Since we published the last magazine, we have had two particularly thought-provoking events in the news
It is a year on from the invasion of Ukraine and the ong plight of its people suffering relentless attacks, displacement and hardship Then on 6th February the Turkish – Syrian earthquake happened, plunging yet more millions of people into unimaginable difficulties and grief

In spite of our own problems here, many people feel they need to do something to help. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is an organization that accepts donations to provide an urgent response to crises around the world, including Ukraine, Turkey, Syria and Pakistan among others Sheringham Shantymen will be giving a concert on Saturday 11th March at St Peter ’s Church, Sheringham and giving the proceeds to DEC Turkey – Syria Earthquake Appeal Of course, you can donate directly to the DEC website: dec.org.uk or to the other familiar organizations such as Unicef, Red Cross, Save the Children and many others Do please make sure that your donations are not going to scammers by donating to official websites

News from the Venue
Following on from my appeal last month, I’m delighted that so many people came forward to help at the Venue We have a great time volunteering for this vibrant, busy and essential community project, and it ’s always wonderful to welcome new people on board There's always room for more, so if you want to join a great family of volunteers and meet new people, plus bless your community by helping out with our many events, cafes and groups, please do get in touch We’ve got a huge amount in the diary in the run up to Easter; as well as our usual Bingo Night, which is attracting around 100 people now, we have joined forces with 1st Holt Scouts to help them to raise vital funds for their summer camp and have a Prize Bingo Night on 21st April with superb prizes Prior to that, and again for the Scouts, we have a fabulous Italian Night on 11 March, with delicious Italian food and our bar open for the evening At only £8 a ticket for adults and £5 for children, it ’s a great night Booking is essential for this evening, and tickets can be purchased from EventBrite online
Joining forces with another charity called WhizzKidz that is being supported by two local Mums Lucy and Becci, we are hosting a disco on 24th March, so get your boogie shoes on and grab a ticket for only £5; all money raised goes towards helping disabled children access mobility aids The ladies have also put together an amazing raffle with outstanding prizes and will be selling tickets on the night. We have a new monthly Tea Dance starting on 19th March and carrying on every 3rd Sunday of the Month, so if you like your sequence, ballroom, latin and line, call Pat and Malcolm on 01328 864404 to book a place Price is £5 with door prize, and all proceeds go to charity
We’ve had 2 Crafternoons now, our new group for young people who love a bit of crafting This free event is held every 4th Sunday of the month, and is a lovely, relaxed time of crafting and tea drinking! It's a super event for Grandparents or parents to bring the little ones to, no need to book A massive thank you to Cheryl Waugh and her team for heading this lovely venture up
Our 3rd Film Festival was a great success, with many people coming to see some fantastic Crime Films, talks and interviews, and it was wonderful to meet actor Roy Marsden, and author Elly Griffiths who both gave fabulous interviews to over 100 people. A huge thank you to Keith and Pam at Holt Book Shop, who helped enormously with the creative content of the festival and provided a great book shop within the centre for crime fans, and to the wonderful Film Festival team who all worked so hard over the weekend to make it a success
We are gearing up for our next Family Fun Day, this time Easter themed, on 15th April It's a free event for families with children and is shaping up to be just as much fun as our Christmas event, so get it in your diary! I’m so pleased that we have live music events returning, with Southbound playing on 1st April, After Hours on 29th April, and the Big Band returning on 3rd May All tickets can be purchased on EventBrite With an exciting Art Exhibition on over Easter for 2 weeks from 6th to 16th April it ’s going to be an exciting, varied and packed month ahead at the Venue!
