CEO’s MESSAGE

Ways to help keep your bill comfortable

Many thanks to those of you who were able to attend our 83rd Annual Meeting either in-person or drive-thru. The meeting was a tremendous success, and we hope you enjoyed your time with us. We enjoyed the opportunity to greet and visit with each of you. We have already started planning for next year’s event, hoping to make it even more successful than this one. Please let us know if you have suggestions for improvement. This is your cooperative and we wish for this activity to meet your needs as well as fulfill the obligations of our bylaws. Fall has arrived and we have been blessed with days of milder temperatures and beautiful weather. However, autumn normally does not last long in central Oklahoma so I would encourage you to take advantage of the mild conditions and prepare your home for the more severe weather we are sure to encounter in the coming months. Taking the proper steps to winterize your home now will make you more comfortable and can pay dividends by reducing your winter electric bills. 2 Co-op Comments

A few energy saving tips include: • Opening your curtains and/or blinds during the day to allow sunlight to warm your home. Closing window coverings at night will provide an added layer of insulation. • Eliminate air leaks and drafts. Caulking and weather stripping around doors and windows can greatly reduce heat loss and prevent chilly air from entering the home. • Lowering the thermostat a couple of degrees will result in long-term savings. • Lower the setting on your water heater. Water heaters are the second highest source of energy usage in the home. Frequently, water heaters are set at a higher temperature than needed and will maintain their temperature twenty-hour hours a day. Lowering this temperature can result in real savings over time. • Regularly change the filter in your HVAC unit. This will allow for better air quality and allow your unit to run more efficiently. • Consider changing incandescent bulbs to LED for year-round savings. Many holiday decorations now use LED lighting, as well. • Consider purchasing a smart thermostat. These devices can be programed to adjust temperature settings for peak energy efficiency. REC offers rebates for programmable thermostats, please visit our website, www.recok.coop, for more information. These simple recommendations can make a significant difference in your monthly usage, resulting in savings on your electric bill. Energy Efficiency Tip of the Month Is your home heating system ready for the winter chill? One of the easiest ways to keep your system running efficiently is to regularly replace filters. If your central air system has a furnace filter, it should be replaced about every 90 days. If your home is heated through warm-air registers, baseboard heaters or radiators, remember to clean regularly to boost efficiency.
