KOLKATA OLD TOWN The city was a colonial city developed by the East India Company and then by the British Empire. Kolkata was the capital of the British Indian empire until 1911, when the capital was relocated to Delhi. Kolkata grew rapidly in the 19th century to become the second city of the British Indian Empire.
ADISAPTAGRAM & BANSBERIA The buildings designed and curated by ABIN Design studio in Adisaptagram , Saptagram was an ancient flourishing port town of Bengal which had worldwide fame and Bansberia is a city and a municipality of Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is about 45 km (28 mi) away from Kolkata.
KOLKATA NEW TOWN New Town is a planned satellite city of Kolkata, India. The city was declared as Smart Green City. Students had a chance to explore a part of New Town .They visited Science city and got a chance to observe the Forum Atmosphere building at the rear side of Science city.
BHUBANESHWAR Bhubaneswar is an ancient city in India’s eastern state of Odisha, formerly Orissa. Many temples built from sandstone are dotted around Bindu Sagar Lake in the old city.
Konark is a medium town in the Puri district in the state of Odisha, India. It lies on the coast by the Bay of Bengal, 60 kilometres from the capital of the state, Bhubaneswar.

Abin Design Studio began in October, 2005 under the leadership of Abin Chaudhuri. He graduated from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 1998 and pursued Industrial Design at Domus Academy, Milan. Recently, he attended the Glenn Murcutt International Master Class 2014. Over these 10 years, ADS has executed a range of diverse projects that have engaged many issues, multiple constituencies and varying scales, from interior design and architecture to urban design and Art

ADS believes architecture is an artistic expression as far as it transcends its purely utilitarian, technical and rational realm, and turns into a metaphoric expression of the lived world, human condition and context. Our aim is to provide a “Soul in the Shell”. Over a slim span of ten years, completed projects of ADS have earned us numerous accolades. In 2014, our work was selected by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York, for publication and a travelling exhibition -
Architecture is not merely about Creation, It is about a Search. From social aspects, to the mechanics of spaces and forms, from the beauty of light and shadow to striking a harmony with nature, it is essentially a continuing process of discovery of cohesion in the world. The journey, and all that we come across during this process, is what contributes to one’s growth.

This Community Hall came with a lot of constraints from the governing bodies. With the intent of reaching out to a people at large, Abin Design Studio took up the project embracing all the conditions set forth. The building had to be devised with minimal changes to the existing footprint.

The Gallery House was then planned as a garage on the ground level with a multi-purpose activity space on the upper level intended to be used by the neighborhood as well. Exposed brick masonry walls inlaid with ceramic blocks define the building character as a contemporary expression of the inspiration. Collaborating with a ceramic artist, rejected ceramic blocks produced for industrial use, were collected.

The Victoria Memorial features Indo-Saracenic revivalist architectural style which displays a blend of Mughal and British elements along with Egyptian, Islamic, Venetian, and Deccani elements. Made of white Markana marble, the edifice has dimensions of 103 meters by 69 meters and reaches up to a height of 56 meters.

In terms of design, Victoria Memorial draws inspiration from the Taj Mahal. It has a main central dome, four smaller domes, high portals, domed chaatris of octagonal shape, domed towers at the corners, and terrace. The Angel of Victory, a 16-feet tall figure, stands on top of the central dome.

It’s believed that Lt. Col. Mark Wood drew a detailed map of the European settlement in then Calcutta in 1784, several features of which still exist, albeit under different names in the city. Many streets and buildings and parts of the landscape depicted in the 1784 map of European Calcutta still form a major part of the city and that is exactly what this walk, organised by Heritage Walk Calcutta, will explore.

Science City Kolkata is the largest science centre in the Indian subcontinent. It is managed by National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It is located at the crossing of Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and J. B. S. Haldane Avenue in East Topsia.

The caves are situated on two adjacent hills, Udayagiri and Khandagiri mentioned as Kumari Parvata in the Hathigumpha inscription. They have a number of finely and ornately carved caves built during the 1st century BCE. It is believed that most of these caves were carved out as residential blocks for Jaina monks during the reign of King Kharavela. Udayagiri means “Sunrise Hill” and has 18 caves while Khandagiri has 15 caves.

The construction of the temple is credited to King Narasimhadeva I, a warrior and monarch of the Eastern Ganga Dynasty. The Sun Temple in Konark exhibits the traditional Odisha style of architecture, also known as Kalinga architecture, on a grand scale. It is designed as a massive chariot mounted on 12 pairs of intricately carved giant stone wheels that are drawn by a set of seven mighty stone horses. The temple is built with such a fine slant towards the east that the first rays of the rising sun illuminate the main entrance. This main entrance is ornamented with two huge stone lions standing on both sides. Both these lions are shown as trampling an elephant and a man beneath.
