VARSITY SOCCER

Despite a record of 5-9, the 1984-85 Varsity Soccer team, under the leadership of captains Marc McMorris and Mike Sauter, managed to beat competitive teams such as Solebury and Neuman Prep. Team members Scott Metzger, Mike Sauter, and Barry Dunnigan made it to All State and All Conference teams as striker, goalie, and defenseman respectively. In addition, David Kahn, Marc McMorris, and Danny Gura also received honorable mention for All-State and All-Conference. Under the guidance of Coaches Delia, and Marotto, the team experienced a valuable rebuilding year. Co-captain Mike Sauter says "don't mess with me dude!!"

This year's J.V. soccer team was much better than what its 2-6 record indicates. Three losses were by only one goal. Team spirit was high and team members benefitted much from learning the finer points of the sport. The team was lead by sophomore cap tains, Ron Struminger, Craig Barrack, and Larry Weiss under the guidance of Coach Peter Hordijk. Some of the season's memorable moments were: . . . Bob's rightwing swan dive in the mud . . . Ron's 55 yard goal . . . Larry's imaginative use of bandaids . . . last game against Blair. A precedent was set in the 1984 cross country season that hopefully will con tinue. There was a full girls' cross-country team, for the first time. There was also the largest turnout of runners in Prep history. Despite the team's 5-8 record, the run ners kept their high spirits and performed well at the State meets. The team boasted wins over Ranney, Monroe, and Saddle River, while losing a number of close races due to team injuries. Team captain Danny Tam and freshman Chris Santi traded off as the team's number one runner. Able runners Matt Stella, Tom Conlon, and Tim Hart supported their efforts. The team loses only three seniors this year and is very optimistic for a winning season in 1985. With the help of new under-classmen, Coach Dougherty feels the team will be a strong competitor next year.

S occer Although the 1984-85 girls' soccer record is 4-7-1, the general consensus of the coaching staff is that the team im proved its game in several aspects. Not only did they improve their skills and fundamentals, but they increased their en durance and stamina tremendously. Tri-captains, Elaine Imbriani, Julia Lenaghan, and Erika Barnes proved to be excellent leaders. Erika led the team with 193 saves on goal. Aiding her on the defensive lines were Kama Bethel, Caroline Santowasso and Sue Metzger. The offense improved and more goals were scored this year. Contributing front linesmen were Michelle McGuire, Elaine Imbriani, Julie Cunjak, Jennifer Aberbach and Julia Lenaghan. Additional varsity players include front linesmen Michelle Goldsmith and Jamie Weinberg, and halfbacks Stefanie Bardin, Jennifer Clemente, Denise Goldman and Michelle Bressler.

GIRLS VARSITY TENNIS This year's tennis team was a special one in many ways. First, the team started the season with a new coach Jerry Marone. Prep lost many team members to gradua tion last year. Even with those disadvantages the team managed to pull together with a record of four wins and seven losses. Co-captains Anita Gopinathan and Sherrie RussellBrown proved to be inspirational leaders, setting the pace for our toughest matches against Peddie and Mont clair Kimberly. Senior Varsity players include First Singles Sherrie Russell-Brown, Second Singles Anita Gopinathan, and First Double player Paige MacDonald. Underclassmen are Third Singles Meredith Shapiro, First Doubles Suzie Rechterman, Second Doubles Caryn Schecter and Elyssa Silverman. We are hoping that the 1985 season will be equally successful. Varsity Swimming

Under the direction of Coach Forney and Assistant Coach Kops, the 1984-85 swim team had a successful season despite cancelled meets, and pool difficulties. However, members kept their spirits high and ended the season with a record of five wins and three losses.* Co-captains Glenn ]acoby and Chrissy Holliday led the team with enthusiasm and talent, and participated in the 50 freestyle and 500 freestyle respectively. Barry Dunigan helped con sistently in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Paul Ludwig, Tom Conlon, Seth Grumet, and Dave Koninsberg added strength to the team. *The high points of the season were wins over Piscataway and Trenton High Schools.*

Varsi+u Basketball The girl's varsity basketball team was coached this year by newcomer Mary Klinger, assisted by Mike Delia. With hard work and long practices, the team improved shooting, reboun ding, and ball-handling skills. Before the start of the regular season, the team hosted the players from Archbishop Prendergast School in Philadelphia for several scrimmages and an overnight stay. In February the team took second place in the Moravian Invitational Tournament in Pennsylvania. Co captains Julie Lenaghan and Erika Barnes were named to the All Tournament Team by a vote of the coaches of teams present. The team scored impressive wins over Pennington, Blair, Linden Hall, and Mount Saint John's Academy. Finishing the year with a final record of four and eleven. Julia Lenaghan was named to the All State A team and Erika Barnes earned an honorable mention at the end of the season.

Although this year's team did not have the height of past teams, it can be looked up to and respected as the "mighty mites.” An 18-5 record and participation in the New Jersey Prep Conference Championship made this team the surprise of the winter season. High scorers and contributing factors were Senior and captain Jeff Hennessy, Juniors Stacey Adams, Dean Starker and Billy Coyer and Sohpomores Jason Tucker and Dave Dixon who led the team in offensive and defensive re bounding. New this year was the Blue Team, who performed well in practice and played in games as a unit. Tough com petitors came from schools such as Peddie adn Solebury. However, Prep dominated the scoreboard for more than 75% of the games. Overall, Coach O'Connell was impressed with the teams outcome this season. Captain Jeff Hennessy leads the team to victory!

VARSITY WRESTLING

Although plagued with injuries this year's Varsity Wrestling team had an outstanding season. The captains were senior Ken Kudo and junior Marc McMorris. The coaches were Mr. Dougherty and Mr. Morotto. The leadership and experience of the upperclassmen were a great help to the entire team. The team did well in the many tournaments in which it participated. Peter Alfinito took third place in the conference, and Joe Bornheimer received a silver medal. Conference champion and most valuable wrestler in the conference was Garikai Campell. In the state tournament, Peter Alfinito placed fourth and Garikai Campbell came in second.
