FALL 2021 BOYS’ VARSITY SOCCER Record: 10 – 4 - 1 Coaches: Messrs. Dyball & Kolpak Captain: Jongwon “Brian” Yun MVP: Ansel Hamlin MIP: Ewan Worrell Coaches’ Award: Charles Carruth Blue Dog Award: Noah Young Eaglebrook Tournament – Fair Play Award The Boys’ Varsity Soccer team had a productive season, despite losing a full season of competition to COVID. The rising VIth and VIIth Formers supplanted many holes on both sides of the pitch, which produced a well-balanced team; consequently, the team tallied an impressive 10-4-1 record. Coaches Kolpak and Dyball took a swim in the algae infested Spooner pond after the boys held Taft’s squad to a 3-3 tie: a season highlight. Finally, a laudatory shout out to the entire team for capturing the “coveted” Fair Play Award at the 2021 Eaglebrook Tournament–this accolade might seem insignificant, but it encapsulated the energy, spirit, and resolve of how competitive sports should be played as a Blue Dog; Bolt would have been proud of each and every one of you.

GIRLS’ VARSITY SOCCER Record: 14 – 1 - 1 Coaches: Messrs. Buono & Naclerio ’05 Captain: Radley Cherosnick MVP: Elena Cosgriff MIP: Erin Kim Coaches’ Award: Katherine Cashel & Shawn Clarke Blue Dog Award: Regina Osorio Mijangos Unsung Hero Award: Barbara Garcia-Martinez The Rumsey Girls Varsity Soccer program made its mark during the 2021-2022 season. It was evident after the first couple of practices that this group was special. The trust, chemistry, and camaraderie they built together were tantamount to their success. Each player played a pivotal role, contributing in their own unique way. Our defense worked tirelessly to neutralize the opposing team’s attacks consistently each game. Our midfield was run through Elena Cosgriff, who controlled the momentum and tempo of play on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. In the striker position, Regina Osorio found the back of the net 31 times this season in 14 games, and now holds the record for Most Goals Scored by a Rumsey Girl Varsity Soccer player in the program’s history. Our Captain and goaltender, Radley Cherosnick, was the backbone of the group. Leading the team effortlessly both on and off the field, the Team’s goal differential was +82, scoring 97 goals and allowing 15. Coaches Naclerio and Buono are proud of what the team was able to accomplish this season and know that they won’t forget the memories created during their time on this team.

VARSITY FIELD HOCKEY Record: 10 – 0 – 1 Coaches: Ms. King & Ms. DeGrazia ’09 Captains: Melanie Rundall & Caroline Traina MVP: Caroline Traina Coaches’ Award: Mana Shida Varsity Field Hockey had an incredible undefeated season of 10-0-1. The team started with a 4-0 win over Westminster, which began a season-long streak of success! The girls demonstrated teamwork, poise, and grit during our competitions. This year we had two III Form students who became consistent players on the field which added exciting depth to our squad. With few VII Formers graduating, the team is looking forward to having many years of experienced players on the Varsity Team! Let’s go Blue Dogs!

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL Record: 7 - 8 Coach: Mrs. Linley ’90 Captain: Clementina Marquez MIPs: Chelsea Altamirano & Jiaru “Alice” Xu Coaches’ Awards: Samantha Brooks & Napatsorn “Phi” Mongkhonvanit Blue Dog Awards: Morgan Brown & Hanna Gleason Grasshopper Award: Yeejune Cho Defensive Dog: Isabella Marquez 1st Place 46th Annual Rick Spooner Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team Members: Napatsorn “Phi” Mongkhonvanit & Hanna Gleason Tournament MVP: Morgan Brown The ‘21 Varsity Volleyball team enjoyed an exciting season. Due to COVID last year, our students had ample opportunities to learn and play volleyball during the Fall and Spring terms. It is weird to say that COVID actually helped our program rather than hurt it. I was excited to see these girls in action on the court and I deliberately took some time to establish positions and a rotation that highlighted individual skills, which in the end benefitted the success of the team. This team, which consisted of 11 amazing Seniors and five (5) up and coming Under Formers, was memorable. I will take the memory of these athletes and of my last season with me as I look back on a program that was extremely important to me and to Rumsey. I was proud to be called “Coach” and to see my players grow individually and together. Alice, Ana, Chelsea, Clemy, Evelyn, Hanna, Isa, Morgan, Phi, Sam and Yeejune, you all impressed me with your Senior leadership and amazing personalities that added to our team dynamic. Camryn, Elizabeth, Jenny, Madeline and Raegan have some shoes to fill and based on your improvements this fall, I am eager to follow your progress next year!

VARSITY FOOTBALL Record: 1 - 2 Coaches: Messrs. Scheidt, Linn and Craig Captains: Stanley Hayes, George Sullivan & Austin Tucker MVP: Austin Tucker MIP: Xavier Sanchez Coaches’ Award: Hirosato Tokugawa Blue Dog Awards: Charles Linz & Jose Porraz Aguirre Offensive Lineman of the Year: Tianhe “Nick” Zhang Defensive Lineman of the Year: Stanley Hayes The Peter Carriuolo ’74 Memorial Football Award: Austin Tucker This was a good season for Rumsey Football, one of the longest established teams at Rumsey. We started the season at Williston, and had a great showing at their Annual Jamboree competing against Williston, Eaglebrook, and Fessenden. Our players made us proud, and showed all they had learned. Our first game was against Taft’s IIIrds team. We started out strong, stopping them on their first possession. Now it was the offense's turn, and our first few plays from scrimmage yielded some great gains, and some highlight reel worthy runs by Austin Tucker. Unfortunately, Austin hurt his ankle and we were unable to put together enough offense without him to come out with the win. We had a great Blue/Red scrimmage for Parents’ Weekend, with both teams scoring, and a Rumsey win all around! Our next contest was against NCCS, and what a game that proved to be! We had an incredible back and forth, with both teams showing great grit and determination. We won 20-16, on a last second goal line stand with an incredible play by Stanley Hayes stuffing the opposing running back! We finished with a hard fought loss to a talented Eaglebrook opponent, a game that was even closer than the 12-6 final might make you think. Congratulations and thank you to the Seniors moving on to new fields. Thank you for all you meant to this team. You have left us in a better place, with a strong cast of returning starters and promising players from the Junior squad ready to step up and continue the proud tradition of Rumsey Football.

CROSS COUNTRY Record: 7 - 0 Coaches: Mrs. Butler, Mrs. Dyball and Ms. Kusmer Captain: Liam Kinsella MIP: Melissa Maselli Coaches’ Awards: Charlie Cosgriff & Jaidee Promphan Golden Sneaker Awards: Stella Curwin-Amfitheatrof & Jake Newman For many of our runners, this Cross Country season was their first racing season, and for others, it was their first time back on the race course since autumn 2019. In September, the coaches were surprised to see how strong the Team was; all of the runners falling within a few minutes of one another. From the very first mile time trial and 3 mile run, hopes were high for the season. As weeks went on, full of countless hill repeats, wins over IMS, games of capture the flag, Ninja, and muddy runs through the trails around campus, the Rumsey Hall Cross Country Team became a tight-knit group. Captain Liam Kinsella and Seniors Alvi Ahmed, Charlie Cosgriff, Akari Kamagaki, Richard Liu, Jacob Liu, Jake

Newman, Jaidee Promphan, Fiona Shen, and Wilson Xie, were a wonderful group to lead the Teams; for the boys, an undefeated season, and for the girls, a single loss. They dominated on their home course and proved that the success of a race truly comes from the middle of the pack, with Carter, Wilson, and Charlie earning those last few precious points that brought all of our victories over IMS. This strong, dedicated, and funny Team was a joy for the coaches to work with, and one that they will remember for years to come.

WINTER 2022 BOYS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL Record: 7 - 4 Coach: Mr. Dodge Captain: Austin Tucker MVP: Riccardo de Corato Blue Dog Award: Trevor McNamara The 2022 Blue Dog Basketball season was riddled with close wins and even closer losses. Their 7- 4 record does not reflect on how well the boys played this season. Their resilience was impressive in the midst of a pandemic. Most of the teams they played were much bigger, but that didn’t stop players like Riccardo de Corato from winning almost every jump ball, it didn’t stop Austin Tucker from attacking the lane relentlessly! And it certainly didn’t stop the rest of the team from digging out hard fought victories. This season was one of Coach Dodge’s favorites to coach as there were challenges at every corner. He will miss the Seniors leaving, but is excited to have three returners next year and he expects big things! Coach Dodge would like to thank Rico, Lord Sullivan, Splash Hessler, Alex G, X, Jack Giles, Tmac, Hiro, Tuck, Tuffy, John Loss and the best Manager in the world, Sammy. Thanks for a great season! “You don’t play against opponents; you play against the game of basketball.” —Bobby Knight

GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL Record: 8 - 3 Coach: Ms. King Captain: Radley Cherosnick MIPs: Yeejune Cho & Hanna Gleason Coach’s Award: Radley Cherosnick Blue Dog Award: Elena Cosgriff After missing last year to COVID, many girls were new to the Varsity Basketball Team. At the beginning of the season, we were hit with COVID, leaving our bench with just two subs. As we started off 0-2, losing heartbreaking games, we were determined to train even harder. The girls adopted new styles of the game by learning complex plays, aggressive zone, and man-to-man defense with traps. Fast-paced practices allowed for up tempo offenses and high-scoring games where the Blue Dogs averaged almost 31 points per contest, had a plus margin of 153 points, and outrebounded almost every opponent. We scored our most three-pointers in the last five years. The girls dominated opponents such

as Canterbury, Frederick Gunn School, and Foote to name a few. We had an eight-game win streak, and lost a hard-fought battle against our rivals IMS, who avenged a loss earlier in the season to us. The Blue Dogs fought hard to the end and never lost sight of our goals, having fun jam sessions, and picking each other up on any given day. This was a special hardworking and entertaining team that ended with a very impressive and well-earned 8-3 season. Well done, ladies!

VARSITY SKIING Record: 17 – 6 - 1 Coach: Mrs. Kappler Captain: Hyunjae “Henry” Cho MIP: Viktor Maag Coach’s Awards: Katherine Cashel & Sol Park 1st Place Berkshire Hudson Ski League After our 2021 season hiatus, the 2022 Varsity Ski Team set out to reestablish Rumsey as a skiing powerhouse in both the Berkshire Hudson League and in our Conference with IMS, WMS and Dutchess Day School. Although small in number this season, we brought a great deal of energy and talent to the mountain each day. The Team was composed of 14 talented boys and girls with skills that ranged from seasoned racers to those with strong foundational skiing skills that were new to racing. While on the mountain during both practices and races, the skiers exhibited a strong sense of sportsmanship, cooperation, and camaraderie. This helped them win gracefully against their weaker opponents like Housatonic, WMS and Dutchess, and fight hard against their strongest one-- IMS. Throughout the season, each skier improved in their own individual ways ranging from the basics like body positioning and finding their edges, to the larger team goals of reading a course and making smart decisions about how to approach a gate. Every skier played an integral role in our success this season as did their amazingly supportive families

BOYS’ VARSITY ICE HOCKEY Record: 5 – 8 – 2 – 0 - 1 Coaches: Messrs. Butler & Naclerio ’05 Captain: Jongwon “Brian” Yun Assistant Captains: Charlie Cosgriff & Jake Newman MVP: Jongwon “Brian Yun MIPs: Liam Kinsella & Ewan Worrell Coaches’ Award: Charlie Cosgriff Unsung Hero Award: Jake Newman Blue Dog Award: Gunnar Ough 2nd Place Pavek Cup Tournament Pavek Cup All-Tournament Team Members: Jongwon “Brian” Yun & Jake Newman Rumsey’s Boys’ Varsity Hockey program competed wholeheartedly this winter for the duration of the season. Nineteen determined and resilient boys gave great effort in a 16-game season with a final record of 5-8-2-0-1. With the rigorous schedule, their ability to maintain solid grades and give their commitment to Rumsey Hockey spoke volumes of each of the players. A second-place finish in the annual Pavek Cup and an outdoor showdown against IMS to end the season showed their grit and ability to respond when facing adversity. Their improvement throughout the season was notable and fun to

watch. The future for Rumsey Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey looks promising as we welcome back 10 returners. Coaches Naclerio and Coach Butler would like to congratulate the whole team on a job well done.

GIRLS’ VARSITY ICE HOCKEY Record: 9 - 1 Coaches: Mr. Kinsella & Ms. DeGrazia ’09 Captain: Melanie Rundall MVP: Mana Shida MIP: Nina von Steiger Coaches’ Award: Caroline Traina Blue Dog Award: Morgan Brown 3rd Place 7th Annual Rumsey Invitational Rumsey Invitational All-Tournament Team Members: Melanie Rundall & Mana Shida The 2021-2022 Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team enjoyed a 10-3 season overall, which included a 3rd place finish at the Rumsey Invitational in mid-February. Returning players from previous seasons provided leadership on and off the ice to a dedicated group of hardworking players that featured talented III, IV, and V Form girls new to the program. The competitive spirit of the Team was showcased in the matchups against Taft, winning the first game 2-0 in a defensive clinic, and fighting to the last second in a fast paced rematch that ended in a 0-1 loss. Throughout the season, this Team worked hard, supported one another, and had a lot of fun! We are excited for the 2022-2023 season as we welcome back a great group of returning players. We thank Chelsea, Morgan, Jami, Mel, Mana, Caroline, Nina, and Xavi for a memorable season and we wish them all the best in the years ahead.

SPRING 2022 CREW Record: 4 - 1 Coaches: Mrs. Butler & Messrs. Kinsella, Scheidt, Pastor Captains: Melanie Rundall & George Sullivan MIPs: Phoebe Kinsella & Joon Seok “Sean” Lee Coaches’ Award: Yumeng “Ally” Deng Golden Hammer Awards: Melanie Rundall & Xavier Sanchez Only a few times in an athletic career will you have a perfect team. Crew 2022 was one of those teams. Many factors had to come into play for this group to come together and win as a team. Rowers who were particularly powerful and coachable. Experienced coxswains who wanted to learn and gained confidence each day. Coaches who created an environment that promotes positivity, effort, and determination. We also just had So Much FUN - and the reward for all our hard work and effort was to WIN, WIN, WIN! The Lower Boat Championship was a crowning achievement. Winning 8 of 9 races and coming home with the oar for the first time in 9 years was special. The highlights capped off by the team rushing off the buses to ring the bell holding the oar high, many with 2 or 3 medals around their necks. To our Captains Mel and George and the rest of our Seniors Stanley, Wilson, Nick, Richard,

Morgan, Fiona, Jaidee, Jacob, and Alvi we wish you the best of luck and hope that you hold on to the memories built this season. To our under Formers, keep training and improving. We can't wait for next spring. Load the Ships and Flip the Switch!

VARSITY BASEBALL Record: 0 - 8 Coaches: Messrs. Perreault & Dyball Captain & MVP: Charlie Cosgriff MIP: Yaowei “Nick” Wang Coaches’ Award: Hiro Tokugawa With only two returning players to the Varsity Baseball team this season, this spring was a fresh start for the baseball program. The team was led this year by MVP and Captain Charlie Cosgriff. As the only returning starter on the team, Charlie anchored both the pitching staff and hit in the middle of the lineup. Under Formers Riley Geurts, Mikey Dell’Aera, Grafton Riley, Ellis O’Dwyer and Uli Linn provided spark and energy each day while gaining valuable playing experience as they look to lead next year's team to an improved record. The Senior leadership of Jack Giles, Liam Kinsella, Hiro Tokugawa, Ewan Worrell, Aidan Puri, Kyle Chun, Leo Nagasaki, and Nick Wang was critical this season as we struggled to find the win column. Their ability to keep the team upbeat, unified and focused throughout the entire season truly reflected what it means to be a Rumsey athlete and their commitment to Blue Dog baseball. They approached each practice and game with a fighting spirit and showed vast improvement over the course of the season. The future is bright for Varsity Baseball and the foundation laid by this year’s team cannot be overstated.

VARSITY SOFTBALL Record: 7 - 4 Coaches: Ms. King, Mr. Kolpak & Ms. Heath Captain: Caroline Traina MIP: Hanna Gleason Coaches’ Award: Emma Coleman Blue Dog Award: Elizabeth Ensign & Tahira Kharoti This year’s team hit the ground running earning two straight wins off the bat in epic fashion. As the girls were learning the fundamentals to throw, hit and bunt correctly we often used a pitching machine to give us an advantage over our opponents. We ran the bases effectively, stretching singles into doubles and ready to run on an overthrow. Many girls learned how to play various positions, often changing our outlook to give us the advantage over our opponents. Some key highlights were: numerous double plays each game, a triple play against IMS, perfectly placed bunts, catching line drive hits, and key hits. The girls’ Softball Team ended with a winning record having a nail biting win against Foote, big wins against IMS and Westover, and splitting against Renbrook. Way to go Blue Dogs!

BOYS’ VARSITY LACROSSE Record: 7 - 2 Coaches: Messrs. Ketchum, Naclerio ’05, & Craig Captain & Unsung Hero Award: Boden Johnson MVP: Jake Newman MIP: Garrett Rossini Coaches’ Awards: Alex Gersten & Noah Young Blue Dog Award: Lucas Kocienda After last year’s abbreviated and disappointing season, the Blue Dog Lacrosse Team was very eager to have a full slate of games this year. With a solid core of offensive and defensive players returning, we were already in a good position for success. An injection of younger players, and players new to the game made it crystal clear that we were set up for an exceptional season. As a group we gelled quickly and ran out to five wins to begin the season, with convincing wins versus Hopkins, Hamden Hall, Rectory and Taft and a grittier win against Trinity-Pawling. We were feeling pretty good about how things were shaping up and were excited to face a test in Indian Mountain on Parents’ Day. With a short bench and the best goalie we had seen all season, we fell to the Falcons for our first official loss of the season. The Blue Dogs rebounded with a modified 8 v 8 game against Hopkins and were eager to take IMS on at their field. A win was not to be, as once again their goalie played very well, and we played a bit undisciplined. We finished the year with some of our best lacrosse versus Kent, sifting 10 goals through a familiar goalie. Thank you to our Seniors, Daniel, John, Riccardo, Brian, Danny, Austin, Noah, Jake and Bode. Best of luck to you, you will be missed. Always All In!

GIRLS’ VARSITY LACROSSE Record: 6 – 5 - 1 Coaches: Mrs. Kappler & Ms. DeGrazia’09 Captains: Radley Cherosnick & Mana Shida MIP: Annabel deForest Keys Coaches’ Award: Shawn Clarke & Elena Cosgriff Blue Dog Award: Katherine Cashel

2nd Place First Annual Rumsey Lacrosse Invitational The 2022 Varsity Lacrosse season was one of the most memorable to date. We began the season with 8 returning players and we were fortunate enough to build a strong team that ranged from III Formers to Seniors. The team was composed of twenty-two talented, hardworking girls who exemplify the values of sportsmanship. While on the field during both practices and games, the girls played with a strong sense of cooperation, camaraderie and heart. This helped them win gracefully against their weaker opponents like Rectory and Loomis Chaffee. They also fought hard against their strongest opponents IMS and Canterbury. Throughout the season, each player improved in their own individual ways ranging from the basics like endurance and stick skills, to the larger team goals of communication and special play creation. We also hosted the first Rumsey Hall Girls Lacrosse Invitational--a wonderful Saturday morning filled with great competition and teamwork. Every girl played an integral role in our success this season as did their amazingly supportive families. We thank you all for being there with us throughout this fabulous season. We are heartbroken to graduate a fantastic group of Seniors: captains Radley and Mana, as well as Nina, Akari, Luly and Chelsea. We wish them all the best of luck next spring on their new teams.

VARSITY TENNIS Record: 12 - 1 Coaches: Mrs. Saxe & Mr. Laidlaw Captain: Yiran “Jami” Huang MVP: Dashiell Hessler Most Consistent Player: David Block Coaches’ Award: Wyatt Tuff Blue Dog Award: Charlie Carruth Varsity A Tennis had an incredible season finishing 12-1. Although we endured a tough loss to Berkshire School, we prevailed overall, winning against Hotchkiss JV in a close match that came down to Dash beating their #1 player in singles and Wyatt and Jami winning the final doubles match 8-6. We had other noteworthy victories against Indian Mountain, winning both matches 5-4 and beating Taft early in the season 7-2. Each person on the team vastly improved their skills and together were a true force to be reckoned with this season.
