PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2026
Locals know locals best! There's no better way to discover the best of Bayou Country than by asking the people who call it home. After all, we're the ones who shop in these stores, dine in these restaurants, trust these local professionals, and make memories at these hometown favorites.
For a fourth year in a row, we asked the public what the People's Choice was for your favorite local businesses, local hot spots, local restaurants and so much more! The Point of Vue People's Choice 2026 contest places the voice of the people first! Across more than 140 categories, readers cast their votes to recognize the very best Terrebonne and Lafourche have to offer.
Through open online voting, we asked our community to share their “Point of Vue” by taking part in the People's Choice process. The process began with public nominations from April 1 through May 1, 2026, followed by online voting from May 18 through May 30, 2026. Each email address was allowed one vote per category because, as we like to say, if one vote is enough to elect a president, it's certainly enough to choose our local favorites!
Each year, we take a close look at the contest and discuss if it is still worth holding a local contest that would take up so much of our team's time. For us, the answer was YES! We realized that the one big goal for this issue was to be able to share as many local businesses as possible with our readers! Where else can you find an outstanding list of so many local businesses all in one place?! Our hope for this contest truly is to bring dollars into the doors of small businesses in our community. Maybe you will see a business in a certain category that you may not have heard of before
and stop by to see why they were nominated or even won! Maybe you will be reminded of a business you haven't been into in a while, and stop by to see what's new! Whatever your reason, we hope to remind our community of the importance of shopping and doing business with other local businesses.
The results listed in this issue are listed in place order. While we allowed up to five options in each category, if five businesses were not nominated, we just rolled with it! As you browse the winners, keep an eye out for our special ribbons recognizing multi-year champions, first-time winners, new categories, and photo-finish races.
We know that we aren't the only “best of” show in town. But we do feel we are the
fairest and the one that actually caters to the small business we claim to support. As a small business ourselves, we do not ask businesses to buy expensive tickets and tables to a banquet to drag out the contest or require our winners to purchase anything to discover the contest results. All winners are contacted prior to publishing and provided with a free media kit with graphics to help them announce their win on social media or to print for display in their business. We do offer advertising in this special issue, but no one is required to buy to discover if they won. Our true goal really is to hopefully shine a light on a business you might not be familiar with and perhaps help drive small business growth.
This special issue is no small feat for our staff, either! Hours upon hours went into crunching data, contacting nominees and then the winners! Special shout out to Bonnie Rushing and Ashley Bourgeois for all the time they put into this issue each year. It would not be possible without them!
Overall, this contest is always a wonderful experience for our team here at Point of Vue. We LOVE putting together this issue that represents the best of our community. We enjoy seeing the coming together of local businesses to support one another. Our hearts were warmed by how many of you took the time to share another business's social media post letting you know they fit into a certain category, or that they were nominated! Without the help of our amazing community, this contest would not be successful.
Thank you for supporting the People's Choice. You won't find another one in this area that puts so much love into the final product. POV
What was your favorite high school or college tradition?
HALEY
TIFFANY
The morning pledge!
My favorite high school tradition was homecoming week because it brought the entire school together in a fun and exciting way. Each day had a different spirit theme, and it was always enjoyable to see students and teachers participate by dressing up and showing their school pride. The pep rally, football game, and homecoming dance made the week feel special and created lasting memories with friends. Homecoming week was a tradition that made school more enjoyable and gave everyone something to look forward to each year.
DAMIEN
Every homecoming football game, our school held a tradition of burning the letter "W" to represent our mascot, the Warriors, followed by a large bonfire. This was my favorite event throughout high school because it brought the entire community together of students, teachers, staff, alumni, and supporters to celebrate our school spirit and pride. It was a memorable tradition that fostered a strong sense of unity and belonging.
JERWASKI
My favorite high school tradition was the alma mater being played by the Regiment after games. My favorite college tradition is celebrating Homecoming weekend during football season.
LONNIE
My favorite high school or college tradition would have been walking across the stage at graduation. It represented years of hard work. I set my goals and never gave up on myself. Having the support of my family, teachers and friends was so important. I have to mention my second choice—let's not forget Crawfish Day at Nicholls State!!!! Geaux Colonels!!!
A HOME AWAY FROM HOME
BY BONNIE RUSHING | PHOTOS SHANNON BELLA
For many families, preparing for college means more than checking off a packing list. It's about creating a place where students feel grounded during one of life's biggest transitions.
With layered textures, timeless furnishings and personalized details, decorator Shannon Bella (@KnightNDayDesigns) designed these two spaces in Baton Rouge to balance style with everyday living—proving that a home away from home can be just as beautiful as the one left behind. POV
Designed to welcome both students and visiting family, this home embraces a timeless, neutral palette layered with warm woods, woven textures and soft finishes. A spacious open-concept layout
encourages gathering, while tailored drapery, brass lighting and natural materials add warmth and sophistication throughout the main living spaces.
The result is a home that effortlessly
transitions from study sessions and game days to family weekends, offering comfort and style.
A classic foundation with youthful personality makes this space welcoming and beautifully balanced. Soft blush tones, cheerful artwork and playful accents bring energy to the bedroom, while clean-
lined furnishings and thoughtful styling keep the space polished and refined. A dedicated study area, layered bedding and coordinated accessories create a room that's equally suited for academics and downtime. By mixing timeless pieces with colorful details the space feels fresh, welcoming and ready to evolve through every season of college life. POV
There's no better way to discover the best of bayou country than by asking the people who call it home. After all, we're the ones who shop in these stores, dine in these restaurants, trust these local professionals, and make memories at these hometown favorites. Locals know Locals best!
Now in its fourth year, the Point of Vue People's Choice Awards once again puts the spotlight where it belongs: on the businesses, organizations, and places our community loves most. When we started this contest, we featured around 90 categories. This year, readers cast their votes to recognize the very best of Terrebonne and Lafourche in over 140 categories!
The process began with public nominations from April 1 through May 1, 2026, followed by online voting from May 18 through May 30, 2026. Each email address was allowed one vote per category because, as we like to say, if one vote is enough to elect a president, it's certainly enough to choose our local favorites!
The results featured in these pages are listed in order of finish. While each category allowed up to five finalists, some categories had fewer qualifying nominees and that's perfectly okay. As you browse the winners, keep an eye out for our special ribbons recognizing multi-year champions, first-time winners, new categories, and photo-finish races. Several categories were decided by only a handful of votes, proving that every vote truly mattered.
This year's cover features Annie LaPrairie, owner of Outside & In, recipient of Favorite Specialty Gift Store for the fourth consecutive year. What began years ago as a unique local shop has grown into one of the region's premier shopping destinations. With more than 12,000 square feet filled with gifts, home décor, outdoor furniture, grills, apparel, baby items, religious gifts, and plenty of Louisiana lagniappe, Outside & In has become a place where every visit offers something new to discover. Annie's continued commitment to exceptional customer service and an ever-evolving shopping experience has earned the loyalty of generations of local shoppers.
Congratulations to every business, organization, and individual recognized in this year's People's Choice Awards. Whether you earned a ribbon this year or received a nomination, you help make our community a wonderful place to live, work, and visit.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate and vote. Your participation is what makes these awards truly meaningful. We encourage you to continue supporting the local businesses that invest in our communities each and every day.

BOOST YOUR METABOLISM FOR MORE ENERGY, LESS WEIGHT
Summer heat and humidity can cause you to feel sluggish and lethargic. That's not unusual. However, a persistent lack of energy and difficulty with weight loss may indicate slow metabolism.
Metabolism is the body process that converts food into energy. If your body burns calories slowly, you likely have slow metabolism. Slow metabolism may be genetic, but you can control certain factors to boost it, gain energy and lose weight.
Get more exercise.
Increase exercise to increase your metabolism. More physical activity helps you avoid a sedentary lifestyle and begin to lose weight.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 150 minutes of moderateintensity activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity weekly. Try to achieve a daily step count of 8500 steps per day. Take the stairs instead of elevator. Park farther away. Get up routinely from sitting and take a brisk walk. Ride a bike, swim, do yard work. Find an activity that you enjoy and incorporate it into your daily lifestyle.
Reduce stress.
Stress causes the body to release cortisol, a hormone that slows metabolism and prompts the body to store fat. In stressful situations, the body produces cortisol for a quick burst of
energy. However, when chronically stressed, the body keeps making cortisol. High levels of the hormone make it harder for the body to use insulin, which slows metabolism and causes weight gain.
Reduce stress by being mindful in your daily activities. Breathe deeply, meditate, practice yoga, garden, take nature walks, watch comedies. Any activity that helps you relax and relieve tension lowers cortisol and increases metabolism.
Sleep well.
Adequate sleep habits keep your metabolism steady. Most adults need seven to nine hours of sleep nightly.
Some tips for a better night's sleep include:
• Avoid large meals, caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime
• Take a warm bath or hot shower
• Establish consistent sleep/wake routines
• Close screens 1-2 hours before going to bed
• Adjust thermostats (keep the room cool), noise machines and shades to block distractions
• Practice deep-breathing exercises
Eat a balanced diet.
Eating high-fat foods impacts how your body breaks down foods and nutrients. Add more
fruits and vegetables, beans, nuts, fish and lean meats.
Eating too little affects your metabolism the same as eating too much. Avoid drastic weight loss plans that can cause your body to cling to fewer calories, making it harder to lose weight.
Maintain regular meal times. When you eat is as important as what you eat. Skipping meals or grabbing food on the go affects your metabolism.
Stay hydrated.
Metabolism can stall without enough water, which helps the body burn energy and fuel weight loss. Sip water throughout the day and eat foods rich in water such as watermelon and cucumbers.
The long-standing guide is eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day, but the appropriate amount depends on your lifestyle, weather, exercise routine and other factors.
Before making major lifestyle changes, schedule an appointment with your physician. If you need a physician, you can use our Find a Doctor directory on our website at https:// www.thibodaux.com/find-a-doctor/ or call 985.447.5500.
