Search & Scribble helps children see things in different ways & encourages out-of-the-box thinking. Unusual connections. When children are able to make connections that are unusual or that go against the norm, they have the basis for true creative thinking. As they develop their own unique perspective, they can think of new & interesting ways to understand & interact in the world.
@search_and_scribble
Making connections is an essential life skill for children. Making connections and seeing patterns is an important part of being creative. Creative learning helps children learn to make innovative connections which impact brain development.
Making connections involves the prefrontal cortex of the developing brain, which assists in the process of figuring out how things relate to each other, and problem solving in lateral ways.
Every time we use a metaphor we relate one thing to another via our imagination. Creative people have made great discoveries through the process of seeing connections where others have not.

Visual Learning Finding & exploring 3D objects & drawing develops visual-spatial skills, which are more important than ever.
Inventiveness When kids are encouraged to express themselves & take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.
Improved Academic Performance Studies show that there is a correlation between art and other achievement. A report by Americans for the Arts states that young people who participate regularly in the arts are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/public/files/Publications/Arts_Education_Review.pdf

Simple creative activities are some of the building blocks of child development. Motor Skills Many of the motions involved in making art, such as scribbling with a crayon, are essential to the growth of fine motor skills.
Language Development For young children, making art provides opportunities to learn words for colors, shapes & actions.

Children need to know more about the world than just what they can learn through text & numbers. Art education teaches children how to interpret, criticize, & use visual information, & how to make choices based on it. When kids are encouraged to express themselves & take risks in creating art, they develop a sense of innovation that will be important in their adult lives.

Creativity is the key to all of these. But the government has been putting an increasing emphasis on traditional subjects but squeezing out the arts. How can you not have a creative curriculum in the world we live in? http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/why-creativity-is-key-in-educating-our-children-for_ uk_5a703c88e4b0c06e6d1bcb89

The World Economic Forum released a report with the subtitle “Preparing People for the Future of Work”. The report states that, “Many of today’s education systems are already disconnected from the skills needed to function in today’s labour markets.” It goes on to underline how schools tend to focus primarily on developing skills within more traditional subjects – rather than fostering skills like problem solving, creativity or collaboration. This should be cause for concern when looking at the skill set required in the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Complex problem solving, critical thinking and creativity are the three most important skills a child needs to thrive, according to the Future of Jobs Report. https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2017/09/skills-children-need-work-future-play-lego/

When we look at skills like collaboration, co-operation, communication, problem-solving, what they have in common is empathy. Without empathy any one of these skills would be nearly impossible to attain. The arts have a great capacity to help people develop empathy.
