The Varsity Soccer team, under the direction of Coach Sperduto, had the best season in Prep’s history, winning 11 games, tying 2, and losing 6. Captain Rory O’Connell led the team in scoring with 25 goals, breaking the school and county records. Junior Rob Weiss was the second highest scorer with 8 goals. Senior goalie Richie Jasionowski had a strong season with 5 shut-outs. Richie took over the position of goalie after Dan Howell broke his elbow in the Princeton Day game. Senior Alec Chanin, who earned All-State recognition, held the team’s defense to gether with his aggressive play. Other seniors who greatly contributed to the team’s fine season were Scott Rutter, A1 Archer and Larry Kleinman. Since the team will lose only seven lettermen to graduation another successful season is anticipated next year.

J.V. Soccer The J.V.’s season was a successful one considering this young team. They won all games against oppositions of their own age group, and they finished on a winning note! The Cross Country team, guided by Mr. Fen stermaker, had a good season this year, avenging last year’s losses to Montclair, St. Pius, Immaculata, and Pennington by some very close races. The win over Montclair was the first in nine years. The Cross Country team showed much improvement over last year and is looking forward to a successful 1975 sea son, with the experience of Tony Scialabba, Peter Weprinsky, Joe Faraci, Gary Brown, Kevin Kane, Jeff Rutter, and Robert Murray. The team will certainly miss the graduating seniors, Captain Doug Van Pelt, Don Eng, Joe Butkus, and Jim Kane.

The girls cross country team in its second year made a considerable improvement over last year’s squad and gained a strong foothold here at Prep. They were very determined despite a constant re occurrence of twisted ankles, bad knees, and other assorted ailments. The season was truly a building one, with all of the squad returning and looking forward to a winning season next year.

“Go Go, Get ’em, Get ’em, Fight, Fight” were the continuous cries of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad during the 74-75 season. From the soccer season beginning with “Um, I wanna linger” to the “I hope there aren’t any more time outs” of basketball season, the Varsity Squad has had a wonderful year. Led by senior Captains Janice Sistrunk and Joann Lasker, with Beth Keusch and Betsy Dey, the squad has made a gallant effort toward more school support. Fund raising events such as lunch sales and bake sales were also part of the program. Other cheerleaders in cluded Kathy Brennan, Diane Dunn, Ruth Howell, Joyce Lahfares and Nina Passoff. Rah! Rah!

The Varsity Basketball Team of ’74-’75 enjoyed one of the best seasons in Prep history. Led by seven returning lettermen, including four starters, the team fulfilled almost all of its expectations. Completing the ten member squad were Ira Shapiro, a senior, and sophomores Tony Scialabba and John O’Connell. Coach Dick O’Connell’s Argonauts were led spiritually by senior co-captains Bob Vosbrinck and Rory O’Connell. Bob, from the forward position, and Rory at guard were the team leaders in assists. Dan Howell, a senior who started at the other guard position, was most effective against New Jersey’s number one private school, Newark Academy, when he netted 23 points while shooting an amazing 85%. Leading in ability, scoring, and rebounding were Prep’s two junior superstars Nate Mullins and Todd Milligan. Todd, a prime college candidate, led Somerset County in scoring, averaging better than twenty-one points per game. In February he became Prep’s sixth player to score a career 1000 points. As a sophomore, he was selected for second team All-County. Adding to the list of honors, Todd Milligan was selected for the second consecutive year for the Riverdale Invitational Tournament All-Tourney Team, a tournament in which Prep has reached the finals for two straight years. Scoring close to eighteen points per game, Nate led the team in rebounding and shot-blocking. Also selected for the R.I.T. All-Tourney Team, Nate has impressed several college coaches, and along with Todd, will be visited by many of them next year. Dave Rockhill and Jim Romano, both seniors, also saw frequent action. In the forward spot, Dave was often called upon to enter the game in tough situations and did a commendable job. Jim, from the guard position, also helped in pressure situations. One must not forget to mention Phil Kosnett, the manager and scorekeeper who missed but one of 29 games. With four returning lettermen, Oke has expectations of as fine a season as he has had in the past six years, in which Prep teams have won over one hundred and twenty-five games!

The ’74-’75 Junior Varsity Basketball team excelled under the direction of their new coach, Tony DiPaulo. The team was led to an 8-10 season by juniors Ken Fried, Peter Weprinsky, Sol Kaim and sophomores Dave Mar gulies and John Kontos.

The girls had a very rewarding year, defeating many tough opponents with the combination of good shooting, great teamwork, and fine coaching. Their record did not reach their expectations, but they feel this was due to four snowed out games, all of which they considered sure victories. The girls regret the loss of Randy Roberts, the only senior on the team, but with a squad composed mostly of underclassmen, they look forward to a very promising future.

The Girl’s Volleyball Team, which had its most successful season in its history at Prep, consisted mainly of seniors. Of these seniors, Heather Sperduto, who received the Most Valuable Player Award, was remarkably consistent in helping the team to victory. The two juniors on the team, Captain leva Miesnieks and Vicky Banko, plan to continue playing volleyball and will encourage many underclassmen to join the team.

This year’s varsity wrestling team, coached by Mr. Frezza had one of its most successful seasons. The team finished this year with an 11-4 record and a third place in the state tournament. Besides these great team accom plishments, there were great individual achievements. Captain Doug Jones finished his last year of high school wrestling undefeated and went on to win the state championship. Paul Grippo also won his title as state champion for the second consecutive year. Dave Yurcisin in his first year of varsity wrestling went undefeated throughout the season and placed second in the state tourna ment. Although the team will miss the determination and leadership of Doug Jones, they look forward to a bright and promising future.

The 1974-75 swim team, led by senior co-captains Jeff Schwartz and Terry Dunn, finished the season with a record of 4-10, making this one of its most successful seasons in the past ten years. Under the watchful eye of Coach Fenstermaker, each swimmer worked and improved, making his/her contribution to the team. The coach was especially watchful this year as girls were allowed on the team for the first time. Especially excellent performances were turned in this season by sophomores Robert Murray, Roman Bukachevsky and Rick Zankel, juniors Gary Brown, Tom Flynn and Charlie Daniels and seniors Jim Kane, Joe Butkus, Scott Rutter, Jeff Schwartz and Terry Dunn. When one thinks of the swim team, one should think of pride. Pride in the four victories. Pride in their ability to withstand storms of cruel jokes. Pride in their ability to endure practices. Looking back on this season, members of the team are sure to remember the unity, friendship, cooperation and laughs experienced this year.

BASEBALL varsity Led by Senior Co-Captains Bob Vosbrinck and Scott Rutter, this year’s Varsity squad achieved great success. The pitching of Vosbrinck and Billy Hyman and the hitting of Rutter and Juniors Joe Yurcisin, Robert Campbell, and Howard Maltz combined to produce victories. Two key players to be relied on in the future are first baseman Rob Schneier and second baseman David Yurcisin. With eight players returning next year, the future is bright for the Argonauts.

With the loss of varsity members, this year’s varsity lacrosse season looked grim. Most of the remaining players had less than two seasons’ experience. At the beginning of the season, the team easily beat its weaker opponents but, despite the ex ceptional play of All-State goaltender Alec Chanin, lost to teams strong in basic skills. By mid-season, however, after an impressive showing against highly-ranked Edison, the young team began to gel and finished its season with a respectable record. Next season looks excellent, with the team losing only three of its experienced players.

Our tennis team showed both natural ability and perseverance. The team won its share of victories and has not been shut out in spite of its extremely tough schedule. Only three members of the nine-man varsity will be graduating. G irls The girls’ tennis team this year was without a doubt the strongest, most experienced in Prep’s history. Losing only two girls from last year, the team’s three singles players were all juniors who had been team members since the team’s establish ment in the ‘72—‘73 school year. Doubles teams consisted of juniors, sophomores, and some promising eighth graders.

This year’s softbarll team, under the fine direction of Coach Tina Leone, posted a respectable record despite the team’s lack of experience. Senior captain Heather Sperduto led a team composed mainly of sophomores and freshmen, some of whom had never before picked up a bat. This year was a rebuilding year, and we are looking forward to a good season next year.

The 1975 Varsity golf team was the most successful in Rutgers Prep history. Led by Senior captain Mitchell Shriber and Junior Russ Best, the golf team won many tough matches. Highlights of the season include a 36 by Russ Best vs. St. Peters, a 40 by Mitch Shriber, also against St. Peters, and an un precedented string of four consecutive victories.
