The movie Titanic made waves at the box office, people danced the macarena and a new era of fun, fitness and wellness began when Rush Copley Healthplex opened. In the 25 years since, fitness programs have evolved with Zumba and spinning becoming favorites. This fall and winter, you can enjoy these and many more new classes for a complete fitness experience. Flash back to 1997 with us to enjoy retro group fitness classes and events featuring music and moves from the 90s. Members may bring a guest for free. Fitness Classes ATAC Athletic Training and Conditioning (ATAC) is a high intensity, interval training class with intense cardio exercises in a circuit format. Each week has a different set of exercises set to fun, motivating music. On courts or outside (weather permitting). Body Blast Take your workout to the next level with high intensity interval training. Using a variety of

equipment each class, you will burn calories and build strength in a fun, motivating format. All fitness levels are welcome, modifications will be offered. Box Fit This fun, fast-paced, high energy and noncombat class introduces members to the stations of a boxer’s training regimen. Cardio Kickboxing This isn’t your average cardio kickboxing class. This intense mix of Western and Muay Thai style kickboxing will teach you proper striking techniques while improving your cardio, conditioning, core, flexibility and coordination in a non-combat setting. Gloves, mitts, kick shields and bags will be provided. Cardio Tennis An engaging class featuring tennis drills, games, and skills delivering a full body workout. A social activity for all ability and fitness levels. No previous tennis experience necessary. Kettlebell A kettlebell is a cast iron weight with a handle at the top. Using this versatile piece of equipment, participants will be led through a variety of exercises to develop full body strength and cardiovascular fitness. All levels are welcome. On the Ball This fun and motivating class focuses on strength, cardio, balance and core training utilizing stability or ballast balls and resistance equipment. All levels are welcome. Seniors of Steel Build strength and increase your balance, endurance, flexibility and bone mass in this class designed specifically for active older adults. Class incorporates light weights and light cardio. NEW! Pound Fit This workout fuses cardio interval training with drumming combined with Pilates moves to provide a challenging, heart-pumping workout. Spin Indoor cycling class for cardio endurance. Instructors use visual imagery and motivational music so each ride is a new adventure. All skill levels welcome. If this is your first time taking a

spin class, please arrive 10 minutes before the start of class. Step Step is a fast-paced, fun and high intensity cardio workout. This class involves stepping up and down a rectangular platform with advanced choreography and motivational music. NEW! Total Body Strength Work muscle groups with a variety of strength and conditioning exercises. This athletic-based sculpting class works your upper and lower body using resistance including hand weights, body bars or body weight. Zip Fit — 30 minutes In 30 minutes, you’ll torch calories in this high intensity interval training class. Each week will be a varied, full body format. All levels are welcome, modifications will be offered. Zumba Zumba fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow dance moves for a fun, energizing workout. Routines incorporate interval training (fast and slow rhythms) to help improve cardiovascular health.

Mind and Body Classes Alignment Based Yoga This class focuses on correct alignment of the yoga postures and is appropriate for those new to yoga, as well as experienced yoga practitioners. NEW! Barre A workout technique inspired by elements of ballet, yoga and Pilates. It focuses on low-impact, high-intensity movements designed to strengthen and lengthen your body. NEW! Sit and Fit Designed for those members looking for a gentle class to help improve range of motion, strength, and flexibility. This is a low intensity class for those with joint or mobility limitations looking to maintain or improve functional fitness. Gentle Yoga A calming practice designed for older adults or those new to yoga. Hatha Yoga This class offers a basic introduction to yoga postures. You will move your body slowly and deliberately into poses that challenge your strength and flexibility, while focusing on relaxation and mindfulness.

Pilates A low-impact workout to stretch, strengthen and lengthen the entire body with an emphasis on technique and core muscles. All levels are welcome. Restorative Yoga This practice integrates myofascial massage, gentle movement, breathwork and meditation to calm the nervous system. Find ease of body and peace of mind during this mood-enhancing class. NEW! Roll and Renew Increase range of motion and restore healthy movement by use of a foam roller. Myofascial massage paired with creative exercise principles assist the process. Vinyasa Yoga A fluid, intensive practice that links breath with movement. Adult Fitness Programs Register online for adult fitness classes NEW! Arthritis and Joint Replacement Movement Class Designed specifically for those with arthritis or joint replacement. This safe and effective class taught by certified and experienced instructors will address mobility, stability and balance to strengthen joints gently. This class will include functional movements to enhance daily quality of life. Instructor, Judy Siek is a certified 500 hour Yoga instructor, Pilates instructor, Certified Strength instructor and has first-hand knowledge of joint replacement. 8-week program. NEW! Date Night with a Twist – Let’s Dance Shed your sneakers for your dancing shoes and try something new! Whether you have 2 left feet or can bust-a-move, this class is for you. Learn the art of finding rhythm, moving your feet and executing lead/follow cues. Let’s build your confidence on the dance floor. Time: 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Fee: $25 Member, $35 Nonmember (Per couple/per class) Box Step/Wedding Dance Who knew a box could be so fun? Once you know the basics, the Box Step can be danced to Waltz, Rumba and Fox Trot rhythms — or simply stated — most of those slow songs at a wedding. Let this be the class that calls to you “When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance!” Date: Friday, September 16 Swing/Jitterbug 1 Syncopated steps, spins and turns make Swing dancing exciting and fun! As an added bonus, the moves translate to Big Band, Sock Hop, Country Western and Pop dance music. Master this class and sign up for Part 2 in November. Date: Friday, October 7 Swing/Jitterbug 2 Practice what you learned in Swing 1 and add a few more spins to build your step repertoire. Cross Arm Slide and Back Pass may sound like kettlebell moves, but they are much cooler. You’ll be “cutting the rug” like the best of them in no time Date: Friday, November 11


Adult Fitness Programs Register online for adult fitness classes NEW! Mom and Tot Stroller Fit Trainers include strength, cardio, and core in a fun and socially engaging environment. NEW! Self-Defense Workshop for Women and Teens This one-day workshop is designed for women and teens to teach common sense approaches to personal safety. Self-defense means both the physical act of defending yourself from attack and the precautions you can take to prevent trouble before it gets physical. The class will have a short lecture on the fundamental principles of avoid, fight, escape, followed by practicing escapes from grabs and striking targets.

NEW! Tai Chi Chuan This Chinese art of self-defense is based on sensitivity, timing and leverage rather than strength. Practiced mostly with slow, gentle, low impact, low contact movements, an ideal art for all ages and level of fitness. Helps improve balance, encourage good circulation and promote stress reduction. Instructor Dave Carr has been practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan for more than 30 years. 8-week program. Date: September 6 – October 27

Pre-teen and Teen Fitness Programs Register online for pre-teen and teen fitness classes

Youth Fit Orientation Learn the fundamentals of fitness, exercise safety and fitness center rules and etiquette. This free orientation is required for members 11 to 15 years old who want to use the fitness center. Pre-registration is required. Call (630) 978-6280 to schedule an appointment. Teen Strength and Fitness This class is designed as a beginner course into weight and strength training for teens ages 11 to 15. Under the guidance of a certified personal trainer, teens will learn the proper techniques to strength training to ensure both safety and effectiveness. The trainer will guide participants through a variation of light to moderate weight, dumbbell, machine, plyometric and body weight exercises. 4-week sessions. Dates: August 27 – September 24 October 1 – October 22 October 29 – November 19 November 26 – December 17 No class on September 3

Private Sports Training This program gives athletes or enthusiasts the opportunity to train in a one-on-one sports training session with a certified Healthplex personal trainer. Training sessions are available for sport-specific performance, overall fitness, resistance training, cardiovascular endurance and speed and agility. Age: 8 to 16

Health Specialty Programs Movement Disorders Program For people living with a movement disorder, exercise and physical activity can help improve symptoms and mental well-being. At Rush Copley Healthplex, we offer a variety of free classes to help improve strength, balance, and cardiovascular fitness for those who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and other movement disorders. For more information call (630) 978-6280. Delay the Disease This exercise class is designed specifically to help slow the progression of movement disorders symptoms. Each class is designed to improve balance, strength, stability and cardiovascular fitness. Tuesday and Thursday Level 1 and 2 • 1 to 1:45 p.m. Level 2 • 2 to 2:45 p.m. Level 3 • 3 to 3:45 p.m. Mind and Body Mind and Body training is one of the most beneficial complementary therapies for Parkinson’s disease, helping to increase flexibility, improve posture, loosen tight, painful muscles, build (or rebuild) confidence and enhance quality of life. Friday • 12 to 12:45 p.m. Rock Steady Boxing Affiliated with Rock Steady Boxing, a nonprofit that was created to help people with Parkinson’s improve their quality of life, this non-contact boxing program allows participants to “fight back” against the disease, feel comfortable and gain confidence in their abilities. This safe and engaging progressive fitness program will challenge, motivate and inspire you. Last Thursday of each month Level 3 • 3 to 3:45 p.m.

NEW! Pedal for Parkinsons Riding an indoor stationary bicycle has been shown to reduce Parkinson’s symptoms by as much as 35%. Yoga for Cancer Survivors This safe and effective yoga class is designed for Cancer Survivors to help promote an active and energetic lifestyle. Instructor, Judy Siek is a certified 500 hour Yoga instructor, Pilates instructor, Strength instructor, and carries the Cancer Exercise Specialist Advanced Qualification. 8-week session. $80 Member $110 Nonmember Saturdays (beginning September 10) 11 to 11:45 a.m. Fit 4 Life-Cardiac Rehab Fit 4 Life is for eligible participants who have recently completed Rush Copley's Cardiac Rehab program and have the ability to exercise without assistance. Physician approval is required. Term: six-month membership with option to join as an all-access member after the initial term. $28/month for 6 months Return to Activity Program Return to Activity Programs are specialized training programs available to patients following the completion of treatment and therapy with Rush Copley’s Hand and Upper Extremity Program. Participants will be guided by a personal trainer through safe and effective exercises, to help regain strength, mobility and range of motion required for daily and recreational activities. A referral from a Castle Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine physician is required. 6-week program includes 10 sessions for $350.

Personal Training There is no better way to get in shape than to work with your own personal fitness trainer. At Rush Copley Healthplex, our degreed and certified personal trainers will work closely with you to customize an exercise program to maximize your efforts in reaching your own specific fitness goals. With their one-on-one attention and guidance, you’ll benefit from the added motivation you may not otherwise have working out on your own. Specialties include: strength training, flexibility training, assisted stretching, core conditioning and weight management. We also offer training for other health specific needs such as post rehabilitation, post-cardio/pulmonary rehabilitation, pre-natal or post-natal, Parkinson’s disease and chronic conditions including diabetes, hypertension and fibromyalgia. How to Get Started Choose your personal trainer, or ask us to help select one for you based on your goals and their areas of expertise. After you purchase your training package, we will contact you to schedule your first meeting. Single sessions or packages are available. If you wish to work with a trainer weekly, we offer a monthly subscription option. Once weekly includes four total sessions per month. Twice weekly includes eight total sessions per month. It is a lot easier to focus on your workout when your mind isn’t worrying about your little ones. Kids Active Club is a 5,200-square-foot childcare area within Rush Copley Healthplex that is available for our members with children from ages 6 weeks to 12 years. Our daily activities keep things fun, fresh and exciting for your child so you can work out, swim or just relax. Enclosed within Kids Active Club, we offer an Infant Care room, a climbing wall, a “Beam” interactive floor activity, scooters, games, basketball hoops and much more!

Kids Active Club For ages 3 to 12 years Our unique program is broken down by age, allowing us to provide age-appropriate activities that are overseen by our energetic and active childcare associates. Our goal is to not only keep your child active while you are working out, but to promote a positive fitness experience for all children enrolled in our program. Club Climb is available during the noted hours on the program schedule. A Personal Transport Service is included in your membership and allows us to take your child to their class while you do yours. Children may visit Kids Active Club for up to 2 hours per visit.

Learn to Swim Class Levels Water Babies/Parent-Tot Water Babies (6 months to 2 years) Focus is on water adjustment, safety skills and a great time to bond with your child. One parent per child per day may participate. Parent-Toddler (2 to 3 ½ years) Children will learn exploration and basic propulsion skills through water play. A great time to bond with your child. One parent per child per day may participate. Preschool (3 ½ to 5 years) Preschool 1 Students will explore the water and learn to be comfortable in aquatic environments. They will learn the basic ideas of floating and airway control. Prerequisite: Mentally ready to participate without a parent present. Preschool 2 Students will perfect their front and back glides and add arm paddles and kicks with the glides. Rolling and treading water will be introduced. Prerequisite: Submerge completely and blow bubbles, float on back and front with minimal support. Preschool 3 Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes. They will learn the elementary backstroke and treading water. Safety skills will be reinforced. Prerequisite: Able to swim independently 15 yards on front and back. Youth (6 to 13 years) Youth Level 1 Students will explore the water and learn to be comfortable in aquatic environments. They will learn front and back floats, glides and proper air control. Youth Level 2 Students will perfect their front and back glides and add arm paddles and kicks with the glides. They will

learn to swim 10 yards with rolling for air when needed. Back crawl and treading water will be introduced. Prerequisite: Submerge completely and blow bubbles. Float and glide on front and back by themselves. Youth Level 3 Students will coordinate the front and back crawl strokes and will learn the elementary backstroke and treading water. Safety skills will be reinforced. Prerequisite: Swim 10 yards on front rolling to back for air when needed. Swim 10 yards on back using arms and legs to propel. Youth Level 4 Students will build and improve on the front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. They will be introduced to the breast stroke and side stroke and turns at the wall. Prerequisite: Swim front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke for 25 yards each and tread water for 30 seconds. Youth Level 5 Students will refine and improve endurance in the front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. They will learn the butterfly stroke and flip turns. Prerequisite: Swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke, 25 yards of breaststroke and sidestroke and tread water for 2 minutes. Junior Stroke Students will continue to refine all strokes to perform with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness. They will learn the fundamentals of personal water safety. This class is intended to help students develop an interest in lifelong fitness and help them prepare for advanced aquatic activities such as competitive swimming or lifeguard training. Prerequisite: Swim all strokes well for 50 yards and tread water for 5 minutes.

Private and Semi-Private Swim Lessons Private and semi-private swim lessons are available for all ages, toddler through adult. Our experienced staff are all lifeguard certified and/or Water Safety Instructor certified (WSI) and our instructors have an average of 10 years teaching experience at the Healthplex. Junior Tennis Classes Red Ball (4 to 7 years old) 36’ Court Players will develop agility, balance and coordination, movement patterns, forehand, backhand, serve, return, volleys, court positions and scoring. Recommend 1-2 times/week. Red Ball Elite (Placed by Pro) 36’ Court Players will develop court coverage, ability to recognize open space, prepare for Red Ball play and begin transition to Orange Ball tennis. Orange Ball (8 to 10 years old) 60’ Court Players will develop agility, dynamic balance, complex coordination, pace, spin and approach shot to volley and overhead patterns. Orange Ball Elite (Placed by Pro) 60’ Court Players will develop adaptive shot selection, use of angles, emerging strengths, prepare for Orange Ball play and begin transition to Green Ball. Green Ball Elite (Placed by Pro) 78’ Court Player will develop advanced technical, strategic and footwork patterns necessary for competition.

Competition 11-14 (11 to 14 years old) 78’ Court For athletes new to the game or returning after a hiatus. Groundstrokes, volleys and serves, returns will be introduced. Ability to rally, keep score and play a match in singles and doubles will be a major component. Competition High School (Incoming Freshmen to Seniors) 78’ Court Incoming freshmen and returning high school tennis players build singles and doubles skills. Live ball rallies and point play while building skills will be the main emphasis. Academy (Placed by Pro) 78’ Court Grouped according to skill and experience. Students will develop complex coordination, control, game style, shot selection, advanced footwork, mental toughness, advanced strategy and tactics, goal setting and physical fitness. Academy prepares students for competition ranging from high school to national levels.

Focusing on the fundamentals of the game and stroke development, this class will help players build a solid foundation to launch their game. Pickleball Join us for the fastest growing sport in North America. Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis and badminton on a modified court. If you’re a beginner who wants to learn a new sport for fun, or an experienced player seeking competitive play, then this is for you. Open Play For all players and levels who want to participate in drop-in games without having to find opponents. The perfect place to meet new pickleball friends and have fun. Courts will be reserved for pickleball on select days and times. Members may reserve up to two weeks in advance, guests may walk-on open courts on the day they are playing.
