Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh, is a premier museum of North India having collections of Gandharan sculptures, sculptures from ancient and medieval India, Pahari and Rajasthani miniature paintings. It owes its existence to the partition of India in August, 1947. Prior to the partition, much of the collections of art objects, paintings and sculptures present here were housed in the Central Museum, Lahore, the then capital of Punjab. The museum has one of the largest collection of Gandharan artefacts in the world.

Nek Chand Saini was a self-taught Indian artist, known for building the Rock Garden of Chandigarh, an 18 acre sculpture garden in the city of Chandigarh. Chand’s work was illegal, but he was able to hide it for 18 years before it was discovered by the authorities in 1975. By this time, it had grown into a 13-acre (5.3 ha) complex of interlinked courtyards, each filled with hundreds of pottery-covered concrete sculptures of dancers, musicians, and animals. Made from recycled materials, Chand built up the mass with a cement and sand mix before adding a final coating of smoothly burnished pure cement combined with waste materials such as broken glass, bangles, crockery, mosaic and ironfoundry slag.

One of the most underrated tourist places in Gurgaon, the Leisure Valley Park is tucked away in Gurgaon, sector 29. Housing a classic jogging track, garden, sandpit and swings/ play area for kids, the park sees a lot of footfall during weekends. The garden carries a quiet little cafe to chill in. A handful of musical fountains line the garden pathways, along with a fragrant rose garden, splattered with various floral colours. The Leisure Valley Park is popular amongst kids and youngsters alike and is always bustling with people.

The landmark location, where Le Corbusier with his team of architects conceived the designs, was considered an apt location for the setting up of the museum. The outer lawn after entering the complex is studded with modern sculptures and installations. The main museum building is rather simple and utilitarian with one main gallery displaying the photographs, furniture, and paintings of Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. This gallery leads to many small rooms again used for displaying the artefacts and photographs related to the conception of the city of Chandigarh.
