Dear Members of the Rumsey Family,

The 2021-2022 school year was another standout year at Rumsey Hall. Undaunted by the pandemic, our students demonstrated their fortitude and talents in all aspects of school life from the arts to the athletic field to the classroom to the dorm. All of this was made possible due to the generous support of our donors. Due to your efforts, we celebrated another successful year in the Annual Fund with giving totaling $810,690 and total philanthropic giving to the school of $1,580,144. The gifts are important, but being able to live the spirit of community once again, was even more so.

As a result of the Annual Fund, we have been able to continue the outstanding level of academic preparation for tomorrow’s leaders—a foundation that has long been the hallmark of the Rumsey experience.

Specifically, despite uncertain times brought on by the pandemic, the Annual Fund has helped us maintain salaries and benefits for our talented faculty—the lifeblood of the school—and support our arts, athletic, extracurricular, and academic programs.

We appreciate you for your support of the Annual Fund, as a volunteer, and for the sacrifices you make to send your child to Rumsey. We take our role as financial stewards seriously; subsequently, ensuring our tuition is thoughtfully managed and salaries and benefits are competitive. Your gift to the Annual Fund goes a long way to making this happen.

We hope to be even more successful during the 2022-2023 campaign and hope that you will once again ring the bell for Rumsey!

The 2021-2022 academic year brought significant changes and additions to the School. Rumsey welcomed a new Head of School, Ian Craig, and a new Director of Advancement, Ben Pastor, to the Rumsey Hall family. Although the effects of COVID still impacted our normal day-to-day lives, they would not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of students, faculty and staff on our unique and beautiful campus.

Rumsey’s F2022 enrollment was strong, with 323 students attending. As we continued the recovery from the COVID pandemic, the School faced new challenges. The School’s endowment ended the year on June 30, 2022, at $29.8 million, down 9.1% from June 30, 2021. The Annual Fund raised $810,690, falling short of the $1.1 million goal. The falling stock market, inflationary economic environment and unrest on the world stage all impacted our fundraising this year.

The new fiscal year again saw strong enrollment success, with 336 students starting the school year, which includes 10 students in the first year of the School’s Pre-K program. Capital projects included a new Pre-K playground, a portable turf field for the hockey rink during the off season, and completely redone indoor and outdoor tennis courts.

Over the summer, the School completed a successful and well attended summer camp program, which had been inactive over the last two years due to the pandemic. The School’s endowment continues to be impacted by the volatile market conditions and the potential of an economic recession in 2023. Our budget is also negatively affected by the inflationary increases in energy and food costs.

Rumsey Hall is fortunate to enjoy a beautiful campus, with our dedicated faculty and staff working hard each and every day. Our trustees are fully engaged in the School’s finances, operations and strategic planning. The challenges of this past year has made the school stronger and more resilient. With the continued support of our students, parents and alumni, Rumsey’s future is bright. The Tradition of Effort, Family and Community continues in a very special way.

Thank you to all of the loyal Blue Dogs and families that supported Rumsey this year! Your generosity allowed our school to continue to thrive. As a result of your investment in our school, our students had access to the best resources to support their intellectual, physical, creative and personal development. This simply is not possible without your commitment to Rumsey.

In a financial climate that challenged many schools, Rumsey continued to move forward. Rumsey added beautiful new infrastructure, including a state of the art tennis center. Furthermore, we added a permanently endowed fund for faculty to ensure that their compensation is the best among our peer schools and to encourage their commitment to a long and distinguished tenure here.

fourth annual Giving Day campaign on May 27, 2022. The Office announced the campaign on May 12th via email and social media and encouraged constituents to make an Annual Fund gift in advance of the 27th.

Giving Day is an opportunity for everyone in the Rumsey community, across the generations, to come together and show gratitude for the people and the opportunities that make our school such an extraordinary place. Thanks to our dedicated administrators, faculty, and staff, Rumsey has maintained its commitment to ensuring an enriching learning environment where our students can grow as critical thinkers and compassionate members of a community all while modeling Rumsey’s core values of Honesty, Kindness, and Respect.

The messaging of Giving Day 2022 focused on making a donation #ForRumsey. To build on the successes of past Giving Day events, the Advancement Office set a participation goal of 125 gifts, as well as an additional goal of raising $100,000 for the Annual Fund.

As early gifts started to come in, the Advancement Office received an exciting offer from some Rumsey families by way of a Giving Day Challenge. These generous families committed to contributing $100 to the school for every person who contributed ANY AMOUNT on

Giving Day. Plus, they’d contribute $1,000 for anyone who contributed $1,000 or more, up to a total of $30,000.

Giving Day officially launched at 8 AM on May 27 and ran until midnight. It was no surprise that the Rumsey community came together in support of the school. To keep constituents engaged, we shared up-to-the-minute updates regarding our progress toward our goals on social media with photos featuring students and faculty and sent email updates throughout the day.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, Rumsey received 174 gifts and raised just over $141,000 for the 2021-22 Annual Fund, and the support we received helped the school earn the entire $30,000 offered in the Giving Challenge.

Support Rumsey Students Tomorrow

The Rumsey Hall School Heritage Society

Bequests and other forms of planned philanthropy invested in the Endowment remain a permanent part of the School’s financial foundation. A growing number of constituents in the Rumsey Family are including the School in their long-range planning to make a lasting difference.

Planned gifts to Rumsey Hall School enable you to create a legacy contribution that will have a powerful impact beyond your lifetime–securing the chance for a new generation of students to experience a Rumsey education.

Bequests or gifts may be made through your estate by including a provision in your will or living trust, or by naming Rumsey as a beneficiary of a Retirement Plan or Life Insurance Policy. The amount gifted to the School can be expressed as a dollar amount or as a percentage of the assets to be allocated. No bequest is too small. A Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) provides donors as beneficiaries of annual income payments during their lifetimes. The remaining assets will be invested in Rumsey’s Endowment in perpetuity, or for a designated restricted purpose or scholarship. A CRT is an excellent vehicle for gifts of appreciated stock or property, since the trust is tax exempt and

does not incur capital gains tax when assets are sold. Please let us know if you have included Rumsey in your estate plans.
