Athletics - Adult Co-ed Kickball League

Come out and relive childhood memories and stay in shape with this adult kickball league! It’s a fun, semi competitive league designed to facilitate athletic competition, exercise, and a friendly social environment with meet ups after the game. After School Program Recreational activities such as sports, arts and crafts, music, dance, and the performing arts will keep children active and having fun, while staff ensure a focus on building character and learning life skills.

The program is held Monday through Friday from 2:45 until 6 p.m. on all fully operating school days. Parents or guardians must pick up their children not riding the after school activity bus promptly at 6 p.m. Participants must be enrolled at the selected elementary school. Registration at Humphrey Calder or Randolph Community Centers are open to the public.

Please note that if Richmond Public Schools are operating on a half day, the After School Program will not occur.

Aquatics Richmond Riptides Swim Team

Has your child just finished an amazing league season and is interested in swimming during the school year? Has he or she just finished swim lessons and you’re looking for more? Well look no further!

The Richmond Riptides Swim Team is designed to offer a competitive swimming experience to youth ages 5 to 18 years old. Swimmers will have the opportunity to learn all four swimming strokes, build self-confidence, meet new friends, and become stronger swimmers in an exciting and fun environment.

The Richmond Riptides Swim Team competes in the Virginia Community Swim League (VCSL), which is comprised of municipally sponsored teams from the Richmond and Tidewater areas, in USA Swim meets, and local fun meets. All participants must be able to swim the length of a 25 yard pool on their own to be eligible to participate with the team.

Aquatics Lifeguard Training Course

The Lifeguard Training Course provides entry level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing emergencies and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.

Before entering the Lifeguard Training program, participants must demonstrate the following skills: • Swim for 300 yards continuously • Tread water for 2 minutes using only their legs • Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds that includes: • Start in the water and swim 20 yards.

• Surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and retrieve a 10 pound object.

• Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on their back to the starting point.

• Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

A prerequisite swim is required of all participants.

The swim test is necessary to enter the class.

Aquatics Swim Lessons

The objective of the “Learn to Swim” courses are to teach children, teens, and adults to be safe in, on, and around the water and to swim well. Aquatic and personal water safety skills are taught in a logical progression through six levels. PRCF teaches swim lessons for preschoolers (ages 3-4 years) and those that are ages 5 years and over for levels 1,2,3, and adult. Participants are encouraged to sign up for the appropriate level based on their level of swimming ability. There may be a time where a participant is switched to a different class depending on their ability.

Registration for all “Learn to Swim” classes will take place online. Unfortunately, the Aquatics Division is unable to hold spaces due to previous enrollment, age, group, or level of the child. Each class is on a first come, first served basis until all classes and levels are full. Please note that class availability are subject to change. Classes are also subject to be cancelled as a result of inclement weather. We will work to schedule make up classes, however there may be times that classes will not be made up.

Students currently finishing their Kindergarten year to 12 years old are sure to have a blast this summer.

Each camp will focus on learning through play. Participants will enjoy learning new things in a safe and supportive environment. Campers will increase their social & life skills, go on field trips, improve physical skills & health, and learn to appreciate the world of environmental education during our Summer Blast!

Campers take to the stage at Pine Camp Cultural Arts Center! With daily theater, dance, music, and arts classes, campers will have a blast making new friendships and showing off their superstar skills!

Each camp session will culminate with a small showing of either “Lion King, Jr.” or “Little Mermaid, Jr.”.

Summer Dance Intensive

The City Dance Program Summer Dance Intensive is a fun interactive dance camp that will introduce the students to Ballet, Jazz, Modern, African, Lyrical, Tap and Hip-Hop dance genres. Students will work diligently over the course of 7 weeks with professional dance artist. At the end of the camp, parents will be treated to a culminating event!

Wet felting is a simple process that uses warm water and wool (so cozy!) to make felted shapes. Participants will learn felt making basics to design and build simple objects like bags or accessories. Outdoor Education Meteor Shower Bike Tour

After a scenic and challenging ride along the Virginia Capitol Trail, we’ll camp under the stars at Chickahominy Riverfront Park and watch the Perseid Meteor Shower. At its peak, we can expect to see between 60 and 100 meteors per hour during the Perseids.

We’ll return to the city the following morning.
