This piece is part of a series of small, cast bronze chairs, and was the first instance in which I combined my love of furniture making with my educational background in sculpture. The chairs were first made out of wax, allowing me to make the forms much more gestural. They were later cast in bronze using the traditional “lost wax” technique. The miniature scale and the idea that these familiar forms can be handled in a totally di erent way was intriguing, adding to their delicacy and intimacy.
