The students squeaked out a win over the teachers at the annual staff-student hockey game, played in front of a large crowd at the Westside Rec Centre on February 4. The students jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They were able to fend off a late surge by the teach-

Plans are underway for the 2011 graduation ceremonies. The afternoon ceremonies will be at the Jubilee Auditorium on June 8. All parents, friends, and students are welcome to attend; special seating will be arranged for families of the graduating class. The evening

program, including the dinner and dance, will be held on June 10, at the Red & White Club.

Cap and gown photos will be taken February 28 – March 7 at the school.

Information about these photos was given to students on February 10.

Proofs should be delivered to the school prior to spring break. We will also keep students and families updated via emails.

The creative writing club is perfect for aspiring writers and those who just enjoy writing as a pastime. We plan to meet every Tuesday at lunch to share work and get feedback on it. Basketball and wrestling

The

three-on-three intramural basketball final game was a great one to watch and observe the skills of the two teams in the final. The Suns were able to secure the championship in a close game over Two’s Enough and lay claim to this year’s championship trophy.

Early in the New Year, Justin So and Duncan Warltier represented Team Alberta in a national tournament and training camp that would decide who would represent Canada as part of the Japan Tour Team. There was also a team from Japan at this tournament and training camp.

Both wrestled and represented Rundle and Alberta very well.

Duncan was able to capture the silver medal and Team Canada alternate spot. Congratulations to Justin and Duncan.

Throughout the season, he has led the team in dedication and determination, and his recent performance at a very competitive U of A tournament shows this effort is paying off.

He continues to excel at tournaments and is getting ready to compete in the City Championships at the end of the month.

The girls debated the tough resolution “Be it resolved that factory farms be banned in Alberta” to qualify for regionals. The entire debate team is now gearing up for regionals, being held at Queen Elizabeth School on March 5.

Congratulations to the junior high wrestling team, who competed in the Paperweight tournament at the U of A on February 5. Gold medals went to Lauren Kruger and Meghan Lim, and a silver went to Jolene Wong. Special mention to great performances by team veterans Owen Vouri and Daniel Krayzel, who both wrestled in challenging weight classes.

Alexander Rutherford Scholarship This scholarship recognizes and rewards exceptional academic achievement at the senior high school level and encourages students to continue their education. Students can be awarded up to $2,500, being that a maximum of $400 is awarded in Grade 10, $800 in Grade 11 and $1,300 in Grade 12. Student must have an average of at least a 75% in five academic classes to be eligible. Applicants must be residents of Alberta who plan to enroll or are enrolled in a full time post secondary institution. The deadline is May 1, 2011.
