Professor Candelario was recently appointed as a member of the board of directors of the New Jersey Mental Health Institute whose mission is: “to increase the recognition, understanding and acceptance of mental illness and to identify and seek the establishment of effective mental illness prevention and treatment services.”

Funding

Professor Candelario the PI on a new Cigna Foundation grant of $62,000 with the following purpose: “through a partnership with Cigna, LISTA’s goal is to ensure Latinx communities are better served through workforce development

efforts that will increase the number of social workers prepared to work with them and who are committed to improving the health and wellbeing of individuals.”

Funding

Dr. van der Maas was recently awarded a Seed Grant: Online gambling and death by suicide: A quasi-experimental approach to gambling policy impacts. The total awarded $34,500 in 2022 The aim of the project is to use the Restricted Access Database of the National Violent Death Reporting System to investigate changes in the rate and characteristics of deaths by suicide in states that have legalized online casino gambling compared against synthetic controls.
