the second winter of our tree

The amount of time we had spent staring at each other on the snow covered bench felt like forever, an eternity...

It was a frigid day in late January - it was a day well spent, we watered the pink hydrangeas we had grown together in the garden located near the back of our small, cozy home before resting. Her blinks were set at a slow pace as her fingers gently combed through my hair, which was longer than it is now, by a good few inches. A soft giggle came from her as I took her hand from my hair, intertwining it with mine - quite surprisingly, her delicate hands remained as warm as her gentle soul, despite the cold weather... I suppose I admire her strongly for being able to keep as warm, regardless of her having such a cold girlfriend as me. We both shivered as the wind softly blew once again, as the day began to grow more cold. I tugged her hand softly, as a way to signal it was getting too cold; I wanted to be inside our house, covered in a knitted blanket, where it was warm... but, she just gave me a comforting smile and tugged my hand back, as if it was some weird game she thought I wanted to begin playing with her.

If the feelings were lost, to time then time is the only thing that can bring them back. I love you forever, even if I don’t right now. I understand tides are on a cycle; A cycle determined by the moon. Funny because I used to talk to the moon about you, on those late nights when we were the only ones up. The high tide will return, although I’ve found comfort in my desert.

I am doomed to drown in my feelings for you, forever. Feelings that hold the strength of the ocean. The only oasis I have is time, and even she is made temporary in this dilemna. But if time dragged you away from me, perhaps it will bring you back. I loved you the first time. And I loved you the last. I loved you when I talked over you and when I stayed silent. Though I’m afraid the silence lost it’s love for me, where I used to find peace in it now all I can seem to find is a sinking feeling. As if my heart is trying to claw its way from my chest. It seems my heart knows it belongs to you. I talk to the moon when you’re not there. And ever since you left even she hides her face from me.
