POV PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2023 Welcome to the People's Choice edition of Point of Vue! Yes, we’ve lost our minds… I blame the heat. People have asked me since June why we decided to take on a People’s Choice contest now, in our 17th year of publishing. The answer was quite simple. Our small businesses deserve it!
time coming. The way similar contests have been run in our community in the past did not allow all small businesses to have equal footing. Our contest required no purchase or remembering to vote daily. Let’s face it; we all have full time jobs! Who has the time to really do that if they are running a small business? As a small business
Locals know locals best. We are the ones who live here and shop at the businesses, utilize local services, and attend local events. We want to know what the People’s Choice is for your favorite local businesses, local hot spots, local restaurants and so much more! The Point of Vue People’s Choice 2023 places the voice of the people first! In over 80 categories, we asked you to share your favorites in Terrebonne and Lafourche. No more cookie cutter contests run by national companies. Let the locals take care of business! Through open online voting, we asked our community to share their “Point of Vue” by taking part in the People’s Choice process. Nominations took place from June 1- June 30, 2023 and voting took place from July 24 - August 4, 2023. You could only vote once per email address during the two week voting period. If one vote per person is good enough to elect a president, it’s good enough for us to select a favorite! I feel like this contest has been a long
able to share as many local businesses as possible with our readers! Our hope for this contest truly is to bring business into the doors of small businesses in our community. Maybe you will see a business in a certain category that you may not have heard of before and stop by to see why they were nominated or even won! Maybe you will be reminded of a business you haven’t been into in a while, and stop by to see what’s new! Whatever your reason, we hope to remind our community of the importance of shopping and doing business with other local businesses. This special issue was no small feat for our staff. Hours upon hours went into crunching data with the help of Lauren Hemstreet. It took weeks for us to reach out to as many nominees as possible, making drop-offs during the hottest summer ever with the help of our interns Maddy Robichaux and Madison Pontiff. What you are holding in your hands truly is the product of A LOT of sweat and a many happy tears!
ourselves, we know what it takes to make ends meet. We took a close look at what our goal was in holding a contest that would take up so much of our team’s time. Would it be worth it? For us, the answer was yes. We realized what the one big goal was for this issue - to be

Overall, this was a wonderful experience for our team here at Point of Vue. We are proud of the issue we have been able to produce and what it hopefully represents in our community. The coming together of businesses to support one another. Thank you for supporting the People’s Choice. POV

INTERVUE | SAY WHAT?
What is your favorite part about the fall in south Louisiana?
RHONDA —
GRANT —
ELIZABETH —
My favorite thing about the fall in South Louisiana is getting to spend every weekend cheering on my favorite football teams - the Saints and LSU, of course!
Cold fronts! There’s nothing better after a long summer than clear skies and cool crisp air!
My favorite things are the festivals, and craft shows. Especially going to Southdown Marketplace in the fall!
JOHN —
AMANDA —
BRETT —
Fall means football is back! I love to get together with friends and watch the games. Our household roots for LSU and the Saints. When the weather gets cool, you can find me on the back patio watching football all day. It can get pretty loud at times, so I do apologize to our neighbors!
Gumbo, football, and sooo many festivals! It’s the perfect time for all the outside fun without the heat stroke.
Enjoying the cooler evenings spent with friends and family. I love cooking outdoors while the kids are playing in the yard followed by a movie and popcorn on the big blowup screen.

FALL FAVORITES! BY BONNIE RUSHING | PHOTOS PROVIDED
A
s fall arrives we find ourselves infusing our homes with a touch of warmth that is uniquely ours. This month we join our friend Shannon Bella of Knight N Day Designs as she personalizes local homes for the season. Shannon's love for design and creativity has been a lifelong passion. From a young age, she recognized the impact her surroundings had on her well-
being. Despite limited resources, Shannon's ingenuity allowed her to transform even the simplest of spaces into something magical. Nearly two decades ago, Shannon embarked on her journey in holiday decorating, which evolved into curating extraordinary events, both grand and intimate. As her bond with clients October 2023 10 povhouma.com
deepened, she discovered her true calling— transforming homes into uniquely styled, organized sanctuaries. Shannon's design philosophy is grounded in the belief that style matters. Your home is an extension of yourself—a place where life unfolds. Follow Shannon Bella on social media at Knightndaydesigns for more ideas to inspire you this fall and all year long.
I
n this design, Shannon embraced the gentle, subdued, and timeless autumn hues, punctuated by touches of crisp white. She enjoyed integrating her clients' existing vases and candlesticks to create a curated look. By incorporating natural elements such as dried eucalyptus, wheat, and magnolia leaves into these arrangements they can easily last from Halloween until Thanksgiving.
October 2023 11 povhouma.com
I
n this home Shannon opted for a modern Halloween decor theme, characterized by a stylish blend of black and white, accented with vibrant neon colors. As part of this contemporary approach to Halloween, she added a unique touch by custom painting pumpkins and skeletons.
H
alloween doesn't always have to be eerie. In this home Shannon executes an elegant and enjoyable Halloween aesthetic. She incorporates lush greenery and a touch of sparkle to elevate the Halloween decor. Shannon also utilizes consistent colors and patterns throughout the home's decor to establish a unified and sophisticated appearance.

W
hy stick to traditional fall colors when you can embrace something different? In this design Shannon wove together a soothing palette of soft blue, elegant gold, and crisp white, which harmonizes with the existing decor throughout the home. By incorporating the vases and bowls already owned by her client, she achieved a harmonious blend of familiar and festive.
