it should not get lost otherwise
Oftentimes Mr. Fox had made an attempt to join his friend in singing on the stage but when the music got to its climax, he found himself barking at the audience. Mr Fox’s fierce look blended with the coarse voice often causing confusion in the interpretation of meaning of the musical piece by many supporters, although they didn’t complain openly. Many animals called him “the music catalyst” because he brought a mixed reaction in music. He was not told why he was called so. When Mr. Cock was mending his clothes, he began to rehearse his newly composed song that he would present on the big day. ‘Koko liri ko hoo Koko liri ko hoo’ x2 Soon the work was no more. He hid the needle between his fathers’ and went to check his farm far from his home. No sooner had he gone to the farm than his friend came looking for him. When Mr. Fox asked about his friend’s whereabouts, he was told that he went to check his garden. Mr. Fox having had an urgent programme about the traps, he had put, couldn’t wait any further. He therefore sent one of the cockerels to call his father. When Mr. Cock saw his son come running, he knew very well that Mr. Fox had come. He couldn’t wait to be told where he kept the needle. He flapped his wings to remove the needle and quickly looked down to see if it had fallen down, but discovered that the needle was missing. He started a quick search by raking all the rubbish around and told his son to call his family members for a company.
21
They all joined the struggle to search for the needle. “Father”, cockerel said sadly, “We told you that you must keep the needle well. Then, why did you do this? “I kept the needle between my feathers hoping that it would not drop” said Mr. Cock sadly. On the other hand, the Hen tasked her husband to explain how he hid the needle. Mr. Cock humbly laid down without any word and started to put some small sticks like grass on his back to elaborate the process of putting the needle. Since then Hen could remember their trouble during the time of laying eggs by putting such sticks on their back to see if their new generation could discover the needle and carefully guide the chicks in the process of looking for the needle by raking. After a long expectation, Mr. Fox went personally to the garden to see what Mr. Cock
and the family were doing. If he had known that his needle had got lost, he would have armed himself ready with guns to clear them off. Mr. Cock on seeing his friend in the garden, went straight to him to narrate the whole story. He thought that he would succeed in convincing him, but neither did he. Mr. Fox demanded for his needle in two days’ time. When Mr. Cock knew that he had successfully convinced his friend, he lied to him that they would do so. When the two days were over, it was clear that the matter couldn’t be solved. This forced them to flee to save their lives. On Fox’s return to his friend’s home, he did not find them. That’s why they are now enemies. Acidri Cosmas.
PAINFUL BACKGROUND
At the age of eight, Treasure got to know the truth of her life which unfolded as the elder sister insulted her and said “this is not your father’s home you idiot”
This happened when their mother was working as a civil servant with the government. The poor girl hid behind the kitchen house. She cried wondering what exactly the sister meant by those words. Treasure began to question herself about who her real father could be. Her sister had mentioned that they didn’t share a father.
siblings generously. On the fateful day when I gave birth to you, he visited me. He brought gifts to you, but were all colours for a baby boy. He asked me what the sex of the baby was. I told him it was a baby girl. Then he got hold of you and said you were very beautiful his present (gift) to me. That’s why I named you Treasure.” “I stayed indoors for forty days as demanded in the Muslim faith. He then slowly and surely disappeared from our lives. I never saw him again”
One day Treasure asked her mother about the truth of her ‘father’. She was uncomfortable that she did not share the same father with the rest of the children. The mother opened up to her. “Your father me when I was a widow working in a small restaurant. He was my customer. We fell in love. When I conceived you, he was supportive and helped me and your other

THE DECEPTION In the middle of an errand, I feel an urge to have a bowel movement. I ignore it, but it’s later followed by a moderately painful cramp and some discomfort, which cease after a few seconds, and then I begin feeling urgently pressed. I have very poor rectum control, as had been documented in various separate incidences throughout my life. So, I quickly decide to drop the errand, since time is limited and rush home to drop the shit. I hop to the nearest motorbike, frantically patting the bodaboda guy on the back asking him to speed to the given destination. I can feel my sphincter muscles almost giving up, and I am gripped by anxiety as I’m certain that I’m about to have a violent bout of diarrhea. I grimace and twist my waist a bit. I tell him to hurry up. I unzip my bag and start looking for the keys to my room beforehand and I find them just as we get close to the gate. I get off the bike, careful not to let my legs part too far, just in case. Standing, , I subtly shake my behind to encourage my rectum to stay put, as we look for the loose one thousand shillings am sure was in my bag a few seconds ago. Mercifully, the gate isn’t closed, and as I run, a neighbor greets me, but in the panic the adrenaline filled run, I mistakenly blurt out an insult instead of an appropriate response. I don’t notice this until a few seconds later when I’m at my door, and the neighbor who looks shocked and offended, is disappearing though the gate. Of course, at the door, the urge has suddenly magnified and my colon is about to burst and conveniently lock and key have conspired to frustrate me further. The key ‘refuses’ to enter the first few times, and when it finally does, it ‘refuses’ to turn. I desperately try another key before going to the first, which can’t be arced about doing its job. All this time, I am giving an outstanding breakdance performance there, at my doorstep, in a bid to keep my body confused and delay the excretion process. I am sweating and almost crying because I am sure that I’d break loose on myself. Maybe, it’s just in my head, but I swear I can feel something moist, squishy and warm oozing out. At last, after I sacrifice a relative that I hate the gods of locks and keys, the door is open. I don’t even remove my shoes. No time to close the door. I don’t even check where I am, throwing the things I am holding. I hear something break but I don’t care. While dashing to the toilet, the hem of my skirt is already at the waist and I’m tugging at my underwear. I know it’s going to be a war, I can feel it. I hurriedly sit on the toilet with a heavy smack, and just as I do, a loud fart escapes, and I instantly feel relieved. I wait, but that’s it. That was it all along. Just gas. I remain silently seated as I comprehend the deception I’ve gone through.
Debora Arayo Year One Physics/Chemistry I was awake in bed plotting evil and wickedness when I saw something dark on the floor. In the semi-darkness, and from the shape and form of the thing, it looked like a big rat. My blood pressure panicked and my heart chose to overreact, but it could have been my poor eyesight. So I moved my head closer to the edge of the mattress and I squinted. Sweet mercy, a rat it was. I could see its very round body, small head and long tail, and though its body was not moving, my squinted eyes told me that it appeared to be eating something on the floor. It was the same rat that had been wreaking havoc in the plot and outwitted everyone. It even ate poisoned food set as a bait and didn’t die. I imagined the many ways it could have sneaked into our room. I didn’t want to alert the pest of its imminent extermination. So, I slowly got up and tiptoed to the bathroom to get a mop, hoping that he wouldn’t have to run off to some inaccessible place before I was back. I would kill that fucker! I would show him. I was going to commit murder most foul. A one man bloodbath never witnessed before. The entire police force would never find his body. I would finish that fat fury fuck! Determined, I tiptoed back with the mop in my hand. And because my God doesn’t slumber the rodent was surprisingly still there, eating i-don’tknow-what on the floor. I slowly and carefully approached the intruder from behind, like a camouflaged soldier in war, as I calculated the distance between the rat and the mop. Then I stood firmly with my legs slightly apart and aimed. With all the vengeance and hatred I have for the destructive creature and its ilk, I struck for the times it ate my leftovers that I had planned to eat in the morning. ‘Take that you little shit. Perish!!’ I yelled. I was ready to shriek and jump to the ceiling and hold onto it like a lizard in case it decided to run for its life. After causing the maximum damage, I ran to on switch the lights, panting. Lying there on the floor wasn’t a rat but my black brassier!!!!!!!! Debora Arayo Year One Physics/Chemistry

DO VEGETABLES CAUSE BLOATING?
According to a research carried out by Year II students of NTC Muni, vegetables cause bloating. The problem associated with vegetables especially those in the cabbage family such as cabbage, lettuce and broccoli is that they ferment easily. Because of this, they tend to produce gas in the digestive system. Accumulation of such gas in the stomach leads to bloating. Bloating may make one’s abdomen appear distended. You can prevent bloating by avoiding vegetables in the cabbage family. If you regularly experience bloating, you should also reduce consumption of legumes such as beans. This is because during digestion beans give off carbon dioxide which can lead to abdominal bloating. Foods to avoid and which are prone to bloating also include; carbonated beverages like cola sodas and fizzy drinks. This is because the air infused in the drinks during the carbonation
may cause gas to build up in the stomach which leads to discomfort, bloating and more likely belching. Dairy products can also cause bloating due to malabsorption of lactose like the sugar contaminated in milk. Raw and half cooked vegetables are prone to harbouring micro-nutrients that could cause diseases especially those caused by poor hygiene such as typhoid, cholera and dysentery. One can make salads safer for consumption by washing the fruits or vegetables under running water, dipping them in hot water or washing them in the water mixed with vinegar. MUSIC CYCLE IN LIFE CYCLE Music covers 75% of the emotional life of humans. What is music? This is termed as an organized sound either accompanied by instruments or not. When a man approaches a lady for an intimate relationship, he is backed up by music. He composes persuasive words which he prepares and presents melodically in the sweetest tone. Her reactions are musically covered by rhythmic gestures musically. Weddings, the honeymoon and bedroom activities are coated with music. To morale boost the man, the lady uses the sweetest melodic tones hence the results come with a baby afterwards. On entering into worldly life, the baby sings a song to celebrate victory over the darkness in the womb which the folk call crying. Throughout its life, the baby moves with music at every stage. When it is crying or in need or sleeping, hungry and angry, it is soothed with lullaby music. As it is growing, action songs and children play songs also lay
a big role in children’s cognitive development and motor skills. From childhood to adulthood, we don’t abandon music. While praying to God, while traveling, in restaurants, in markets, during leisure, in schools and everywhere, music is always around. Even in the absence of recorded music, we tend to sing loudly or silently inside our hearts in order to relax our minds, develop concentration or to console ourselves in difficult times. Do you remember the song ‘slave slave slave’ in America? In life cycle, you can’t do away with music. Even when we do, music is played and songs are sung to accompany us with prayers and console the rest. Music is an art of life that softly clears away all difficult situations through melodic organized sound. Musiitwa Goodluck Tebirakira Music President Straight Talk Club

The Brain Teaser Three living creatures crossed the river with the support of only a single creature’s two legs, though all crossed at the same time. However, the first creature was able to see the water, step into it and cross it. The second was also able to see the water and crossed it although it never stepped into it. And likewise, the third was able to cross the water although it never saw the water neither did it step in it. Who were the three living creatures? Answer: A pregnant woman carrying a little child on her back. KHISA EMANUEL

O! Ankole Culture Our dear readers and writers I welcome you all to this magazine. Culture is the epitome of beauty and the African is irresistible. Culture is the way of life and social organization of a particular group. According to the Ankole culture, dressing is very decent. Women are well dressed in the “lushuti” while the men in their “kanju” unlike today where both the young and old women have no difference in wearing miniskirts, Madonna tops and sagging pants. For the marital care in Ankole for women to be respected, they had to remain virgins till marriage. You wouldn’t marry before paying bride price unlike today where they meet in clubs and get pregnant tomorrow before marriage. Considering the Ankole culture etiquette towards culture, I see it was better off than the modern one. The modern etiquette is euphemism. Turyamujura Bernard
Best friend Life never seems to be the way we want, but we live it the best way we can. There is no perfect life but we can feel it with perfect moments because wealth can melt, fame can turn into shame, power isn’t forever, love sometimes is unfair but the friends who remember each other last forever. One tree makes a million matchsticks but one matchstick can burn a million trees…….Remember one negative thought can burn all positive thoughts. Likewise, making millions of friends is not an achievement. The achievement is to make a friend who will stand by you when millions are against you. A pain of missing friends is not only about their absence but it is when you think of the good times and ideas you shared together and ask yourself “will those moments ever happen again?” and the brain gives no answer (brain era) Apio Joyce

Best friend Blessing Hello. Blessing, how is Arua? Maracha is okay. I heard you conceived. I really feel touched. Please, do not abort. Abortion is dangerous to your life and biblically, a sin. Neither are you the first nor the last girl to do such a thing. You are still important. Never commit suicide. Do not ruin your life because of pregnancy. Do you have a plan to conceive? I believe, no. Do you know that we make plans but God is the final decision maker? Do not fear to go to your parents. Go to them and tell them that you really made a mistake and you are sorry for it. Mind you, adolescence happens to every 15 year old child in life. Please, dear friend, visit the medical doctor for body check-up. This may help to avoid complications during your birth. Dear friend, this is how things happen to a normal human being. Be free, feel normal, feel at home, and do not be solitarily from now. Wishing you agood health. Yours friend, Brian. Buleni Innocent.
A Modest Proposal for a son Please son, now that you were handed over to this world of realities by your mother, the day she hatched you out of her womb, be real, and try as much as possible to side with decisions that lead you to success. Do not be passive, even in the smallest things that people tend to ignore. Do not let your privacy dominate your publicity. Be a principled personality with a brave identity. Be strong in the spirit. Do not let the don’ts dominate you. I mean never postpone your intentions, no matter situations surrounding them. More importantly, do not wish because you are that wish yourself. Be less of a storyteller, and more of the headlines of the story. Little should you discuss people but big should people discuss you. Relate with the right people in all levels of life as they want to see you down, down, unknown and worn. Before I forget son, fear is your greatest enemy. However, the remedy is simple. Do not be afraid of it because you were born without fear. You were born to conquer. And most importantly, you were born with power. Be a free minded, civilized personality. Do not worry a lot. Situations come and go. This world is not your home. You were born with nothing and you shall die with nothing. Live each day like there is no other day. We were born to die, get buried, decompose and feed the bellies of the ground living things. More so, we are to make good minerals where the beneficiaries shall not even in
anyway be related to you. Carry a dignity. Be worth being respected. Do not let burning issues accumulate in you. Laugh when the need arises. Cough when necessary. Act like an understanding, witty person, who knows when to feed on garbage and when to feed on glittery food. Waste no time and focus on your strength. A person who speaks on stage publicly with stage fright is miles better than one who does not utter anything at all. And then lastly cross all the borders and conquer the world, as greatness has no limits. Kubo Patrick.

MY HERO Dear Dad, I believe you understand when I say I love you. No one in the world will love me more than I do to you. You have made me see the wonderful of happiness. You have gone out of your way to give joy to my heart. When feel so down, you give me a shoulder to lean on. Oh how wonderful you are my father. Every day you labor because of me. At dawn you wake up, sometimes without breakfast. Off you go. You work yourself tirelessly so that I do not admire a single thing. Noon gets on, but you mind coming home for lunch. You do not mind the little food at the workplace. Time is your major factor. All afternoon you strain your brain, aiming at what will really give me a smile. Dusk comes and here my father, you come home all tired and hungry for my

Be Humble
To the one who’s up life’s ladder, be humble. To the one who is down life’s ladder, be hopeful. It takes only minutes for the same hand of the clock to move from up to down or vice versa. It takes minutes for you to be at the top or bottom. You shouldn’t disrespect another because you have something they lack. Trust me ………you may look overly pretty today……yet look like some wasted pension benefit tomorrow. Nothing lasts forever! Not our problems, our pleasures and treasures neither. The same you who may be overly famous today may be overly non-existent tomorrow, the same you who may be chauffeured around today maybe walking for the rest of your life tomorrow. Life is like a wheel. You may be up to today and down tomorrow. You may be in a position today and opposition tomorrow. You may be at the front of attention today and be at the back seat of opposition tomorrow. Skills for Life
Dear Dad,
I believe you understand when I say I love you. No one in theYou may have knowledge about agriculture theory but without skills it all becomes useless. All thanks to NTC Muni Agriculture department and the Administration for having agreed that project work becomes part of the agriculture syllabus. Knowing the skills is good but applying them is the best way to eradicate job seeking. Following the current trend in Uganda, the job seekers are more than the available jobs therefore, with the skills acquired from project work, I know and believe we are able to become bosses and not servants, job creators and not job seekers……wow! To all the Ugandans especially the job seeking graduates, let’s not wait for jobs but start our work. Remember, work is available but jobs are scarce and there is no greater punishment than ‘regret’. A deep thinking
The starting point of achievement is desire, patience; perspiration makes unbeatable combination for success. Today’s era is so challenging that we are living in the world of uncertainties. With most people not taking initiatives of drawing assumptions “I want to be this, be that, how do I achieve it, but if I don’t make it , how best can I carry on?” Education is vital in everyone’s life but we need not to entirely zero our capability on class more or the white man’s colonial initiative “so as to become rich, influential in the society we live in. None it stands up NTC Muni for we make it all over the nation. “A goal is a dream with deadline,” failure is alike a stepping-stone for the desire for success. ‘Never should you chime it’s a failure until all has been done” Nelson Mandela spent over 27 years subjected to harsh treatment, poor food, stinking and cold cells but later as a freedom fighter in South Africa he succeeded. As
the wound inflames the fingers, so thought inflames the mind. No matter how long the winter is, spring is sure to appear. May the almighty God bless you as you implement them. Tayebwa Mathias Education Minister

I Speak for the youth Wow, I feel great having woken up this morning. It’s very ‘secure’, you can always be certain to see tomorrow – as long as you don’t show interest in the never ageing forever young man’s seat of course. In fact everything today that makes public sense is a threat to those atop the hierarchy of the bourbon monarchy. Taking today as an exception, I will bear the risk of tying a red ribbon on my pen as I swing a blow to hit below the belt. Funny how most youth have been rendered useless by people who bear all the keys to the doors that we are struggling over time to unlock. “Go to school and get the key to success in education.” We have studied and graduated and returned with the keys only to realize that the y have changed the padlocks. Now corruption and bribery is the trend today. They have without permission re-baptized us youth. We are ‘lazy’, they say and yet all of them do multiple jobs that
their relatives inherit. Their assistants carry their load while they sign papers, galloping bottles of water. Now that’s hard work they claim. They say we youth are gamblers because we test our luck in betting units. But…….we youth shall wait for them to call on us when they are desperate to retain their seats. My message is clear. The forces of change are sweeping. There is not only time for everything. There is also an end bit. I once lost a beautiful relationship because I had promised to love her until Mugabe Robert retires from office. Tired is the world! We youth are fed up. We are tired of oppression, joblessness and begging. So peace upon my fellow youth, our time is close by.
Facts in life “It hurts to love someone and not to be loved in return, but what is more painful is to love someone and never find courage to let that person know how you feel. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for that gift. Love never fails. 1st Corinthians 13:7. Never give up if you still can go on. Never say you don’t love a person any more if you can’t let it go. It takes only a minute to get a crush on someone and an hour to like someone and a day to love someone. But it takes a lifetime to forget someone. It is true we don’t know what we have got until we lose but we have been missing until it arrived. All in all, true love awaits the right time and these must be persistent. Have faith, hope and love and the greatest of these is love. 1st Corinthians 13:13. Mujuni John Bosco Lit/Eng

Mind blowing math. A father left 17 Camels as an Asset for his Three Sons. When the Father passed away, his sons opened up the will. The Will of the Father stated that the Eldest son should get Half of 17 Camels,The Middle Son should be given 1/3rd of 17 Camels, Youngest Son should be given 1/9th of the 17 Camels, As it is not possible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, the sons started to fight with each other. So, they decided to go to a wise man. The wise man listened patiently about the Will. The wise man, after giving this thought, brought one camel of his own & added the same to 17. That increased the total to 18 camels. Now, he started reading the deceased father’s will.
Half of 18 = 9. So he gave 9 camels to the eldest son. 1/3rd of 18 = 6. So he gave 6 camels to the middle son. 1/9th of 18 = 2. So he gave 2 camels to the youngest son. Now add this up: 9 + 6 + 2 = 17 & This leaves 1 camel, which the wise man took back. MORAL: The attitude of negotiation & problem solving is to find the 18th camel i.e. the common ground. Once a person is able to find the common ground, the issue is resolved. It is difficult at times. However, to reach a solution, the first step is to believe whatsApp
To year one ladies Oh dear gallant Year One ladies. You are most welcome to this new environment of transition from high school mentality to a rather advanced way of behavior. Please go slow because first term or semester is just a dot but not the climax. Remember you still have a long way to go. Why then do you undermine the ones you follow as we try to give you a sense of direction? Mind you, we were once like you and it is not from the blues. Take note. There is a wise African saying ‘what an elder can see while seated, a child cannot see while upon the tree.’ Therefore my dear, stop acting contrary to the accepted norms of the resected National Teachers College Muni. Who is a teacher? (What I understand by being a teacher) Answer: A teacher is anyone who imparts knowledge to others for the sake of making them succeed. Perhaps no profession is more vital to the citizens of any nation than that of teaching. This is as teachers have the greatest potential to affect the lives of many students either negatively or positively.
The importance of a teacher is not measured by what he gets out of the service but his input is valued by the output of his clients. I even go ahead calling them heroes because they serve beyond self. They have witnessed their students becoming better that what they are in terms of benefits. Nevertheless, they have worked tirelessly to achieve it without any jealousy. This is true love for their nation. “They are more than any patriot as they love their country and its people.” Therefore as I am the teacher of tomorrow more so a teacher from National Teachers College Muni, in Arua, I call upon the government of Uganda and the East African States to mobilize resources to reactivate and motivate the young generation to cherish the profession rather than joining it as the last resort. This phenomenon of ‘last resort’ is very hard to wipe out in the intending professionals. It is high time a balance is struck between the teachers’ impact and his benefits or else, the noble profession may practically become extinct. Bakaki Hassan Mathematics and Sports Science

FACT ABOUT LIFE “Life is dynamic.” No condition in life is permanent. It keeps on changing from time to time. So never be puzzled when you are in troubled water. Always try to be flexible towards everything that happens to you. Everyone has ups and downs in his or her life. Stop admiring other people’s life because you can never be them. “Life is what you make.” Make your own life easy before gullibly influencing others. If you want to be a failure in life, get involved in someone’s life. Everyone behaves the way they are and behaviour varies from person to person. Never be impulsive to judge someone, Take your time to draw an influence about someone. Elweu John Michael.

LIFE IS WEALTH Quotes about life and education Hey; Our job as straight talkers/teachers is to make sure that students have good reproductive health and make sure that students get to know what they deserve and not what they prefer. (Teaching our students- citizens of Uganda) Not the ones we would lie to have Not the ones we used to have but those we have right now. All of them. This explains why education does not need to be reformed but it needs to be transformed. The key is not to stabilize education but to personalize it, to build achievement on discovering the individual talents of each child, to put students in an environment where they want to learn and where they can naturally discover their true passions. Note “people who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it. “We are all concerned about the future of Ugandan education but as we should tell our students that they do not enter the world/ future, we have to create the future of our own. Remember the future is created by continuous hard work. Your future is the future of your mind and at your own concern you should know it “intelligence plus charcter , that’s the goal of true education. Education is not preparation for life. Education is education itself . We need to understand that. In a gentle way, you can shake the world. The weak can never forgive as forgiveness is an attribute of the strong. But in fact strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will. As long as you derive inner help and comfort from anything, keep it as the future depends on what we do in the present and never allow anybody to hurt you without permission. In general, as a straight talker, whenever you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him or her with love. For God and my country. For God and Straight Talk Club. May God bless you. MY FUTURE HUSBAND Laying down here on my bed, with pillows, blankets and bed sheets all around me, l am feeling restless and finding it hard to sleep. No one to have mindless chatter with, searching and turning the radio station, for a song or voice that might just soothe me, and lull me to sleep. l wish you were here with me, me in your arms, my head on your chest, maybe you singing to me with your voice. No matter how habit is of listening to your heart beat to make me feel at peace, or you just touching my hair and running your hands down my back or just snoring into each other’s ears and sharing our thoughts or listening to a song together or just cuddling but whichever one it is. I know it will make me calm, because all I’ll need to stop the restlessness is your presence, my heart song, my love, my king, my heart’s desire, my husband, my friend and lover.
queen. For nay I think my restlessness has gradually seeped out, I know I’ll go to sleep with a smile tonight, because I know I’ll love you when we finally meet. Beautifully yours, Nansamba Shamim English Language
Well we still haven’t met, or maybe we’ve passed each other in the street, maybe we grew up together, or went to school together, maybe I have kissed you before, you have flirted with me before. For now I don’t know, because for now you are just a mystery to me. I pray to God that whoever you are , He blesses you, keeps you , protects , guides you , and helps you develop a close relationship with Him, but I know whoever you are my love, you are special amongst many, and a king to my

I WILL NEVER Ooops! Huh…… All of a sudden with trinkling pure white eyes As she looked and walked by with The wary dangling black-sparkling hair As she risked to bend-twist her wasp-like waist So did my neck follow and nod in her motion From afar It’s closely as she neared I realized my eyes had yet missed To witness how she sounded in me, Urge was aching my throat That, don’t just let her pass-by At least just clear your throat Huh! It was when I actually noticed The yellow-black coated coal-like dentals As she attempted to smile back It painted black, all my fantasy library River-washed all my fantasy library That made me believe indeed That a leopard’s skin is too beautiful until she falls hungry.
I won by losing or The story that bores At first my heart grew fonder When he tore my notebook As I contemplated of what my reaction Would be Salt was melted in the wound When he giggled and smiled carelessly at me It was as though I had leapt from hot soup to fire A dew of thought clouded my medulla The veins from my heart grew thick As my Adam’s apple cracked and tickled with pain As my hands folded to onset as though on a time bomb, Until I accidentally noticed that Aggy was snoring next to me On the same bed as sense tapped on me as I woke up To realize it was just a dream, boring to narrate But worthy a lesson, anger a good pal but bad master. Silence is the loudest noise and condenser! Okwaput Israel Victor

And when everything seems to have come to a standstill, I still come back to you. There is no way without you. I could knock a door that would never be opened without you. It could be an external hell. I would be drowning. There is no life, no purpose without you. There is darkness without you in the way. You are the light that brightens the tunnel. The wind bequeathing wings, the reason as to as to why I would smile with no reason, the answer to every need, when it comes to you, my hand would write tirelessly. I need you every hour most precious God. Nakanyike Agnes.
Good Friday It makes me feel gay when I hear the word, But slapped when I remember what the Lord goes through. He suffers a great deal in the hands of, The unscrupulous and villainous Jews. He bears all the scorches and bloody nose Not only that but also the insults. Is it because of our beauty that He Offers Himself? It makes me slapped on the face whenever I hear the words. I feel empty and a hollow deepens inside me That gold can never fill. Lets bow down and worship Him Lord of lords. Because He is the King of kings and the way to Heaven He is! It makes me tremble and feel chaotic inside me His body being torn by the thorns leaves a panic Inside me. But I feel leased when receiving Him sacramentally And spiritually. For He is the Lord of lords and King of kings. For may His name be praised for ever. Atizuyo Doreen Queen

MY LIFE My life is a kind of life that I came From a bad ground that you can term as Unstable or anything that you like It was good, when cash was there Where there was nothing like praying in the church But God visited me and a lesson was Learnt. Now you can judge me how am Good and bad, yet you know that Jesus Is the King. God made us people in the World not of this world. Within me I have decided to live with the truth Because the truth is with the one Who is saved. I don’t care what they think of Me, I just care who I am. In front of The world He chose me when I was Born. Many say that I am a hypocrite Others say. ‘Girl you have pride.’ But Me what I know am just like Him. Alezuyo Agnes Olivia.

Ladies First Today, it is a common phrase for people to say “excuse me , ladies first please!” I hope this principle will not be applied in heaven on the last day of judgement like the one I witnessed! Dear readers of this esteemed edition of the ‘Light Magazine’, allow me narrate to you what I witnessed with the pharse “ladies first”. It was on the judgement day and angel Gabriel was reading out names from the book of life as God watched. The righteuous moved to the right hand side of God and the unrighteous ones went to the left side where a big red fire was. The list of those names going to heaven was tremendously short compared to the other list. I was sad when my name got missing from that particular list. It was not so long when the angel said, “the rest of you are going to hell”. As we started moving slowly by slowly, a women’s activist shouted, “stop! A moment please before you continue going!, ladies first…………..” Everyone looked on and then the men said, “it is okey………………….” And the men paved way for the ladies to go first. As the women matched, the activist kept on motivating them by saying, “….we have to show these men that we are brave, bold and strong and then the men said, “its okey, safe journey……….” As the second last stepped into hell, angel Gabriel lokked up and said, “Guys, am sorry, hell is full, may be you can just make yourselves comfortable in heaven!” Being the last lady left, I was overwhelmed by the angel’s statement and rushed to heaven comfortably like in a dream. Moral lesson: Be humble, take one step at a time. Natuhwera Hellen Language class.

Catholic Religion in NTC Muni This remains the religion of my lifetime and my most thanks goes to our principal who has endeavoured to do his best in supporting Catholics in NTC Muni. For example we the Catholics have been given a Rev Father who leads us in prayers every Sunday. We have been allowed to fast every fasting period as we are being supported. As a result of fasting, we the Catholics who believe in God have gained the peace, wisdom, knowledge and increased your faith among others.
Catholicism remains my tale to tell for my faith in God. Through being a catholic, I am prepared for eternal life. God the most great, with knowledge about everything he may reward the NTC Muni more and more. Otherwise God be with you all. Turyamujura Bernard Culture
