Explore, Create, and Perform! Ages 5 - 7 and 8 - 10 THEMED DRAMATICS CLASSES During our fun-filled summer camp, students will be introduced to the world of theater. While encouraging self-expression and boosting confidence, students will work together to build their “Actor’s Toolbox”; made up of the voice, the body, and the imagination. They will participate in numerous acting exercises, games, and arts & crafts. Our students will use what they have learned to create their very own play based on the theme of the class (and with a new theme for each week, the possibilities are endless)! This all-new production will be performed for family and friends in a huge celebration at the end of the week!

INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ CAMP Ages: 11 - 14, $275.00 Class is limited to 30 participants June 5 - 9, 9am - 4pm Jazz has been around for over 100 years, what keeps it alive is the creative spirit of improvisation. Learn the art of creating your own music through an understanding of the harmonic changes of jazz standards. Discover the secrets that make you a better musician and make music above and beyond what is on the written page. A minimum of two years experience playing an instrument is required. Participation assures an invitation to join the Ruth Eckerd Hall Jazz Band. Camp includes jazz instruction including jazz theory and history, plus workshops with visiting artists. Past workshops have featured Chick Corea, Dave Koz, and Eric Darius.

SHOWSTOPPERS Ages: 8 - 14, $250.00 June 26 - 30, 9am - 3pm Through this camp, students get a glimpse of what it is like being in a show choir. With tight ensemble singing, a wide variety of music repertoire and dazzling moves, our young shining singers transform into sparkling stars. Students will also learn how to collaborate with other art forms, as they work on a number with the School of Rock camp, and the Dance for Musical Theater camp which are happening during the same week. On Friday, there will be a final presentation for friends and family, showcasing everything they have learned.
SCHOOL OF ROCK Ages: 10 - 14, $250.00 June 26 - 30, 9am - 3pm Pull the guitar out of the closet, find the drum sticks buried under the bed, and plug in the keyboard that has been in the case forever! This is the time for you to explore your favorite sounds and styles of music with fellow young aspiring musicians. School of Rock focuses on music appreciation, history, basic theory, and most importantly group collaboration‌..jamming!! Students will take time to listen to music from past and present, analyze it, learn the influences of the artist who created it and then apply it to our own original or cover compositions. Students will also learn how to collaborate with other art forms, as they work on a number with the Showstoppers camp, and the Dance for Musical Theater camp which are happening during the same week. Previous playing experience is preferred, however all are welcome!

THE ACTING DEAD: ZOMBIES Ages: 11 - 14, $250.00 June 12 - 16, 9am - 3pm Who knew being scared could be so much FUN! The Zombie has been a source of great scary stories for young adults for decades‌and now it’s your turn to continue the frights! Students will create their very own spooky characters and stories to delight (and fright) their audiences at the end of the week!
STAR WARS LIGHT SABER COMBAT Ages: 11 - 14, $250.00 June 26 - 30, 9am - 3pm Ever want to fight with a lightsaber? Then this class is for you! Work with our staff as we develop the techniques that make stage combat safe for the actors...and thrillingly realistic for the audience. Using Star Wars as a theme, we will develop a script and performance that demonstrates the art of stage combat.

Musical Theater BROADWAY BOUND
Ages: 11 - 14, $350.00 Class is limited to 40 participants June 12 - 23, 9am - 4pm Performances: Friday, June 23, 7pm and Saturday, June 24, 2pm & 7pm Murray Theatre Join us for a two week, intensive performance journey as we collectively create a Broadway musical review. Broadway Bound emphasizes the building of students’ confidence as they engage all three components of musical theater: acting, singing and dancing. This summer, students will get a taste of the professional world, and what it takes to really set their sights on the Big Apple. Join us as we train the next generation of performers, and prepare yourself to be Broadway Bound!

In this Tony-winning favorite, superstar “Conrad Birdie” (the musical’s stand-in for Elvis) arrives in Sweet Apple, Ohio to give a lucky girl “one last kiss” before his induction into the Army. Set in a bygone world of soda fountains, screaming fans and Ed Sullivan, the nostalgic Bye Bye Birdie overflows with comedy, romance, dance numbers and fun! With a three week intensive rehearsal period, the actors will focus on vocal production and character development, creating an expressive ensemble that brings characters to life, captivating audiences, young and old alike. Come on a journey back to the 1950’s and say Bye Bye to all your worries!

Dance
DANCE ON CAMERA Ages: 11 - 18, $250.00 June 5 - 9, 9am - 3pm Music Videos, Live Concerts, Viral Youtube sensations. Nearly all of these have some sort of dancing artist featured in them. This class is your chance to learn the intricacies of taking your dance skills, and honing them for use in the world of video and film. You will learn the how to setup and shoot multiple projects, from audition tape to full choreographed pieces. All skill levels are welcome, and students will leave this class with some recorded work that they can use in their next dancing adventure!
DANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATER Ages: 13 - 18, $250.00 June 26 - 30, 9am - 3pm Becoming a triple threat takes dedication and practice. This camp will teach you what the world of dancing in Musical Theater really is like. Learn to blend singing, acting, and movement to help propel the story forward and make sure you stand out as a true professional onstage. Students in this camp who are also enrolled in our production of Bye Bye Birdie will receive extra considerations for dance numbers in the show.
TIP TAP TOES: DANCERS & SINGERS Ages: 6 - 10, $200.00 July 3 - 7, 9am - 3pm (no class July 4th) It’s never too early to learn to dance and sing! In this special camp, students will work on age appropriate dance and singing techniques to build the solid foundation needed to grow their talent. Students will work with our premier Dance and Vocal instructors to find their inner performer that is ready to be set free!

ON CAMERA: HOW TO AUDITION Ages: 11 - 14, $250.00 June 19 - 23, 9am - 3pm • Do you want to work in TV/Film/Commercials but don’t know what you need to do? • Have you ever gotten an audition and wondered how to prepare? • Do you feel a little panicky when you have an audition looming? • Have you ever left an audition and known you didn’t do your best? Many talented actors fail to book, get callbacks or even get an agent because they don’t know how to audition. Knowing what to expect, and more importantly knowing how to prepare will make all the difference.
ON CAMERA: ACTING 101 Ages: 8 - 10, $200.00 July 3 - 7, 9am - 3pm (no class July 4th) Acting 101 includes all the basic tools of the best professional actors: improvisation, character development, script development, the audition process, and camera technique. • You will learn memorization and imagination techniques which enhance other aspects of your life as well, through creative ensemble games. • You will explore the best ingredients of great acting, including character development, urgency/ heightened energy, specificity, discovery and subtext, spontaneity, vulnerability, and creating the space around you, along with the relationships with other actors/ characters. • You will understand what “in the moment” means as an actor, learning to connect with other actors through improvisation and relationship building. • You will discover creativity, focus and imagination within yourself that you may not have realized was there, will be surrounded by a positive, supportive environment in which to make new friends, and may even come away with that urge to explore a more professional path!

ON CAMERA: COMMERCIALS Ages: 11 - 14, $250.00 July 10 - 14, 9am - 3pm Commercials are among the most prolific and profitable types of work for an actor, however, few actors take the time to properly train and develop their skills for commercial work. Areas of focus will include: understanding your target market, analyzing commercial copy, camera technique specifically for commercials, product handling technique, and delivering a solid, natural and believable message.
ON CAMERA: FILM & TV Ages: 11 - 14, $250.00 July 17 - 21, 9am - 3pm • Do you love to act but feel anxious about performing? • Do you feel confused when asked to create a character? • Do you focus on memorizing your lines, then worry about forgetting them? • Have you ever forgotten your lines and panicked? • Do you worry that you won’t know what to do with a role when you get one? • Are you afraid you won’t know what’s expected of you on a film or TV set? If you answered YES to any of the above, then your approach to acting is actually getting in the way of your acting, and is keeping you from delivering the best of yourself in both an audition and on set. Music Revolution Project Ages: 14 - 21 • July 10 - August 4

WHAT is the Project? This is a FREE intensive four week program including instruction, rehearsals and mentoring with award-winning artists, directors and composers. It offers talented youth in the area the chance to engage in musical workshops, songwriting courses, mentoring sessions, record the material they’ve written and perform their new work live. WHEN does the program take place? Project Tampa Bay will take place from July 10 to August 4, 2017 (various times each day). A formal student performance will take place on Friday, August 5 on the Ruth Eckerd Hall main stage for family, friends, and fans. Students must participate in all four weeks of the program. WHO should apply? Talented high school and college students ages 14 – 21 are encouraged to apply. WHERE will this be held? The Marcia P. Hoffman School of the Arts at Ruth Eckerd Hall will house the program. WHY would this benefit me? • You will be working with professionals in the music industry. • You will broaden your musical and creative skills, while establishing relationships, increasing your self-esteem, and developing entrepreneurial skills. • This is a highly selective program. • Alumni of the Project will garner important connections to the music industry, colleges, and the ability to continue to work with the project in future years. Past participants include local music sensation The Ries Brothers, who have gone on to perform and open at events and concerts nationwide for Daughtry, Firefall and Chicago – as well as their own SOLD-OUT concerts at Ruth Eckerd Hall’s Murray Theatre. HOW do I apply? Students must submit: • Application - click HERE • A personal statement describing how music plays a role in their life and, if chosen, what they would like to gain from that experience. • A description of a new genre music they would like to create. • Letter of reference from a teacher or administrator. • Short audio or video clip of a performance (singing, playing an instrument, DJ’ing, producing, etc.). • Applications are due by May 5th.
